Big thanks to all the staff at Veterinary Emergency Service for the awesome care you have given my dog during her emergency c-​section and bringing out all 7 puppies healthy.

We had a stray dog that was hit by a car we were rescuing, the dog was in pain with his leg dangling and broken.
The assistant a unfeeling rude gal (I would like to call her something else) checked his gums (guess when in doubt check gums for shock and thats all because you are an idiiot)
She did not want to seem to get the Dr. She said the Dr could not see us if we did not have a regular vet for this dog.
We explained the situation to her again and it was like talking to a brick wall.

If that is’ not your policy’ apparently your receptionist did not know it. I did vet assisting in the bay area and was appalled as to how we were treated.
We did go on to have dog treated with surgery to the tune of $ 1700 which went to a clinic that had its act together the first time around.
Thanks for the ‘damage control ’ though.
Edit-11−2015 I had to repost this because it was reported because I said where I went instead. Business that report LEGIT reviews, even though they are negtative are not insterested in the customer or your pet or freedom of speech. Why don’t you try and fixing the issues first instead of trying to cover up?

My cat, Digit, was 14 years old and on a Saturday night went down hill very quickly. I did want her to suffer, so we took her to VES. They were very kind and patient with me and my cat. They let me take my time to say goodbye and the lady was so sweet about making sure I had enough time. Today, I received a card from them with my cats paw prints. I am truly touched. They are a class act in my opinion. I hope no one has to go under similar circumstances, however, if I had to again, I would definitely see them. Thank you VES for taking care of my girl.

If I could give it 0 stars I would. I brought my septic German shepherd here in hopes of trying to save him. The woman at the front desk asked me to wait, even though no one was standing there. The waiting room was full with three other animals and their owners who were waiting to be seen. I explained the severity of the situation to the lady and she said she the clinic was busy with more serious cases and that they would get to me when they could. A girl with her dog who had been waiting awhile stood up and interrupted us and asked how much longer they would need to wait and she couldn’t give them a set amount of time. The receptionist then ignored me while she had a conversation about how their dog sounded like it was having a reverse sneeze. After 10 minutes of waiting in agony as my dog lay in the back of my SUV because it could not move, I interrupt them and ask whether my dog will be helped out of the car and see the dr. The woman repeated again that there were dogs with serious conditions being treated and that I needed to wait. While standing in front of her, I got on my cell phone and called the
Fresno Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center on blackstone just north of Sierra and asked if they had a wait. The receptionist on the phone was kind and said they would prep a room and have a stretcher waiting for us. I took my paperwork, got back in the car and drove to the other emergency vet center where I was treated with respect and given immediate attention, something they did not provide here. While I ended up losing my best friend that day, at least he was given the attention and treatment he deserved.
I will never know whether Veterinary Emergency Service could have saved my dog by seeing him sooner or whether it would not have made any difference. What I do know is that I was not treated with respect or shown any true compassion here.
I would recommend that you don’t take your pets here if you have a choice. I highly recommend Fresno Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center; their waiting room was much cleaner and the staff was extremely attentive and understanding. The Fresno vet specialty center also has snacks and water for owners while their dogs are having treatments done. Read their reviews, they speak for themselves.
I also want to note that my previous review which said «Long wait. Ended up taking my dog to Fresno Veterinary specialty and emergency where they saw him right away.» Was removed because it supposedly did not have enough detail. They probably did not like my bad review and tried to have it removed.

I took my dog here last night and I was so pleased with the service they provided. My dog is like my child and I would do anything for her and the service they gave to us was incredible. They took her back right away, were compassionate, listened to what we had to say and the doctor came in and talked to us within minutes after examining our dog. They went over everything that was going on and were very thorough. The doctor even called us later that night to make sure she was doing ok.

We had to take our Zoey in she got sick. The service and compassion she received was second to none. They treated our dog as if it was their own. Very knowledgable, affordable, and fast. I highly recommend this service! Thanks for the great care!

My black lab had an intestinal obstruction and was vomiting for a few days. I took him to VES for a diagnostic and the staff at 2 in the morning was surprisingly friendly. They conducted initial X-​rays and bloodwork and gave my dog some antiemetic and fluids until the next day when I was scheduled for an ultrasound. They arranged for the ultrasound to be conducted at their hospital so I didn’t have to go to a different place. They located the obstruction, gave me an estimate for the cost of the surgery (about $ 5900 all told) and went straight into surgery. He did great and is now a happy dog again. I’m sure I paid way too much for this but I didn’t want to risk his health any longer just to find another surgeon. The doctors and techs here are great. They are sympathetic, genuine, and explain policies and procedures well. I felt safe leaving my dog was with them for almost two days as he recovered.

