Came to this location to enjoy the recent gorgeous weather with a margarita and some Mexican food out on the patio. The veggie fajitas are delightful — Giant slabs of portobello mushrooms, squash, and bell pepper, with a generous setup and tasty tortillas. Approve. Note, though, that getting both cheese and guacamole will cost you an extra dollar. Queso isn’t particularly special, but it fits the bill — can’t really go wrong with molten cheese and some pico. The salsa isn’t particularly hot, but is also quite tasty, and the chips are awesome — giant half-moons that you can break into whatever shapes and sizes you prefer. No millions of shattered bits in the bottom of these baskets. Drinks are good and strong. I highly recommend the cactus margarita if you can stomach the $ 10+ price tag. Prices are a little high, considering that it’s not local and the food is pretty standard Mexican fare(It was about $ 65 for three specialty drinks, queso, my fajitas, and a dessert), but you’re paying for the consistent quality. Ambiance is absolutely standard On The Border — kitchy Mexican decorations meet Chili’s American diner-style vibe. Not too cluttered or distracting, and the patio was nice — the tables are quite wide, which means plenty of room for food, but no holding hands across the table, just in case you’re looking for an evening of canoodling. A note for vegetarians: you have to dig a little for the veggie options, but there are quite a few choices — at other locations I’ve had the spinach/mushroom enchiladas, the taco salad without the meat(the jalapeño vinaigrette is the bomb), and the spinach/mushroom quesadillas, and all were quite tasty. I’d love to try the Portobello Border Bowl at some point. You can usually sub grilled portobellos or sauteed veggies for the meat. They’ve actually gone to the trouble to put together a menu specifically for vegetarians(Impressive, guys!), which is available on their website here:

Our family has been going to On The Border for a very long time. In fact, our college kids have to go eat at this location before returning to school. The food was excellent and loved by all(5 adults and 2 kids). We definitely will be returning.

Love this place. I’m here with family for happy hour. Love the margaritas here. My favorite is the strawberry mango margarita in the big schooner. Getting my usual, live guacamole and the ultimate fajitas. Delicious! !

My pregnant wife stood at the to-go counter for over 10 minutes near closing time while a group of employees stood at the bar near her and didn’t say or do anything.

Ordered fajitas for 2 to go. When I arrived to pick up, I waited almost 10 minutes for someone to help me(it was 4pm and empty). Was told it would be $ 36 and if I wanted an extra side, it would be an additional cost. My first question was why does the menu show a different price for Fajitas for 2? Second? why if I’m paying for 2, am I only getting 1 side? This seemed to puzzle the waitress so she proceeded to get the manager for assistance. I was told that they no longer serve fajitas for 2(even though it was on the menu right there in front of me) and that there would be an additional charge for extra«meat». I asked why it didn’t include a side and was told it was extra. I then stated if that was the case it would seem logical for me to order 2 single orders which was cheaper. After getting no where, I walked out with nothing and took my business elsewhere. Very confused that an empty restaurant could afford to be so unaccommodating.

I love On the Border, always have. Today we went to the Roanoke location, very disappointed. When I received my plate of street style mini tacos the tacos were sitting in a puddle of grease. The tortilla tore because it was soaked with grease. I told the waiter to take it back and I would just eat my side of rice, I told him I didn’t want them to remake it. So about five minutes later the manager comes over and asks me if he could please remake my plate I said no it’s OK my family is almost done eating, he precedes to tell me he wants to remake it and it will be quick so I van leave happy. I said fine. He brings my plate, the meat is still red barely cooked, and he didn’t even comp my plate, I didn’t even want the dang tacos. And he charge me for it. Not a good first impression, we won’t be back to this location.

The service was terrible. Drinks sat empty for last half of dinner and dessert. The waitress didn’t even realize she brought me nachos instead of quesadillas. The waitress also brought us dirty plates with our dessert. However, food was good, but it took a long time to get our food after ordering.

I found this location a little hard to find eventhough it faces the freeway. Anyway, our waitress was excellent and very attentive. Food was okay, but I may have not been craving Mexican food. I always have a good experience at On the Border restaurants. This place is great for large groups. If you go on your birthday they will sing for you. Fun times. I would give it try again.

