A Place To Play

We played here with our one and three year old. Very classy and modern play place. The owner was as nice as can be. I highly recommend.

This place is a Friday Harbor gem for anyone who has children 10 and under. The island is amazing for outdoor discovery or play, but on a down day, rainy day, or waiting for a ferry A Place to Play is the perfect spot for some low key clean and educational play. The owner is super friendly and interactive with the kids and the best part is how clean it is. Even my 9 year old has a great time there.

This play space is the best one I’ve ever been to. It is small, but there is an incredible variety of things to do. One hour with my toddler flew by. What really impressed me the most was that the play space did not just have a pretend kitchen, boat, etc. What set it apart was that the shelves/​oven/​fridge were stocked with pretend toys and the boat came equipped with life jackets/​dinghy/​fishing poles… As a result, the kids spent far more time on these structures than they do when they just have to pretend to be holding a fishing pole or stirring a pot. I can’t wait to go back and wish the owner would open more of these spaces around Seattle!

We love this place. My 4 and 1 year olds had a blast. Friendly owner, clean, and lots of fun toys. Great way to get the wiggles out!

Can you please expand to Tacoma wa? This place was our saving grace on our weekend getaway to Friday harbor. This was our first vacation with our 14 month old and we discovered just how challenging that can be. Then we entered a place to play. He loved it. There was more than enough to keep him occupied and wore him out enough to actually sleep, something he hates to do when excited. On the day of our departure we had an hour or so to wait for the ferry and we were hungry. We attempted to eat a restaurant but the little man was not agreeable to that. So we got our food to go and took it to the place to play. The owner even kept on eye on the little man so we could eat while he wanted to go up and down the stairs repeatedly. She cares so much for the kids and understands how difficult travel can be for them. Her heart is definitely in her business. We would totally recommend this place for anyone traveling with children.

super friendly owner who kept the place orderly and clean, great variety of toys and areas to play with and in. so glad we unexpectedly found this place during our one day visiting the san juan island. it may have been our 2.5 and 4.5 year olds’ favorite part of our trip :-)

Wonderful place to play. We stopped in for 1 hour while our two year old played with trains diggers sand and water (there was a big space with great toys for kids of all ages to enjoy) he loved it and it made the rest of our time sitting at dinner enjoyable for us since he got the wiggles out of his system. Highly recommend

What a great spot to let the kiddos play after a long (to them) ferry ride! The equipment is in wonderful condition, everything clean, and the proprietor was warm, kind, and enthusiastic. Definitely worth the dosh to put a smile on your kiddos face!

We didn’t plan on stopping in, but walked by and the kids were very excited. I was really surprised by how much there was for the kids to do. Great variety for a large age range, super clean and organized, and friendly staff. Well done!

This place is amazing! It’s immaculately clean, no broken toys, and fun for hours! My son (3) had so, so much fun playing in the mini house, with the train table, and the water table. This is such a great place. The staff was SO friendly and helpful! This has to be my favorite little play place ever. They also have parents’ night out events where they’ll babysit for 3 hours on Saturday nights! This is a MUST visit!

We found A Place To Play by chance as we had gotten in line for the ferry a bit early because we wanted to get an ice cream and some lunch. We were then left with 2 extra hours to kill on a hot day, so sitting in the car with 2 almost 4-​year olds was out of the question.
We had a blast! The owner Catherine is so sweet and kind. She was a teacher in her past life and is great with kids. She interacted with our girls and they loved playing with her. We also loved having a great conversation with her about Friday Harbor, the island life, kids and her business.
She has done such an exceptional job with this wonderful place and there are so many well-​thoughtout details that have gone into each play space. From house with the full kitchen, every kitchen accessory you could imagine, a dining table and hand-​sewn curtains on the windows to the local artisan built boat with foam water, lifejackets, fishing rods, crabbing cages. Then there is the horse corral with stuffed horses you can actually ride! A feeding troth to tie them to, apples to feed them and grooming tools. The water tables, the sand boxes, the giant doll house, the wall mounted build-​a-​run, Legos (which kept even the husband occupied), the custom kid-​sized 1950’s diner where you are welcome to BRING YOUR OWN FOOD! Just too much to see and do. My girls were so entertained and it was so nice to have hours free from any winning, crying, tugging or general boredom.
Like I said, we found this place out out necessity, but we will be coming back just to play here. A day trip for the walk-​on ferry will be a more common occurrence just to come play and enjoy Friday Harbor for the day. Everyone needs to come play here and support this fantastic place!

We are children’s museum veterans and have been to many of the children’s museums and indoor play places in NW Washington; this is one of the best designs I’ve seen, especially for a smaller space. There’s just the right amount of «stuff» and the stations are well done with great flow that lets kids really use their imaginations and get a huge amount out of their play time. We’ve been here twice on vacation and both times got day passes. It’s nice because we could leave for lunch and come back. Our kids (3 & 5) can play there all day and still not want to leave when they close. Also, it’s right in the middle of town so my husband and I could take turns supervising the kiddos while the other went shopping. Which was great because we both got to do what we wanted to do and didn’t have to drag the kids into stores.
If you have young kids this is a can’t miss!

This is THE place to play! I have never been to or seen a child’s play area so thematically thought out, the attention to detail and of young children’s ability and what they would find fun masterful! There are distinct areas of play: a water table, a fun sand molding table, train table, a doll house, a miniature kitchen equipped with all the fixings, a baby area semi separate in an alcove with soft carpet and toys and games for children’s ability level, a Lego area, a water & boat area and last but not least a horse pasture ! This is truly a diamond in the rough!

We stumbled across this place and are so happy we did. We were visiting from Seattle and walked by this place. It is right downtown only a block away from the ferry. We decided to check it out to let our two kids burn some energy. This place is clean, well set up, and a great place to spend time with the kids. The owner of this establishment knows what she is doing. I was most impressed with her interaction and play with the kids.

We have visited here with our children several times now and have had a fantastic experience every time. The owner and staff are friendly and love to interact with the families. All of the toys and activities are kept clean and well maintained. There is lots to do for toddlers as well as a little bit older kids. This place is an absolute life saver when you are waiting for the ferry. They are going to be offering date night childcare soon and we will be back to take advantage of that for sure!

What a fantastic addition to Friday Harbor! Spotlessly clean, educational, and a friendly staff that loves to play. As I write this, Becky is playing phones with my son. $ 7.50 for an hour, $ 15.00 for an all day pass. In an area that focuses on restaurants, whale watches and tourist trap shopping, this is truly a welcome sight for those of us with an under-​5 in tow. Close proximity to the ferry, so you can get your place in line, then walk over so the kidlet can work off some energy.

Beautifully thought out, immaculate, creative place to spend a stimulating afternoon with your child! I brought my 16 month old twins here numerous times while vacationing on the island. We all absolutely loved it! The owner clearly spent a great deal of time developing a safe place full of imagination with good materials and high quality toys. The open, welcoming environment provides endless delights for your child, they wont know where to play first! There is also coffee for mom and dad and a nice little café setting with high chairs to feed kids lunch. Staff is welcoming and always willing to jump in and help with the kids. Best suited for age range 1 – 6.

Amazing place! My daughters age 4 and 5 had a blast from fishing in the pretend boat, playing Legos, and much more. My 12 year old brother also enjoyed the many things to do there. We stayed for 2 hours in a.m. and came back in the afternoon for more fun. Staff was helpful and very nice.