Ok 1^st off I understand that the emergency vet is super busy but I feel some things need to be addressed.
The front gal Lacey was a little insensitive towards a client. While we were waiting she was talking to a gentleman who brought his sick kitty in and spoke about the potential cost in the lobby being extremely high and he said he can only afford around 200 $ and she said well we can stick you in a room and talk about euthanizing. That should be a private conversation. On another note, she knows priority cases and she usually has a great personality and good customer service.
My main issue with this place is… While she was away from the front desk a younger girl tech with glasses and another tech with curly hair were taking information on two separate cases and two men walked in carrying a dog who got hit by a car. They made them wait at the door while they slowly got a leash and had them wait in the lobby while they finished talking to the other clients (one puppy who was vomiting and the kitty owner). The dog was bleeding (mostly from its foot) and crying and didn’t get taken back until Lacey came back to the front and asked what was wrong. Anyone who sits up front needs to be educated on priority cases along with customer sensitivity. When someone is clearly upset about their pet a little friendliness and consideration can go a long way.

Thank you VES for helping me save my puppy! The staff was wonderful, they kept me informed every step of the way, comforting when I sat and held my sick baby and very helpful when I decided to bring him home. Thanks to their help I have a happy healthy dog!

The only thing this place cares about is getting paid. They act like they care about your pet but they don’t! I took my 7 week old Puppy in for what seemed like parvo. They tested her for parvo and it came back negative but still wanted to do a bunch of other nonsense. The unofficial diagnosis was «probably some type of bacterial infection». They wanted to keep her overnight and give her an IV for fluids and antibiotics so I agreed. The doctor said the nurse would bring me an estimate. $ 942!!! If my dog doesn’t have parvo and probably just are something bad. Please explain to me WHY it’s coating almost $ 1000. I told them there is no way I’m paying $ 1000 and they asked me how much I was willing to pay and I said between 200 – 300 and they bring an estimate back for 256 $… Hmm that’s really funny that it was originally $ 942 but now it’s $ 256 for the same thing except I’m giving her the meds at home? What if I said I only wanted to pay $ 100. Would they give me a bill for $ 100? Terrible!!! The exam fee and everything ended up costing me about $ 310 and I was there for about an hour. The antibiotics they gave me were supposed to last for 7 days but they are gone today and it’s only been 4 days. I called and they doctor said I can come back and get another prescription but of course there would be a charge. Or I can wait til we go to her regular vet and see if she needs more. Wtf?! I paid for what? Worst place ever. Please do yourself a favor and don’t bother with this place. There are other details that I don’t have time to write but really just take the advice from me!

We have been here several times over the last 20 years or so. when you have to go any ER, it’s an emotional experience and it’s expensive wherever you go.
last time, it was 11pm. dog was down, very ill. I walked in carrying it. as I got to the counter, the girl took her from me immediately and took her to the back, got symptoms, relayed to back.
then we did name and info. that’s good service.
I’ve been there at 3am with another dog, seen immediately, the dog didn’t make it. everyone was very nice and showed compassion.
I think any bad reviews came from people still hurting from pet loss or not understanding procedures. that’s sad too.
now, there are other Pet ER’s in town but I will always use this place. top service, very happy, good people.

I am sorry that zero stars is not an option. I will start by saying that I do not recommend this place, especially if the pet has a severe disease. Our dog was admitted in this facility with a severe condition and our regular vet referred us to this place.
The personnel was friendly, yet we were not able to feel that their compassion was real. We were not able to get a straight diagnosis or prognosis for our dog. We had to pay over $ 1000 upfront as an estimate for the first 24 hours of treatment. The assistants called us periodically mainly to inform us how much we have to pay for the treatment and less for, oh! by the way, what is the dog’s evolution under treatment.
The dog was treated for three days, mainly getting IV and he rapidly deteriorated. When visiting him trying to understand when his chance are we get no straight answers. Even more the doctors tried to convince us to continue all treatments, pushing more test and treatments that, at best, were an experiment.
Bottom line we had to let our dog go peacefully. To make things even worth, they were not even able to fill in insurance paper in a proper way and took several trips back to the clinic and 30 days to have the forms corrected.
I cannot stress enough how much I DO NOT recommend this place.

