History

Established in 1992.

J’s Gourmet was founded in 1992 as a retail wine and gourmet food store offering sandwiches for take-out.

In 2003, David and Stacy Gedney joined the company when they opened Apartment 2g above the wine and sandwich shop. Shortly thereafter, they bought J’s Gourmet.

Bringing a new energy to the business, the couple scaled back in some areas to allow for more seating for lunch and an expansion of the wine cellar.

In 2006, the Gedneys opened their second restaurant Element, a bar and bistro open for dinner. By 2008, Element absorbed the lunch shift, leaving the «J’s Gourmet» name to refer to the company as a whole.

For 2010, the Gedneys will unveil their newest addition to the business: the Patio and Garden. This outdoor dining room will expand Element, both in size and setting. The patio accessible by a path through the newly planted garden. The chefs are growing their own fruits, vegetables, greens, and herbs to be used in the kitchens.

David and Stacy G.

Business Owner

Executive Chefs and Owners, David and Stacy Gedney, met at the Inn at Little Washington. David, a product of The California Culinary Academy, attributes his love of cooking to his parents: «They are consummate entertainers. I can remember my parents planning menus for dinner parties; and then making all of the food that my siblings and I could not touch!» David’s professional career spans from diners to five-star/five-diamond restaurants.

Stacy, like David, grew up in an entertaining home. Stacy’s mother had a small cake business; and Stacy had her own catering business when she was in high school, prepare bagged lunches for local business men and women. She attended The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Also like David, her training was for professional cooking, but she has gravitated toward pastry-making.
