Went to Tacklebox on Father’s Day, and was quite surprised by the service I got. My family and I went to eat dinner here, and it took a while just for is to get our drinks. So when it came time to order, my initial family ordered first, then the rest. Well, not only did the order take more than an hour and a half, but everyone except my initial family was served before us. My aunt confronted our«waitress» about our meals, and well, she low key tried to cover the fact that she never put our orders in by saying,” It’s being cooked now.” Like really? It takes an hour and a half just to START the food. Now I am giving two stars because every other time we go, we have great service, yes the wait is usually long but not this long. Recommend it if it is not packed.

We were just passing through, spending one night in a local Fremont, Ohio hotel, and looked up local restaurants on Unilocal.Based on the good reviews, and fish sounding like a good choice for dinner, we chose Tackle Box 2. We punched the address into Google Maps, and followed the Google lady’s directions. In the dark, we drove past the entrance. We saw the sign, but no restaurant. We turned around and saw a steep driveway going down beside the sign and decided to chance it. Even at the bottom of the hill I wasn’t sure we were in the right place, because it led to an old warehouse-looking place. It wasn’t until we turned around and saw the neon lights that we found the restaurant. I’m glad we did. We had the perch sandwich, fries, clam strips, butterfly shrimp, and salad. The servings were all quite large, and everything was delicious. The salad, even though ordered as a side in place of cole slaw and fries, was more like a meal itself, with lots of lettuce, some cheese, tomatoes, bacon bits, and a whole hard-boiled egg. We had the place practically to ourselves. It was a Wednesday night in late October. The waitress was very friendly; she told us it gets very busy there on the weekends. The TV was on a news channel, but not overly loud. The décor was charming and the overall atmosphere was comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place and would return if I ever pass through Fremont again.

Visited Tackle Box for the very first time last Friday evening(10÷09÷15) with my Dad, Stepmom, and another couple. Ironically, I received a fantastic report on Tackle Box from a person I met at an event in the Atlanta, GA area! I was told the perch dinner was amazing and the price was just as amazing for all the food you were served. Great job Tackle Box staff!!! Needless to say, I was looking forward to the experience. When you first pull up, it doesn’t look like too much at all, that is if you don’t drive by because it sits back off the road and down a small incline. Interior is done in a tasteful eclectic motif that will keep your eyes busy the entire time you are there. Friday night special is perch and you can get a half pound or 1 pound dinner plate. Perch dinner plate is usually served over a bed of fries and a side of coleslaw. I opted to get a side salad instead of the fries for a slight up charge(I think it was $ 2.50). I had an iced tea. Including the drink and up charge for the salad, my total bill for the 1 pound perch dinner was just over $ 20. If you decide to pay by credit card, the server has a hand held scanner and takes care of it right at the table. We arrived a bit early for dinner and by the time we finished eating the dining area was filled. Monday night special = frog legs, can’t wait to give them a try! I will definitely be making a return visit to Tackle Box in Fremont, OH…

Cute, funky décor. Good, friendly, quick service. Perch sandwiches were great – fresh, lightly fried, very tasty. Also had a cup of their chili, which was hearty and not too heavy or over-spiced. Great little local spot!

We looked up this local secret on Unilocal.Imagine our surprise driving down the hill thinking we were being sent in the wrong direction from our GPS. So glad we kept going and had lunch there. The sampler platter(appetizer) was large and filled with all of my favorites. Clams, shrimp, breaded mushrooms, mozzarella sticks, onion rings with all the dipping sauces we love! Perch was fantastic and they are very generous in their portions. Our waitress was friendly and seemed to know many of her customers. Good service even though she was there only one working! Would go back for sure

My only problem with Tackle Box was our service. Our server wasn’t very attentive the entire meal. When our meal was brought out initially, by another server, it wasn’t what we ordered. She told us that we would be billed for it anyway and then brought out what we wanted. We had to ask for drink refills numerous times finally getting one after we finished eating. When our bill came out, sure enough we were billed for the dinner we didn’t order in addition to what we did order. After bringing this to her attention She brought us a refund in cash for the listed price excluding the tax charged. Double check your bill!!! Other than the service, the food was good and we enjoyed the patio.

This place is exceptional. Stopped her after a meeting based on the Unilocal reviews. The fried perch dinner with fries and cole slaw far exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend it if you’re anywhere near Fremont at meal time. Service was friendly and quick as well.

What can you say about the Tackle Box that hasn’t already been said? Love walleye and perch? Perfect. Looking for a cold beer and a friendly face(what’s up Jerry?!) to serve it to you? Go on, friend. Do you like Jimmy Buffet? You probably know this place already. If you don’t like fried food, you just shouldn’t come here. Tackle Box would win the ‘Kitsch-iest but Completely Awesome and Most Fun Restaurant in Fremont’ award!(Side note: Tackle Box should not be confused with Hasselbach’s.)

I was in the area for work and was passing through during lunch. It’s by a river and has a «dive bar» feel. The food was good and a fair price. I was the only one in there at 11:30am, but they were extremely friendly and made sure everything was satisfactory. Men– be sure to read the sign above the urinal when you go there. You’re welcome for the laugh.

Great perch dinners with fresh fries. Coleslaw is crisp and sweet. Mushroom Swiss burger is very good as well. Beer is always cold! Have had great service by the staff. The wait for food was reasonable on a busy Friday night. Jason the bartender is a Michigan fan though(nice guy, so I won’t hold that against him). Atmosphere is very casual and friendly. A great place for an after hours meeting. Load up the juke box with some tunes and have some laughs, or sit out on the deck if you can and enjoy!

