Dr. Roth was highly unprofessional on numerous occasions during my wifes visit. Made her feel uncomfortable and insulted her. Didn’t bother to take interest on my wifes condition serious. Just recommended creams. Thank goodness she sees a real doctor that is helping her. Thanks for nothing Dr. Roth.

I have been seeing Dr. Roth for quite a few years in the same location on Mowry in Fremont. Although I know the location when I see it, I felt a little unsure this morning and asked my wife, who was sitting at her computer, if she would look up the address because I was a little rushed to get to my appointment with him. I think she Goggled his name and somehow ended up here at Unilocal where she saw a large number of low scores and told me about them when I returned. I read them all and noticed that a majority of the low ratings related to his bedside manner, so I thought I would put in my experienced two cents worth.
During my experience of about 15 years I have come to know Dr. Roth as a straight talker. By that I mean that he will tell you precisely what he thinks and doesn’t sugar coat anything.
The reason I saw him this morning was that I had some tiny bumps on my forehead that my wife was worried might be skin cancer because once in the dim, dark past Dr. Roth removed some similar bumps in exactly the same place and all that either my wife or I could remember was the dreaded «C» word. I explained that to him and mentioned that my wife asked me to also get my arms checked because I get a lot of sun.
Dr. Roth gave me a mirror and got me to point at exactly where the area was on my forehead. He looked the area over and told me that the bumps might be pre-​cancerous and that he would freeze them to be safe. After freezing the bumps he said he wanted to look my arms over so that I could honestly tell my wife that he did. He said he didn’t see anything except a bunch of small scars. He asked me to come back in about a year for him to take a peek at my forehead. That all made sense to me.
I mentioned that I tried to protect my skin from too much sun and Dr. Roth proceeded to give me the 5 minute story on UVA, UVB, and sun blockers. He also gave me some perspective on how long it takes UV to cause skin cancer (30 years) and that effects seen now are due to things that happened 30 years ago. That was all interesting and useful information. I don’t remember anything offensive about his delivery.
Dr. Roth may be a little short but I trust his expertise. I believe I have been well taken care of by him. I much prefer the truth with no sugar to a lot of sugar with some BS mixed in if that’s the choice.

I went to see Dr. Roth after moving to California from Indiana, having seen other dermatologists in the past, Dr. Roth is probably the BEST I’ve ever dealt with. Yes, he is extremely direct, and he may answer questions without considering the patients, ideas, but he’s knowledgable and very experienced, and he cites fact to justify his diagnosis. I went to Dr. Roth with FOUR different skin concerns, and he patiently addressed each one of them, and he took the time to listen to me, at the same time debunking all my theories. Dr. Roth is exactly what I look for in a physician, he doesn’t screw around, his differential diagnoses are fact base and he is there to treat. Dr. Roth may not be the best physician for overly sensitive whiny people, but he’s perfect for me. My appointment was at 11am, I was called back to the exam room at 10:58 and he was in the exam room by 11:05 and I was in my car by 11:30. Five stars for Dr. Roth! I will be back.

I had a cysts right under my chin and I originally wanted to get it done at the location in Milpitas but they were booked and I needed my cysts to be removed and healed before my wedding… So the Milpitas office told me to see Dr. Roth and I was fine with it…
I went in saw Dr. Roth and schedule another appointment for me to get the cysts removed… Everything went well for me and I hand no complaints. While I was on my honeymoon I felt something pocking out of my scar I had from the surgery and it was irritating me… I took my tweezers and pulled out a stitch from before ! I wasn’t dr. Roth fault but the nurse that was removing my stitches at the time…
Hope you have good insurances because it can get pricy with all the surgery and follow up!

I am writing on behalf of my 79 year old mother who does not have computer access. She went in to get moles checked to make sure they were not cancerous. My mother’s words are as follows:
«He did not examine all of my moles and that’s what I was supposed to get done when I went to him. His medical assistants were excellent and they had me remove my shirt b/​c that’s where my moles were. But when he came in he didn’t even reach the table where I was sitting before he said they are not cancerous. He made me feel so insignificant. I needed him to repeat that each of the moles I had were not cancerous b/​c I have so many new ones. He only spent about 3 minutes with me. He responded by saying „I already told you, how many times do I have to tell you?“ I needed to have reassurance and he was so rude. At that point I felt so uncomfortable all I wanted to do was to get out of there. There are parts of my body I can’t check myself and I was hoping he would check my body for me. He made me feel like I was a person that couldn’t pay my bill or something but I have insurance. It was like he didn’t know that or that he didn’t want to deal with me, a Medicare patient.»
Hope this keeps others from going to him and having negative experience.

