Description

Specialties

Located just 120 steps off the Appalachian Trail, we are a great place for hikers to stay on their way north or south. For a low price, they can get a bed with fresh linens, shower, ride into town, breakfast, and much more. We enjoy having travelers by car, bicycle and motorcycle, stay with us, too. The space in the Cabbin is shared, but it is clean and cozy. The property is on the National Register of Historic Places, and the Virginia Historic Register, and we’d be happy to give you a tour.

History

Established in 2013.

We decided to buy Mountain Home as Scott was completing his southbound (SoBo) thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2012. In 2013, with help from a local contractor, we fixed up the Cabbin and opened it as the first part of the B&B in December of 2013. The Cabbin is now included among the string of places for hikers to stay along the AT from Georgia to Maine. In 2014, we began rehabilitating the main house which will open in 2018 with large, individual B&B rooms, a spacious dining room, and parlors which we plan to open up to the local community for small group meetings, book clubs, acoustical jam sessions, yoga classes, etc. Plans for the work have been approved by Virginia’s Department of Historic Resources and the National Park Service.

Meet the Business Owner

Lisa and Scott J.

Business Owner

In 2012, Scott hiked the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia, half of it with our son, Tracy. Lisa supported the hikers with shuttles to/from Katahdin, Harper’s Ferry and Springer Mountain, and parcels sent to locations along the way. It was during this time that they decided to look for a place to host future AT hikers, and found Mountain Home in the perfect location.
