Why would a rambunctious, silly 8-year old boy look forward each day to going to a summer writing camp? I don’t know, but AIW has figured it out! My son loved the music and was proud of the ebook he created during the 2-week camp. He liked being with friends and making new ones. The camp had plenty of «camp-y-ness» as they seem to have found a balance between learning and play. I was impressed by the communications to parents including checkin/out email notifications, a book and music cd mailed to us ahead of time, and a daily written summaries of what they’d learned. My child wrote a postcard to me each day listing his favorite parts. He liked being able to turn them over and assemble them into a giant puzzle. Even the teachers(who are full time teachers earning extra money during their summer break) commented on how well organized the camp was and the high quality curriculum. I felt like my son was able to extend what he learned in the classroom during the last school year and focus on this most critical life skill. His writing became more compelling to read and I feel he is better prepared for next year. Every parent I spoke with agreed that it’s been a great camp and their kids loved it… and that’s not an easy bar to reach!