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews. Dr. Roth is probably the best dermatologist I’ve seen in yearsssss. I’ve had psoriasis since I was around 12. Never bad just a few spots here and there.
Out of all the other dr’s I’ve seen he’s been the most helpful and he’s the only dr that prescribed me something different for around my ears than for the other spots on my body because it was safer to use.
The office is clean and the staff are very nice. Hopefully I won’t be returning soon but if I do it will be with Dr. Roth.

I wish I could give this «dermatologist» negative stars. Dr. Roth needs to retire ASAP and burn his Stanford University placard hanging by the front desk. He is the epitome of a condescending unhygienic rude old hag. Save your time and money, there’s a reason why all the other dermatologists are booked and he’s not.

This was my first and last visit to Dr.Roth. The staff was friendly and helpful and made me feel at ease. Then the so called Dr. entered the room. Dr. Roth came in introduced himself and then it was downhill from there. He never referred to the notes that the nurse had put down about my visit. I spend a lot of time in the sun and apply sun screen every day 2 – 3 times a day. He basically called me a liar. Told me I was not. He then proceeded to talk to me in a condescending manner without regard to why I was there to start with. I had came in because of a discomforting rash on the side of my forehead. Which he first claimed wasn’t there. Then he arrogantly pulls out a hand mirror and says for me to show him as though it was all in my mind, which I did. He then finally admits to seeing it and then says «what do you want me to do about it»? I knew then all I wanted was to get this person out of my space before he pushed me to far. After listening to his belligerent attitude for another five minutes he leaves and I was quickly behind him with the thoughts of never to return to him or Washington Township medical group again for employing such a person. He gets one star only because it’s required to post, but he does not deserve any.

I had been coming to this dermatology center for over a decade. I’ve seen Dr. McNay, Dr. Jacobs, and Dr. Carmel, but this was the worst experience I’ve ever had at a dermatology office, and I’ve had a LOT. First of all, I spent a good 5 minutes explaining the background of my skin to the nurse, who listened very patiently and jotted down notes. However, it was obvious that Dr. Roth did not read any of them. When I tried to explain what I believed might be the cause behind the rash I had developed on my forehead, he completely cut me off before I even got a sentence out. Then when I told him I thought it was eczema (a logical assumption, since I’ve suffered from eczema my whole life), he says bluntly, «Why would you assume that. Just because you’ve had it before, you think you have it now? Well you’re wrong.»
Um ok, my bad. Rude.
Then when I mentioned that I was only in town for a couple more weeks, he sighs impatiently and asks, «So you expect me to fix you completely in 2 weeks?»
And he scoffs. SCOFFS.
Then when time came for the «inspection,» he just walked up to me and rubbed his fingers all over my forehead. No gloves. Didn’t even wash his hands, the same hands he opened the door with and took notes with and touched his own face with seconds ago.
Uhh. I’m not a dermatologist but I’m pretty sure that’s a no-​no.
Anyway. The whole experience sucked. He talked over me the whole time, borderline mocked my theories of possible causes, and prescribed me something that I had TOLD his nurse I’d used in the past, and didn’t want to use again. He left me with a laundry list of prescriptions that I promptly ripped up as soon as I got out the door.

He made good use of my time and didn’t even spare a rhyme.
Helped me with my problem and sent me along my way. Before I left he said «it would all be okay».
Now I can surely say HE SAVED THE DAY!
Thank You Mr Roth for understanding me and giving me lots of options to deal with my Hyperhidrosis. As rare as my condition is only 1 to 3% of the population has this & you were above and beyond a fountain of knowledge.

How do you give a negative 5 stars? I had a lump under my scalp that Dr. Roth surgically removed, along with the scalp around it. My hairline is now disfigured with the pinched area making a reverse widows peak. I can’t believe he just took out the whole area, skin, hair and all, instead of removing the lump below. Paying the price for not doing my research.

I just saw Dr. Roth again after a very long long time and I was so impressed that 1: he remembered me 2: how that comfortable feeling came back again. I just trust him and on my adventure of trying other dermatologist nobody compared. He knows my history, he knows what works and doesn’t work, and now he is helping me clean up my skin once again for my next year wedding. We also discussed doing laser skin surgery later this year to help with the old scars. I am super excited to get my skin looking and feeling great all over again.

I would give zero stars if I could. However, since I did learn a lesson from this experience then Dr. Roth would get 1 measly star.
Listen to Unilocal reviews. I ignored the reviews and came out feeling jipped, almost feeling robbed.
He offered basic advice you could find anywhere and was very condescending as someone else mentioned here before. He realized I was not able to return since I’m only visiting from out of town — completely stopped the appointment (despite me paying the full co-​pay) and was like sorry «these are the breaks…» Really? How did you become a doctor acting like this.
A regular and functional office should have advised that if I was not a local that I should probably not make an appointment and to make an appointment with a doctor from my permanent residence.
Read the review and save yourself money, time and aggravation by not seeing Dr. Roth.
**btw — only reason I saw Dr. Roth was because the other doctors were not available and the only person who had open appointments were Dr. Roth — go figure.