They stock Rattlesnake antivenin. This is my go-​to Emergency Vet. for 14 years.
All Staff are caring people, and I never had a bad experience with their care.
The place can be very busy on Holidays/​weekends, and they triage the animals. That is the most severe cases are seen first, in order of urgency, not first come first served.
Wish they were located in North Fresno, but otherwise worth the drive from Oakhurst.

My cat was shot in the eye with a pellet gun and had to have the eye removed. I love her so much and was a complete mess. The doctor (Dr. Carrie) was incredible and sensitive to my concerns. The whole staff was beyond amazing. They’re very comforting, professional and made the experience easier on my cat and myself. She’s now home in my lap purring loudly. I definitely recommend this hospital. I can’t express how great they are.

Our poor dog, Sam, got heat exhaustion which resulted in him developing an ulcer and vomiting blood. My husband rushed him in and they got to work on him right away while he started paperwork.
I felt like all the treatments and tests they used were necessary and not just «tacked on» to make a buck. They ran a test so not to give an unnecessary and costly blood transfusion (which he didn’t need and saved us the money) but did not feel the need to run an endoscopy (saving us 600 – 800 dollars) because he was responding to the ulcer treatment and confirming her diagnosis. The staff was caring and thorough in their instructions to us when he was ready to come home. Dr. Nagle is a WONDERFUL vet whose love for animals is very apparent.
Yes, it cost us a lot, but it was quality emergency care and worth every penny.

We stop here for an emergency in our way to LA, our Little puppy got himself hurt in the car, we were help at 11pm, and the doctor was so friendly and nice to our little boy, after helping us we left at ease and sure our puppy was going to be fine. They were very reasuring, professional an helpfull.

I took my dog in to be treated for an oopsy and waited, and waited. After one hour of waiting they recommended questionable treatments not related to the injury. Predatory estimates, uncaring, and insensitive personnel. There were other pet owners who shared their outrageous cost of care estimates the same night we were there. They DO NOT seem to love what they practice. They are more interested in money.

Took my puppy here last night (10:00 PM) due to her relentlessly whining and me not being able to comfort her. I noticed that she had not had a bowel movement all day (which is irregular for her) and feared that she may have a bowel obstruction or be suffering from constipation. There was also a small pimple like bump forming on the outer lower lid of her right eye, which she gets pretty regularly.
We were greated right away, entered into the computer system, and put into a room. The gentleman also informed us beforehand that there would be a fee assessed for being seen by the doctor, which was reasonable. The room was very clean and neat. Dr. Nagle came in and saw my puppy who was a little scared. I explained to the doctor the reasons that I had brought my puppy in, and she took her to the back. The doctor. came back with copies of the condition that my puppy is thought to have, as her eyelashes grow out of the opening of glands on the inner rim of the eyelid. She told me my treatment options, and did inform me of the price differences. She also let me see exactly what she saw magnified on my puppy’s eye. I’ve never had a doctor so informative! Heck, my own doctor isn’t even that informative. My dog was also seen for the bowel issue, and there were no obstructions found, but they did clean her anal glands.
After being seen, we were given the bill for the examination and medication costs. I was ready to pay upwards of $ 300, as generally that’s how much I pay out for treatment when she sees her primary veterinarian. I was surprised that with 3 medications (steroids, antibiotics, and a deworming treatment), and the examination cost, I paid less than $ 150. Can we say «savings?!» Great establishment!

I have heard good things about this vet from a friend. Very late on Thursday night, I had a very very sick rat. I could tell he was extremely dehydrated and needed fluids immediately. I knew he wasn’t going to make it through the night otherwise (prey animals are notorious for hiding illness and injury).
I called the emergency vet who treats exotic animals, and they informed me that the vet was going into surgery and I’d have to wait (?). So they gave me the number for VES. When I called, they said they don’t usually treat exotics but the vet working that night would try to help.
I rushed my rattie in and Dr. Williams was working that night. He informed me that he certainly wasn’t a rat expert but had treated several and would do what he could. He was very caring, and very honest, not trying to tack on unnecessary tests and procedures.
They gave my rat fluids and everyone working, including the tech, were all so nice and caring. Most people wouldn’t think twice about helping a rat, but they didn’t make me feel inferior or anything. Also, my bill was very reasonable.
Needless to say, I took my rat to his regular vet in the morning and he’s doing much better. It’s really hard to find vets who are honest, and I was very, very pleased. Hopefully I won’t need to come back anytime soon, but I will use them again.
