Desmond Erasmus, M.D.

Consulted Dr Erasmus for some arm pain and numbness and misdiagnosed as elbow arthritis, despite bringing in a spine MRI to the consultation. Treated with sanctimony rather than patience and refused to listen to concerns and symptoms.
Wasted several weeks of ineffectual medication and consulted another physician instead, who correctly diagnosed and treated the spinal stenosis.

Dr. Erasmus is professional yet caring. He explained my situation so well and cared to spend time and call me after hours to clarify some issues. He is also not afraid to say when somebody else is more able to deal with my issues and referred me to that person. He collaborates with other surgeons to ensure what’s best for the patient. I would have been just as happy if Dr. Erasmus did my procedure. He has excellent bedside manners and is so knowledgeable about this field.

Dr. Erasmus recently removed a herniated disc in my neck and was absolutely amazing. He kept my family posted on the progress which made them all comfortable with the procedure. On top of that, everyone that came into even the smallest contact with me were absolutely so nice and friendly.

I have seen Dr. Erasmus for over 15 years. He is simply an amazing man as well as a gifted Dr. He helped me manage a chronic back injury for 13 years while I raised my kids. Once we (yes, I say we because it always felt like we were a team) were no longer able to manage it without narcotics, he set me up for surgery. He had always told me before 50, before 50. Since he had spent so much time explaining what was going on with my back, keeping me off pain pills and out of surgery until the right time came, once he said, I think it’s time, I totally trusted him. I had a very high tech surgery to fuse my L4-​L5 discs together. It was very successful. In the mean time, my husband started having some wierd sensations in his arms and hands. He saw many Dr.‘s who gave him the run around and mis diagnosed him over and over. Mainly because they were not listening to him. All the while his symptoms kept getting worse. Finally he was able to get an MRI and the Nuerologist, Dr. Khalsa (also great) who read it said you need emergency surgery, do you happen to know what surgeon you would like to see. Dr. Erasmus saw us that afternoon. Since I was only 1 month out of my surgery, he gave us 10 days to figure out how we were going to do this, but my husband had to be in a neck brace and off work. Basically, he was going paralyzed. Dr. Erasmus did the surgery, again a huge success and basically saved my husband from a life in a wheel chair. He says he is 98% back. There was no gaurantee he would get better, just that they could stop the process from getting worse.
Dr. Erasmus and his staff not only took very good care of us, they cared for us as individuals. They got to know us, and to know what we cared about. They showed concern for our teenage girls, and often asked how they were handeling things. Dr. Erasmus is that Dr. you hope you always hope you will get, skilled, compassionate, personable and proffessional. Even spiritual. Rare. I have and would highly recommend him.