I would like to echo some of the previous sentiments– especially that Dr. Roth is extremely rude, condescending and dismissive– not exactly the qualities a good physician possesses.
I accompanied my parent to an appointment with Dr. Roth. Being a physician myself, I had a few questions regarding his treatment plan and what the anticipated course of illness would be. Dr. Roth refused to provide me with any further information besides «these are the tests we’re ordering now». I understand– but why are you ordering these tests and what diagnoses are you considering? He stated he had other patients and left the room after 7 minutes. I found him in the hallway and let me him know that I too was a physician and I felt his behavior extremely appalling.
He later called our house and the first question he asked was «are you a practicing physician or still in residency?» I should have stated «I don’t see how that’s relevant» Instead, I told him the truth– that I was a resident. He then answered a few questions, but never apologized for his behavior. Whether I was a resident, a CEO, a 1^st grader– he was rude, dismissive and disrespectful.
My family and I will never see this physician again. He may have medical knowledge, but he has no knowledge of how to speak to people properly.

I like a dry sense of humor as much as the next gal, but that’s not what I got here. Nor did I find him thorough. He was condescending and dismissive.
This was my first (and last) visit to see Dr. Roth. His staff was friendly & efficient. His assistant asked me what I was seeing the Dr. for and wrote everything down. When Dr. Roth came in to the exam room, he did not seem to have any of the information asked of me by his medical assistant.
I came in with two issues, one needing a simple in-​office procedure, another needing a prescription (I’ve had previous experience and diagnosis with both issues by at least 6 different doctors, depending where my medical coverage happened to send me). Dr. Roth asked me about my medical issues and then proceeded to dismiss the first and treated it parially. Then he gave me a talk about how germs are everywhere and what makes me think that covering my mouth when coughing actually might help prevent the spread of a cold (and other such things). Don’t know, Doc – maybe all of the other Doctors, signs in medical offices and common sense that says covering your cough might help prevent spreading those pesky germs, just a little.
Then, after talking to me about the other issue, for which I needed a prescription, he told me about an over the counter product I could buy at this front desk and thanked me and left, before I had realized he had not given me the prescription. I realized just after he walked out of the exam room and had to ask the front desk and wait for several minutes while someone found him to get the prescription.
As I drove home, I realized that it was unacceptible that he only did half of the procedure I came in for, I called the office to see if he would complete it without my having to pay another $ 40 co-​pay. His office staff and manager apologetically told me that it was simply his policy that I would need to schedule another appointment and pay the co-​pay again. No thank you. I get new coverage soon. I’ll wait.
If this review was about the staff at this office, they would have received at least 4, probably 5 stars. But after my appointment with Dr. Roth, I can say I’ve never had such a poor experience with a physician, EVER. If I could have given him zero stars, I would have.

Dr. Robert Roth is rude and condescending… I don’t even think he deserves a full star. I’ve gone in twice to remove whiteheads on my face. The first time, I was impartial to him and the appointment. He took out my whiteheads and answered my questions.
Well, the second time I went in, he took out the whiteheads for me again and I asked him if there was any medication that I could apply to my face so that they wouldn’t appear again. He recommended RetinA. I was happy to take his advice, but being someone who likes to know about alternative products, I asked him if there are other brands that might serve the same purpose. He retorted, «Well what don’t you like about RetinA?» I timidly said nothing and that I’d just like to hear other alternatives, if there are other alternatives available. He looked and sounded pissed and said, «WELL, are you going to follow my advice or do your own research then?»
Looking back, I guess he was offended or felt that I was undermining his knowledge as a dermatologist, but at the time I was totally taken aback at his response. At the end of the appointment, he wrote me the prescription for RetinA and explained the instructions for how to apply it. I could tell he was rushing me, so I asked what I could do for my blackheads, and he said «I will get to that in one minute but I was explaining to you the directions for using RetinA, and I wasn’t done explaining yet.» At this point I was just fed up with him and (and myself for putting up with his insolence).
I left the appointment feeling as if I had done something wrong! I can’t believe I paid 20 bucks and waited for 45 minutes to get lectured by a grumpy man. Perhaps he was just having a bad day, but his attitude was just unnecessary. I wouldn’t recommend Dr. Roth if you’re looking for a dermatologist who will patiently answer your questions and treat you with basic respect.

Dr. Roth has a very dry personality. I also felt like he had a very condescending manner about him. I will not be going back to see him again.

If you enjoy waiting 45 min each visit then this is the place for you. Completely inconsiderate. What is the point of an appointment then? I have been to him tens of times and it is always the same story.
As a doctor he is pretty good, but can be a little bit smirky sometimes if you are genuinely trying to understand things and he disagrees with your expections.
