You have to learn what to get and what to avoid. Stick with the salad and taco bars, the baked chicken and the steak(if you go at night). Other than that most of what they offer is sub par even by buffet standards. With the ever increasing food costs buffets will soon be limited to casinos.

I was unimpressed with my visit. The variety was quite underwhelming; maybe this location is smaller than others, but I was certainly expecting more types of food. Both the baked and fried chicken had very little actual meat. The mac and cheese tasted as though it was made with a cheese product not unlike Velveeta(gross!). The pizza left much to be desired, and the BBQ ribs were overly drenched in a sub par sauce. I was surprised to see chicken pot pies and those weren’t bad-the crust was nice and flaky. The snickerdoodle cookies were delicious. The waitress was quick to clear our plates, and I enjoyed having the option of getting new silverware whenever I wanted. I was disappointed that we had to pay dinner price at 1:30 on a Sunday. We obviously could have turned around and left after learning this, but I was starving and not expecting that I would leave as disappointed as I was, considering the price. I won’t be returning here. If I want a good buffet in the area, I’ll be heading a bit south to Teppanyaki.

I was a HUGE ocb fan as a child, and was excited to visit upon receiving coupons in the mail. The food was as I remember it, pretty bland and not too exciting. They did, however, improve much on their steak for their current steak campaign/promotion. Although not a fan of my steak being rare(and wondering why they didn’t chose to do medium to meet people half-way) if was still tasty for the price. The best part of this restaurant is, and has always been, their desserts. I think I ate 3 – 4 regular meal items and 3 desserts. Yum! Plus I must applaud the employees. Everyone I encountered was extremely friendly, which can be hard to find at a place where they do not work for tips. I was pleasantly surprised.

I was really excited to visit Fridley, mainly because the radio plays a song about the town. When I got to this restaurant I saw Fridley in a whole new light. Rather than being filled with trashy trailer park folks, as depicted in the lyrics, Old Country Buffet showed me the joys of a family gathering around a delicious morning meal. My friend’s family meet here every Saturday for breakfast/brunch, where the group takes up over two rows of tables. Apparently, his family is not the only family that does that. I’ve never had breakfast buffet before, so this was just fantastic for me. Unlimited pancakes, hash browns, and eggs? My oh my! I just stepped out of the cold and into heaven. If you strategically plan and go around 10 and stay until noon, you can top off your breakfast meal with the lunch desserts. Mmm!
