Geekwise Academy

I was working in retail before taking classes at Geekwise. The skills that I learned in the subsequent 2 courses gave me an opportunity to start accepting contracts through one of the businesses in the building. I cannot stress how amazing this experience has been. Getting a job in the industry is difficult if you have no prior work experience. With the knowledge that I’ve gained I feel like I’m finally doing a job that fulfills me. Now after 4 months into my contract I’m doing work that is more difficult than the stuff my friends are doing with a bachelors in computer science.
If your interested in the tech industry, there is no better place to be.

I’ve taken 5 courses at Geekwise Academy, and each class has lived up to the «No Fluff» motto. After the very first class in Bootcamp1 (HTML and CSS), I realized that I would need to condition myself to study in between classes as if I was attending a University Summer session class. I was one of the first students to be invited to participate in the «By Invitation Only, Bridge Class». Where each student was given a partner and worked on a real world project, and was paid to take the class.
I started taking classes in Fall of 2013, was hired the same night that I finished Bootcamp 1, and now have full-​time freelance employment. Not to brag (although I am good at it), but I currently do testing and web development for a software development company, customize WordPress themes for a marketing company, and build websites. Plus study in my spare time for which ever class I am currently enrolled in.
I LOVE what I do and where I work, and I never hesitate to tell anyone about Geekwise Academy.

I initially entered into Geekwise Academy with some skepticism about the possibilities of gaining real world technical expertise in such a short time with such a small investment.
My skepticism was quickly allayed as I found the instructors to be incredibly knowledgable, helpful, and full of enthusiasm for the topics they were teaching. I will say that the promise of no fluff is not a joke, and the material in the advanced classes moves very quickly, but you will learn an incredible amount if you can hang in there.
Geekwise Academy’s allure of getting fast placement in the tech industry, though seeming far fetched initially, was no joke. I was placed in an amazing job within 6 months of enrolling, and before even completing my final course. It’s been an incredible experience for me and I highly recommend this path for anyone looking for a fast paced, exciting learning environment.

To me, Geekwise Academy is a place for those who are not satisfied with online tutorials and want hands-​on work accompanied by possible connections with local businesses. Regarding skill level, anyone from the beginner — experienced has something they can learn.
Can’t wait to see this grow into an ecosystem of IT workers!

The people at Geekwise are are really nice people who truly know what they are doing.
The major problem is that the two instructors that I had were both not very good communicators… AT ALL.
They are kind of your stereotypical IT people who can do amazing things but can’t clearly explain what they did.
Much of the time is spent with the instructor trying to figure something out on the fly which would be okay if they clearly explained what they were doing but they go into «Code Mode» and are in their own world while the class.
Geekwise is still in its infancy and has really great possibilities but as of now, they really need the instructors to go to classes on how to instruct.
I learned some stuff and the price is cheap so I am glad I went but I know it could be so much better of they got some dynamic instructors.
