Sharks Ice at Fremont

Just bought a pair of Bauer Vaporx500 and the guy who helped me was very attentive and friendly. He helped me pick out a size and I guess whatever shoe size you wear it’s two down so I’m a 9.5 in men’s shoes and 7.5 in hockey skates he even sharpened them for me he was really cool. Now I just have to try them out here!

Two and a half stars, all for the teachers and the service in the shop.
My daughter goes here for skating lessons, and the teachers have been nice. It’s a combination of half free skate and then half lesson (1 hour total). We bought skates here too, and the guys in there are very helpful in selecting and then priming your skates.
I have to agree that in terms of overall appeal, it does need a clean-​up. And they have not been good at conveying messages about changes in classes — once they happened to cancel all classes for an event or something, but I didn’t happen to find that out until I arrived there, having driven 25 minutes to the rink (and then another 45 minutes home in rush hour traffic) ! And obviously other parents didn’t know either as I saw others turning around with their kids — there was a sign once you walked in. Um, really? You can’t send a mass email since you have all our info when we sign up? I did call ahead of time after that for holidays because I just didn’t want to assume anymore.
Overall, okay place. Definitely better ones out there, but it’s decent for lessons.

My son is taking hockey lessons here and the staff is very friendly. They are sort of hidden from the main streets but they have plenty of parking and that’s one of the first things I notice when I go to new places. There’s an odd smell when you walk in but after a few minutes your senses just gets used to it. It is an ice hockey ring so I don’t get why people walk in here with shorts and flip flops but oh well… it’s their cold feet not mine. Their restrooms could use some remodeling but at least they are clean. They have a few rooms where the kids can gear up and leave their bags in which is great. I am looking forward to a few more sundays here.

My brother and I struggled with finding a place to rent some skates for the event for season ticket holders at Levi’s Stadium Outdoor Series. I pretty much spent my work day looking for a place to rent or even buy skates. We were THAT desperate! They weren’t picking up their phone so we decided to drop by to see what they could do. Surely enough, they rented out some skates to us for super cheap! We easily saved time and money.
I can’t review based on the rink itself but it seemed very busy during our pick up and return.

This is the closest ice skating place nearby, so my friends and I decided to give it a try. At the time that we went, it was a little bit crowded and it was extremely cold. I like the food bar that is included here to stop by and get something to eat or drink when you are in need of an item. I also like the separated borders for an area for those who are experienced and for those who are new to ice skating. I enjoyed my experience here and I will be returning.

Public Session ice skating experience only, no amenities or anything else.
I should note that I’m an experienced recreational skater. I skate fast because I’m tall and it’s exercise for me. I typically skate at Dublin Iceland which has a larger rink.
Saturday night public session:
PRO:
NHL rink size, OK but could be bigger
CON:
1) Only a few benches inside the rink arena to sit on to put on your skates, the only other area is between a food court and the rental place, which is obviously packed.
2) They conduct classes during the public session, which is a MAJOR NO-​NO. You get figure skaters dashing perpendicular into an already crowded and slow moving mess.
3) They don’t regulate the flow, so you end up with people standing everywhere, blocking the flow of skaters, and the skating speed slows down to a crawl.
4) Too many kids/​teenagers alike dashing perpendicular to the direction of flow, resulting in hazardous situations.
5) Only 2 entry/​exit doors 10 feet from each other (on the bend of the rink) to the ice rink, blocked either by gawking parents or kids who can’t figure out whether to get in or out, further creating frustration.
6) Ultimately the staff is responsible for the flow of traffic, and they FAILED miserably.
Will never go there again.

4 star review for birthday party held here for my daughter. Susan was awesome to work with, and everyone had fun. Signed the kid up for lessons, cuz she couldn’t wait to skate again. But after 2 lessons, I am less enamored of this place. The check in process is archaic. Need to wait in a long line to get a sticker to get on the ice. We bought skates, it shouldn’t be this difficult. Lessons are 30 minutes, with 30 minutes of free skate, but there are so many kids, I’m not sure there is much individual attention. They need to smooth out the process, or we won’t be continuing.

This review is strictly regarding the pro shop… as many pro shops at rinks the product depth is limited which is fine… but the customer service is really poor. Without writing a lengthy account of my experience, I will limit my comments to a lack of desire to assist the customer in purchasing decisions and an amazing lack of flexibility or follow up on reasonable customer satisfaction concerns. I would only buy something here if my child was about to go on the ice for a game and was missing a piece of gear.

First off, I should say I don’t skate or play hockey… my SO does.
I hate coming to this place. It’s disgusting. Filthy. Stinky to the nth degree.
The bathrooms are horrid. They need to power wash them down just to make them halfway decent.
Upstairs is the bar (and viewing area). The TVs are far too loud for anyone’s comfort and the staff won’t turn them down, even though I’ve seen two people ask.
There are always very little kids running through the bar, with zero supervision. I’ve tripped over them a few times, and they’ve managed to trip me, too. Not okay!
Now the good stuff: prices are ok, parking is always fine, and the ice is great.
Yeah, that’s it!

