History
Established in 1978.
First opened in Clovis as a general bookstore with a small LDS product selection that followed the Western theme of Clovis. A move to Fresno was welcome news to Fresno residents but still just a short drive from Clovis. Twenty three years ago, competition from Costco and Target propelled the store to forgo offering «general market» products and focus on LDS product and services. That move caused rapid growth and the need to move into larger and larger quarters. Finally in 1999 in preparation for the opening of the Fresno Temple, the enterprise relocated to the current super-store near Fashion Fair Mall and Fresno State University campus.
Meet the Business Owner
Louise and Leon H.
Business Owner
The owners have grown the once small store into a thriving full-service enterprise. Adding several innovations has given the business a nationwide reach. Many similar stores have closed their doors with the troubles of the national economy over the last decade. Far West Books has reached out to the communities that have lost their «local» store to successfully serve their needs.
