Bishop University was conceived in the heart of the man it is named after, Bishop Henry L. Johnson. Bishop Henry L. Johnson, a graduate of Aenon Bible College and founder of Bethesda Apostolic Church had a passion for education and ensuring that the next generation was prepared for ministry. In 1967 he started the West Region Bible College but merge it with Aenon after 5 years. He made his desire for an educational institute known to his predecessor Tobaise Brookins, who began the work of founding the Bishop University. Bishop Henry L. Johnson passed July, 2, 2012, but his vision lives today.

Tobaise Brookins is the Senior Pastor of the Bethesda Churches. He has over 19 years of secular education experience as a teacher, lead teacher and administrator. He has over 20 years experience in ministry as an evangelist, life coach, church consultant, and pastor. He is highly gifted in the preparation of believers to be soul winners and become more spiritual in their relationship with God.