I was completely shocked to see that On the Border had so many open tables at seven on a Saturday night! «What luck», I distinctly remember thinking to myself! I had a night out with the wife(and our newborn, the in laws were gracious enough to keep the older two) and there would be no wait for a table! Amazing! And then we walked in. The two hostesses told us that it would be a 15 minute wait. I went along with it for awhile. Then I started counting open tables. 15. There were 15 open tables. Then I started to REALLY look around. Other people were waiting too! Was I in the twilight zone? Did someone slip me a weed brownie maybe? Literally 4 other families waiting. Looking as confused as we were about having to wait. Some people came in and smartly took open spots at the bar. But since I was with my newborn… well you get the picture. I needed a quiet table. So after a 20 minute wait with no explanation the hostess walks outside calling my name. We sat down right next to her. She came in looking perplexed. Dear Lord help me I thought. I got up and introduced myself again and asked which of the 15 open tables I would be occupying. She rolled her eyes and took us to a booth. Other than slightly forgetful at times(no refills for my wife, or sweet and low for her tea after two requests) the waitress was passable. The food however was dreadful. Queso tasted like plastic, we ordered the high dollar fajitas and the meat tasted like a wet dog smells, the shrimp were rock hard and fishy and half of the plate was vegetables. This was an epic fail of a date night obviously. Luckily, my wife chose the restaurant. I wanted Posados.

Okay, last night we came in for a quick bite at 5:45pm. Our plans were to walk next door to the movies. As we sat there for 15 minutes without drinks, we should of taken that as a sign. Long story short… At 7:20&4 Shots of vodka later, our food comes out. I told the waiter that this was absolutely ridiculous and would like to speak with a manager. Our waiter came back apologized and comped our entire meal. But then added that the bartender was concerned by the number of shots being ordered. Well maybe you should be more concerned with why there was enough time to drink 4 shots. So the best part! We had to pay for the drinks. My wife had 4 and I had 4 shots, so they decided to charge us for 5 each. (Didn’t have time to argue) So we ended up paying $ 60 in shots, inhaling food at 7:20 to make a 7:45 movie when we arrived at 5:45 because of their shoddy service. I would stay away from here for a while. Maybe till new management is brought in.

Went there for dinner about 7:15. There was a wait for about 30 – 45 min. That’s no big deal as we were there for Hunter, a little boy who has Lukemia. 20% of the check was to go towards him to help with medical bills. There were a ton of people wearing a yellow ribbon for him, so I knew there would be a lot donated for him. About 7:40 a lot of people are coming out of the restaurant so I figured we’d get seated soon. 10 min. later we’re not seated and go in to find out how much longer.(we were waiting outside) As we walk in we see at least 5 open tables. We are then told«the manager doesn’t want to seat anyone for another hour.» The hostess stated the manager gave no reason why nobody is to be seated. We ask speak to the manager but the manager won’t come up front to talk to anyone. We were upset and at a loss for works. If you decide not to seat anyone, at least have the courtesy to let everyone that’s waiting know about this decision. I guess all the people that came out, were waiting for a table and did not get to eat. There are way too many tex-mex restaurants in the area to ever to back to this particular or any On the Border for that matter. It is unbelievable how much money the restaurant lost out on because the manager turned everyone away. Let alone all the money that poor Hunter lost out on. The manager should be ashamed of themself.

This used to be our favorite Mexican chain restaurant. We always order chicken fajitas and they were always delicious. The last few months the chicken has changed. It is like rubber. We finally quit ordering anything with chicken in it because of the low quality rubber chicken. I’m not sure but they must have changed suppliers. Chips and salsa are still good, but avoid their chicken meals.

Very nice worker! Decent food. I had the shrimp cocktail. It was very sweet. I added A LOT of more spicy chili sauce and lime juice. But still delish and filling. The beef tacos were very good. Not so much the chicken or pork.

This restaurant was actually a pleasant surprise last Friday night. I found the chips and queso that they give you prior to your drink order arriving to be a good touch as well as not a bad appetizer substitute. The entrees themselves were well-cooked and appetizing. I wound up trying a fajita entrée that was welcoming and proportioned well to the point of not walking out of the restaurant stuffed and bloated. For drinks, this is a great place for a happy hour. Unbeknownst to myself and spouse, we arrived on a day where they didn’t have it available at 9PM. That was a bummer, yet we discovered that they have happy hour from 4−7PM and a second happy hour that starts at 9PM. At least that is what our server told us. The ambiance of the restaurant is fine and very comparable to a Chili’s, maybe a TGI Friday’s. I tend to lean more toward Chili’s with this comparison. Plenty of flat screens to catch a Rangers or Cowboys game while you get good eating, and the pricing is very reasonable. With drinks, entrees and the chips and queso(charged sometimes at some Tex Mex places) + tip, you are looking at $ 40 for two people.

My wife and I went to this location for lunch today. Service was excellent but it did take a long time for the food to come out. We didn’t order anything complicated. This was convenient for us today and not our favorite place for TexMex.
