We rented A Big Log Cabin in the Clouds for a long weekend. It advertised as 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a gourmet kitchen and a killer view. POSITIVES: 1. An amazing view of rolling hills, on a huge farm property. We saw cows, tons of hummingbirds, and lots of rabbits. 2. Plenty of space for 2 couples — 2 bedrooms(1 giant, 1 medium) and 2 bathrooms. We picked it because both bedrooms looked lovely and spacious, so no one would get the short end of the stick. We weren’t disappointed! The large upstairs bedroom actually included 2 futon sofas, so there was plenty of room for extra people. 3. A hot tub overlooking the lovely property. The hot tub is in top notch condition, and very clean. 4. No bugs inside!!! I was worried about staying in a log cabin(advertised as really, really old!!), but the cabin has been moved from its original location on the Ohio River, and the owners did a great job bug-proofing the cabin when they«re-built» it. I didn’t see a single one! 5. The entire place was spotless — from the bed linens to the towels, from the bathrooms to the kitchen. Very clean. 6. The silence is amazing — the view of the stars is amazing — it is a great respite from a busy world. 7. Overall, it was comfortable and lovely. The owners have done a great job at making sure everything you need is already at the cabin(trash bags, charcoal grill, towels, etc etc), and we brought everything else(food, drinks, charcoal, swim suits!). Carl, the owner, is super helpful and very friendly. NEUTRALS /FYI: 1. Be prepared for a bumpy drive to the cabin. It shares a property with the owner’s home(a lovely bed and breakfast) and the Big Log Cabin is down a long, bumpy gravel road. Our 2WD, light-SUV had a tough time making it up one of the hills until we mastered the amount of force/speed necessary. I wouldn’t recommend making the drive in a car, and especially not in snowy or icy weather. 2. There isn’t much counter space in the bathrooms — as in, almost none. There are, however, tons of hooks. I brought a hanging toiletry bag, and congratulated myself on my foresight all weekend. 3. The floors are squeaky. When people are walking around in the top floor bedroom, it literally sounds like they are walking directly next to your bed. There isn’t a lot of sound privacy between the bedrooms. 4. The fridge is turned off between guests to conserve electricity, and it took a good 24 hours for ours to cool down sufficiently(probably because it was so insanely hot outside). We ended up not feeling comfortable eating some of the perishables we brought with us(sausage, etc) due to the warm fridge. I’d suggest asking the owners to turn it on a bit earlier than usual if you are visiting in the summer. 5. «The Rules» — when you arrive, Carl sits you down and has everyone sign a page of rules for the cabin. We understood that it is a beautiful old cabin, and sadly, not everyone will be respectful of others’ property. But the rules are in-depth, and you better not break them! :-) 6. The owners tell you«no TV reception» and they mean it — NOTVRECEPTION. Us ladies weren’t surprised(… because we read the website), but the men were in a little bit of shock when they realized that they couldn’t watch football. If you want to relax with the TV, bring DVDs. We also utilized their expansive CD collection, and enjoyed the music quite a bit. I think all 4 of us would recommend A Big Log Cabin in the Clouds. We had an absolutely great weekend.