Great staff for hockey. The other parents are very nice too. Kids really love it here. Only downside is the one rink shared with figure skaters and recreational skaters during open ice — it gets crowded!

This place is super cute. Came her for a 5-​year old birthday party and it was held upstairs in the bar. The employees were very attentive with the fact I had a stroller and needed to use the handicap lift to get up to the party in the bar area. The servers were nice with the food and drinks. We were able to sit upstairs and watch everyone skate through the windows. The skate staff was very imformative and they skate around too to make sure the rink is orderly. It’s cute to see every age group in the beginner area with buckets stacked high to help them skate. You can even hire Sharkey to come and skate with you if you’re throwing a party. That was the coolest thing ever. Great place for a kid party.

I moved to Fremont a year ago and found out about Sharks Ice at Fremont pretty much around the same time, but I really started to to be at this place because Fremont’s Recreation program offered sessions through
. My four years old son expressed interest in ice skating in January but I was hesitant because of the cost. Through Fremont Recreation Sharks Ice had a 6-​week session for ½ hour each that included the cost of skate rentals ($ 4.25) so we jumped in and then never looked back. Once we knew the boy was really into it we purchased our own skates (hockey skates for kids are about $ 49 and figure skates $ 75) which the pro store offered with 10 percent discount since we also took lessons there.
My son really loves skating and, after the initial warming up with the Fremont Recreation
sessions (which does not seem to be available during the summer), is now in the full Sharks Ice program for Pre-​Hockey, which is 1 full hour (½ hr of instruction with (½hr free skate) for 12 weeks at $ 165, not including the cost of skates. The pro store doesn’t have the best hours weekdays (M-​Th 5:30p-9p, Fridays 4:00pm-9:00pm) but is definitely more available on weekends (Saturdays 8:30am-7:00pm, Sundays 8:00am-9:00pm). The staff is friendly and they also offer private lessons (it costed us around $ 42 for 30 min plus ice time cost which is $ 8.75 for kids 12 and under and $ 9.75 for 13 and older) which is really amazingly worth it (we were allow to split with another kid). For the little kids, Coach Susan and Coach Robbie are very good. For the hockey parents who don’t want to brave the cold inside the rink, you can go to Stanley’s Bar upstairs and view the kids from there with TV, drink, food, and wi-​fi.
This place also offers birthday parties (minimum $ 250 for 10 kids) and I will have to update my review for this place once we have our 5^th birthday party here. I cannot be happier that we have this right here in our community.

Great place to hang out with kid. They are very kid friendly. Have a kid section. Also friend can hang out upstairs.

It’s a fun place to come and play a game of pool. You can grab a drink at the bar, play a game of pool, and watch the hockey game right across from you.
However, the pool table is not working. It was out of order last night.

I like the Bar. i used to come here in the earlier 90s and play hockey when it was still called isoplex… regardless it’s still a fun place to go

I came here with a friend this past sunday. We paid $ 14 per person (adult ticket fee + skate rentals) It was my first time ice skating and I’d say that I had fun. There were definitely more people than I thought there would be, and they were mostly young children, but it’s alright since i needed to go slow anyway. haha. I clung to the railing a lot, so there weren’t many people «getting in my way» since it seemed that most of the children and adults there were more experienced skaters than i was.
Good experience overall, would like to come back and practice ice skating more.

We have beginner’s toddler class here at Sharks Ice.
One session of a 5 week class is a great started for young children.
Instructor is very good, however, the number of kids compared to the number of teacher/​s is too high.
Great place to learn ice skating.

Best place in the bay to ice skate. Not overly crowded and they have a area sectioned off for the kids that need to use the buckets to learn.
Best part is the nice bar area upstairs with plenty of seating, outlets for laptops, big screen tvs, and beer on tap! What more can you ask for. The kids and tire themselves skating their hearts out and you can chill upstairs stress free!

I didn’t think an ice skating rink could really be all that awesome. You skate around. That’s about it. But the great thing about this place is that there’s a little area sectioned off for people (mostly kids) can use buckets to help them learn how to ice skate. Great because you don’t have speed demons running over your 5yr old.
Also, there is a great area for people that don’t want to skate. Other places stick you out in the cold, have some crappy little uncomfortable benches. But this place has a legit bar area. It’s nice and toasty. Great comfortable seating, tvs. The gf didn’t want to ice skate, so she spent her time in there.

Love the rink. It’s low key unlike rinks inside the mall or yerba buena. It’s also refreshing to watch figure skaters go around the rink with their practice on ice. There is a bar at this rink which overlooks the rink length wise. The ice condition is nice with plenty of seating around the rink and outside of the rink. For public skating, you will need to go into their office which is immediately to the left of the main entrance.
I would definitely go again to skate and hang out here. Nice place to bring a date!
