Great RV. Great check in and check out. Then after 3 other weekly rentals, they claimed we had damaged the vehicle and would not return Any security deposit. We had a clean check off sheet at turn in. So be prepared to lose your thousand dollars.

If I could give these guys a big fat zero, I would. The RV we rented was fine, it was getting the security deposit back that was the problem. This guy Curt will respond to this and tell me «inexperienced drivers blah blah blah» (see multiple others below with the same experience). In a nutshell, he’s full of crap. They don’t deal straight up with you — avoid these guys if possible.

Unilocal readers — I hope that Curt’s drawn-​out and defensive reply to my initial Unilocal review (seems to be his M.O. after reading other reviews) even further supports my comments about not doing business with this company. The majority of solid and honest CEOs care about the reviews, and do what’s needed to improve the business and to take care of the customer. As you can all see, Curt’s fix is to be publicly defensive and to explain numerous excuses as to why his dishonest business should be flourishing. I am escalating this matter, as the company practices illegally with its deposit return processes, per California law. This isn’t my opinion, nor do I claim to be an expert. This is just fact. Numerous people have waited months for their deposit to be returned — simply not acceptable business practices. Again, save yourself the headache, and rent your RV from an honest business who takes pride in doing what’s right for their customers, and fights for return business. That’s the definition of a well-​ran company, in my opinion. This company is certainly not one of those.

RENTERS BEWARE! MAKE SURE TO GET YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT BACK!
First off, the rental process from these guys was relatively seamless. The RVs were clean. One RV we had, had a broken awning, the other had problems retracting the main section of the RV. But I don’t think these should be counted against this company… that’s the fault of the RVs and their original owners.
However, everyone who rents from these guys NEEDS to be very careful about their security deposit. Both my friend and I didn’t get our $ 1,000 security deposit until we asked for it. It took us over half a year to realize we haven’t received a check or a debit to our cards, so we both had to call in to get our security deposit back. I don’t know if this is a «two-​off» case and it simply was an «oversight» as they claim it was, but I would HIGHLY caution everyone who rents from these guys to double check and make sure that they get their security deposit back!

I surprised my wife on a day we celebrated both her Bday & our Anniv by renting a SlingShot from SFBAPRV’s for two days of pure magic! This 3-​wheeled open-​air «roadster» gave us ammazing views as we drove down the coast to Carmel then onto Big Sur. Standard driver license all that’s needed. You feel like you’re driving a motorcylcle, but with the comfort & protection of sitting in a car… INCREDIBLE. Once we pulled away at the start of our journey there was a little concern from both of us… stepping out of our «comfort zone». As we got away from crowded morning freeways and onto coastal settings, the thrill washed all worries away. We will definitely rent one again! The process of pickup and drop off were easy, even when our return was after hours they provided us with the combo to access the grounds, leave the SlingShot, grab our vehicle and be on our way. To Curt, the owner, Jack & especially LaNell who processed our reservation & pickup… THANK U for making the celebration one we won’t soon forget!

We had a bad ordeal last week in Utah with our RV. This weekend we have another family trip planned so I knew who to call. LaNell was awesome at getting us all set up for a unit that looks perfect for this weekends trip. We have rented before from SF Bay Area Private RV Curt and his staff are always courteous and helpful. Stay tuned for any an update.
Long overdue follow up: Our trip was awesome we had a great unit well worth the value we paid. Upon dropping off the unit the owner (Kurt) walked us through his check-​in procedure he made a comment about how nicely we had cleaned the unit recognizing the effort. We simply planned on returning it in as good or better condition then we got it.
About ten day I had not received the refund I was going to call them the next day the check arrived in the US mail. The check was post marked on the 8^th day after the return but thanks to US mail took an extra few days. The check was for the full deposit we left.
We are so thankful the SF Bay Area Private RV’s a company that takes the time to explain how everything will work.
Need to plan another family vacation soon.

Just came across this comment and needed to rebuke this company before anyone makes the same mistake we did by renting an RV with this SF Bay area company. We had no idea that our rental would cost $ 1200 for 3 nights!!! While the owner states we brought the RV back 8 hours late, he is mistaken. We originally notified the rental agent that we expected to return the RV no earlier than at 6PM-​7PM on our return date, as we would not leave Rio Vista until 5PM-​no sooner!. Unfortunately We were stuck in terrible traffic due to a freeway accident and were 2 hours later than expected. .We called the company to notify them we were in traffic. We DID not at anytime use the Bathroom, Shower or propane during our 3 rental nights We objected being charged pump-​out and excessive cleaning and propane fees.. We did not cook at all in the RV. We left the RV clean, wiped all surfaces, the floor, bathroom, hallway and all kitchen surfaces with windex. We could not sweep as the RV-​t did not come with a vacuum nor broom! We left 1 trash bag by the door as we did not know where to dispose of it at night in their dark parking lot. I did not realize that we were charged an extra night stay-​due to being 2hours late. Again, the rental knew the rental knew our «check out and return times «before we departed-​on Friday afternoon !. Still do not know why were were charged an additional $ 800* – who charges $ 80 PER HOUR for cleaning an RV?.
At $ 400 per night, we could have rented a wonderful vacation HOME!
this was the Worst RV Rental experience due to excessive overcharges and hidden fees! Terrible business!

