History

Established in 2012.

Built on the value of respect for the environment, Brian & Alicia Moeller (BRIALI) found fulfillment in planting and nurturing 11 varieties of grapevines, using biodynamic techniques since 2004. Their success in cultivating quality fruit inspired them to take it full circle, and embrace the challenge of utilizing eco-friendly practices in turning their grapes into wine. Though more labor intensive, the Moellers endorse the philosophy that «wine is made on the vine», and therefore their efforts result in better quality wine. The culmination of their experiences led to the opening of Briali Vineyards & Winery in the fall of 2012, located on the gently rolling hills of Country Meadows Golf Course in Fremont, Indiana.

Briali is the brain child of Brian and Alicia (or «Bri» and «Ali») Moeller. Both are educated in agriculture and have been making wine — albeit, on a considerably smaller scale — for four years. What makes Briali wine different, Brian Moeller says, is in the attention to organic detail. The wine isn’t certified organic — for many reasons, including the bureaucracy and cost of the certification — but the grapes are grown in an organic process. The grapes are grown without chemicals, and weeds are hand-pulled. The labels are made of 100 percent post-consumer waste. Moeller chose Country Meadows for Briali’s home because his family owns the property. His grandparents owned the restaurant that used to be housed in the new winery. In the corner is a piano his father gutted and added a wine rack to. When it was functional, the piano was inside the restaurant.

Moeller makes his wines in a back room of Briali, in 580-gallon tanks imported from Germany. Despite the tiny size of the winery, the
