History

Established in 2012.

Comic Book Hideout originally opened in Fullerton fall of 2012 in a small strip mall, within nine months it was clear the current space was not enough as business rapidly expanded both locally and internationally. In August of 2013, The Hideout moved Downtown to a space over triple its former size. Sandwiched between two competing stores, on the very same street, business increased for The Hideout as well as awareness and popularity. Driven by diversified products and dedicated to customer service, we were ranked «Best Comic Book Store in Orange County» by The OC Weekly — 2013, The Orange County Register — 2014, and have been nominated to retain our «Best of» title for The OC Weekly for 2014 as well.

Business Owner

Born in small town Georgia and raised in Orange County, my dad taught me how to read with comics. As a family hobby we would sell at trade shows and comic conventions nearly all my life. Growing up as an outcast, being a girl, in a community of outcasts drove me to build a place where EVERYONE can come in and feel welcomed and included. I saw the need for a place for people like myself, so I designed The Hideout to be more of a clubhouse, rather than the typical «insiders only» comic book store. There is such an interesting a diverse gathering of people of all different backgrounds that can share admiration for something so seemingly simple. Comics are commonly interpreted as silly things for kids or nerds, but in actuality can hold beautiful and sincere messages about the human condition and have deep storytelling merit. I want to bring that same sincerity to the community I live in, by creating a store that really is about the love of storytelling and the people it serves.
