Being a contractor, I take pride in my work. So wanted to write a review about Quikrete powerloc jointing sand, which is used to fill the joints between pavers. This product has a polymer additive, that, after the product is swept into joints and then dampened, will harden and lock pavers together. I finished a paving job for a client a year ago, where I used the powerloc product. I ended up getting a call from my client to say that the joint sand is disappearing in areas between the pavers. I told the client that I would come by and take a look. Well I was amazed that joint sand was disappearing in some areas of the pavers from rain water. I went around to see if the sand joints were still hard, but all the joints were soft and not hard. So I called Quikrete products to discuss the issue. They pretty much told me that this can happen. When I asked them why this product had failed, they told me that the weather will deteriorate the additive in the sand. I also asked them what is the warranty on the product, they did not give me an answer. They just said each region is different, because the weather can affect the life span of these products and depends on how much water the pavers get. So the bottom line was that I was on my own with this problem. I know the joint sand would break down over time, but I am amazed this product has failed before a year is up, also being that the powerloc is expensive at $ 15 a bag. I told Quikrete I was unhappy and that they have lost my business and I told my client that I would fix the problem because at least I stand behind the quality of my product.

I used the Quikrete concrete coloring product on my 20-year old stamped concrete pool deck. I used a garden sprayer and my wife followed with a large hand brush. I am very happy with the results. Coverage was about 120 sf per gallon. We ended up buying 10 cans. We also did a two-color finish on the flat aged concrete on the service porch. It’s a trial and error process to get the splash down, spray with some extra water, and have the right brush to blend. It takes much less paint on the flat cement than the stamped. A few months later it still looks good. Makes the backyard and pool look very updated.