Eat here every once in a blue moon. Don’t really care for them letting the dogs into the restaurant(especially if they been out in the rain). Yes I am serious about the the dogs. They have an area in the corner near the kitchen/bar/store were they lay. I suggest you don’t sit at the high top next to them. Fish is always good and plentiful. Service is average at best. Be ready to wait when they are busy as the kitchen is small and the food takes forever. In fact, forever may be an understatement. Specials are fair price for the portions you receive. Frog legs are good. Pop refills cost, first refill is free… from there you pay extra each time. Would have rated it higher but because of the dogs and the wait it gets a 2(should be a one and a half). Would have been a 4 without the animals and a little faster on the food.

We stopped here after seeing a few good reviews on Unilocal. The kids were just too hungry to wait an hour until we got to Cleveland. Plus, we like trying new places on vacation. It wasn’t too far off the Ohio Turnpike/80 E– few miles. However, the décor was the best thing about the place in our opinion. It’s next to a boat ramp on a very muddy river, thus the specialty of seafood. It was kitschy with lots of ephemera, cute signs, etc. Your basic dive. It was moderately busy for a Friday at lunch. Must be a fav with the locals who work in downtown Fremont. My husband, a spice lover, ordered the triple X wings, the kids got cheeseburgers, and I ordered the fried bologna sandwich. Perch and Walleye were on the menu as specialties but we just weren’t in the mood. Maybe we should have because everything except the fries was disappointing. The wings were so NOT spicy that my wimp of a daughter could eat them. They were also on the small side. She only tried them because her burger was a charcoal brick. No we didn’t specify it well done or anyway other than the way it came. My fried bologna was tasty but came with two pieces of bologna which were each an inch thick and bigger than a saucer. It was way too much meat for a single sandwich or six for that matter. Onion rings were from a bag. However, the fries were fresh cut and had a good potato flavor. Service was prompt and polite, but we were definitely treated differently than the locals. We had to wait at the bar for several minutes before we could get our bill as well. I regret not making the kids suck it up for another hour.

You can either drive up to this restaurant or approach it by boat on the Sandusky River. Either way the food is great, the perch specially is fantastic, the beer is cheap and cold. What else could you ask for?

Traveling on our way to Denver. we were tired and hungry and luckily, found this little gem on Unilocal.I ordered the walleye dinner and my husband got a veggie burger. The portion of fish was enough to serve two, as were the hand-cut fries. The salad was great as was everything. Just as we were being served, we started talking to a couple sitting behind us. Turned out to be the owner and his friend. We thoroughly enjoyed a delicious dinner chatting away with the couple, seated on their outside deck overlooking the river. Prices were also very reasonable. What a great find!

Some of the best Lake Erie yellow perch around. I drove 30 minutes and will be back. If you eat here and leave hungry it’s your fault. Small kitchen, so expect to wait a little time for your food.

I’m visiting Fremont and had lunch here today after seeing the restaurant’s ad in the Catholic Church bulletin yesterday. It was wonderful, in a folksy, no frills, delicious eats way. The restaurant is tucked against the flood-plain escarpment on the east side of the Sandusky River. The outside deck has a 180-degree view of the river, with Brady Island beyond and the Fremont skyline(lots of church steeples!) in the distances to the left. The entrance driveway snakes down to near river level, then you have to take a sharp right up to the parking lot. A large metal building on the right with a huge«Tackle» sign on its roof is NOT the restaurant, or even close to it. Inside, the place is dark, with quite an eclectic assortment of stuff hanging from the ceiling. I wonder if anyone’s done a catalog or anthropological study of it. We ate on a closed-in terrace(but not the outside deck). I had the walleye sandwich; my sister had the mushroom cheesburger($ 5.95 each). We shared an order of fries($ 2 or $ 2.50; I forget). She had an iced tea($ 1, $ 0.75 refill); I had a Yingling beer($ 2.50 or $ 2), which was suggested after I’d asked what they had on tap(nothing) … or local. Yuengling is made in Pottsville, Pa., hardly local. It also was very weak tasting. Blech! Never again. Our sandwiches were delicious! The walleye sandwich came with six good-sized(2 – 3 by 3 – 4 inches each) pieces of fish fried perfectly: crispy on the outside(batter) and melt-in-your-mouth succulent inside. The bun was large(6 – 7 inches in diameter?) perfectly toasted & buttered. Three of the pieces were plenty to cover the bun surface; we ate the other three as is. Yum! My sister loved her burger, which was very large and smothered in lots of cheese and mushrooms. The fries were a bit disappointing. They were clearly freshly made, but were greasy and maybe a little undercooked. We were the only lunch diners at 1 p.m. today … so maybe the frier was not up to temperature?(But the fish was perfect!) Our service was excellent and very friendly. We’ll love to come back!(On Wednesday nights, the walleye dinner is 8.95, $ 3 off the regular price.) I give Tackle Box 4 stars because the food is so good, despite the fries and lack of good beer. Ideally, it should be at 3.5 stars, I’d think. But 3 is too low, considering the excellence of what I consider the main event: the food. — - — - — - - We came back to the Tackle Box 2 tonight for their Wednesday night special: 1 pound of fried walleye filets(with fries and a side) for $ 8.95. What an incredible and delicious bargain! The fish was just as great as I’d had for Monday’s lunch … but there was SO much more of it: At least 10 pieces. The four of us sutffed ourselfs and still packed two large styrofoam take-home containers with fish to enjoy tomorrow. Deeelicious! Check out my photo to see what it looked like. The fries are still just so-so … and it does cost a quarter for more tartar sauce after you deplete your first cup. No biggie. This is one of the great-tasting restaurant bargains anywhere.