I have to say that I have rented from SF RV around 7 times in the past three years. All of my experiences have been great. Sometimes there might be a glitch or two but they are used RV’s. I would rent from them again. I have always had Great Customer service. Thanks to both LaNelll and Curt.

SF Bay Area Private RV’s is the worst company I have ever done business with. I cannot advise you highly enough to find another company to rent from. The following story is entirely true.
I rented from SF Private RV because I wanted the security of a company to insure the reliability of the vehicle. This assumption proved very wrong. This August we planned to take «Amber» from San Francisco to Idaho. Our first day out, driving down I-​5, we had our first tire blow out. We waited 2 hours in the heat for the truck to come. After they changed the flat tire we drove to Les Schwab tire to replace the spare tire. I paid out of pocket for that tire.
Several hours later, as we drove past Redding on I-​5, we had a second tire blow out on the outside rear driver side tire. This second blow out damaged the tire flap and it’s frame and severed a drainage line in the RV.
The next day, Sunday, was lost because the repair shops were closed. Curt Chandler, the CEO of the company, assured us that to have two blowouts in a single day was extremely rare. He agreed that in all probability the tires were defective and he agreed to pay to have all the remaining tires on the RV replaced. The defective tires were «Ironman» tires. The repairman at Les Schwab stated that he had never heard of this brand of tires.
On Monday we finally got the repairs done. Curt also asked me to document the down time in our vacation so that the lost days could be redressed when we returned the vehicle. This is a commitment that he reneged on when we returned the vehicle.
When we arrived in Idaho and proceeded to a remote campsite we discovered that the RV electrical system would not hold a charge. After a few hours of use, the battery drained. When the battery drained, the Carbon Monoxide alarm went off as a safety measure. The alarm went off during the night and woke our old baby.
Over the next week we made repeated calls to SF Bay Area RV and its CEO Curt Chandler. Most of these calls were left unanswered. When we did reach LaNell she offered no suggestions on how to fix the problem, nor did she help us find a shop that could. Her one comment at this time was that «Amber has never had problems in the past, but perhaps it was time to retire her as a rental vehicle.» We finally gave up on using the RV and spent four nights in hotels at additional expense. We finally came home four days early.
When we returned the vehicle to SF Private RV we assumed they would be eager to make amends for the trouble we had endured. We were wrong. In their reply letter, drafted with a lawyer, they disclaimed any responsibility for these problems. As a final insult to the injury they had the nerve to send me a legally bullying letter that stated if I pursued the matter any further they would come after me for the money they spent to replace the defective tires.
This company is dishonest and unreliable. They wrecked my vacation. Don’t let them wreck yours. Stay away.

If the toilet does not work it is not a luxury RV

My wife and I rented an RV from SF Bay Area Private RVs to go to Grand Canyon and Zion. The experience could not have been better! Prior to booking the RV, Curt was very responsive and friendly to answer questions about the process and the RV fleet. On day of pickup the team was very friendly and walked you thru absolutely everything you need to know. I have driven large vehicles before so was comfortable driving the RV but if you have not they offer to take you on a test drive to walk you thru your first drive. If that is not enough they have a full print out of all the items you need to know such as hookup’s and some Do’s and Don’ts. The point is they spend the time with you and make sure you don’t leave the lot until you are comfortable. We did not have to use it but it comes with a protection package where any trouble you call and they can answer questions on the phone or provide roadside assistance. It is not only for breakdown’s but also general RV questions if you have questions/​trouble on the road. We returned the RV clean and did everything on the check list and received our full deposit back with no issues. I can not say enough about the wonderful experience and friendly staff. I have already recommended a bunch of friends and will definitely be renting from them again!

I really don’t know where to start other than to say that Curt & SF Bay Area Private RVs are absolutely the best RV rental company around. Curt will do whatever it takes to make sure your RV rental experience is TOP SHELF! He made my wife and I feel like we were the only customers he was taking care of all the while he was taking care of more than a dozen others. I always say that a true test of a business is what they do and how they respond when something goes wrong, even if it isn’t their fault. The coach we were going to rent got delayed on its return and, as a result, it wasn’t going to be back at the shop until 2 days after our planned departure which was a major problem. After a few calls with Curt he had us upgraded to «Ellie», the most beautiful 40′ diesel pusher we had ever seen. Curt was available throughout our entire trip via email, text and cell. Absolutely the best customer service around, bar none! 5 stars are not enough for this business! We will be back to rent again and again and again…
