Allegro Music

My wife just returned the rental Saxophone because it’s not working properly. And It’s been totally screw up my son’s concert recently. They said they can’t repair right away. There was no replacement one available either. We have paid over $ 50/​month for almost year. So, my wife has to buy a new one because my son needs right away. The one of employee gave us the final price higher than what we’ve been told at the beginning when we decided to buy the one of professional tenor Saxophone. So, we decided to buy the one of student tenor Saxophone because the price of professional one. And then, he gave us the higher price again for the student one. He said he gave us the price for Alto saxophone instead of Tenor. It doesn’t make any sense because we had Tenor almost year and just returned. Why he think we needed Alto Saxophone? I don’t know why they gave us the price of Alto one. Finally, we bought the student Saxophone because my son needs to use for another concert next week.
I expected to get a mail-​in rebate for $ 100. That’s what we saw from their advertising. But, he said it’s not available for the student Saxophone. I don’t know that is true or not.
At the end, he said we need to pay for repair of rental one. It’s really ridiculous. I know it was used one and it. It was not great condition not only functionally but also cosmetically when we had. But we took that because we knew it’s used one and it’s for rental. Also, they said it’s used one and it’s for rental… It’s wear and tear. That’s what he said when I talked to him. Now, he asked us to pay for repair. I will not go back to this store and I will not recommend this place based on what we had experienced today.

We’ve been going to Allegro for around 6 years, purchased a keyboard and a saxophone. We had great service for purchases and more especially repairs. My son dropped his new sax a month after purchase and Gabe was great at fixing the dent and alignment. He repaired it and has kept it going these 6 years. He also overhauled a clarinet I purchased used and keeps all our instruments tuned up. He is reasonable and very helpful. He’s taught my son little tricks for sticky keys and pins on the sax and did a quick turnaround for a concert. My son also took lessons from both Joel and Tim on clarinet/​sax and both are great teachers.
Update: Since writing this review Doug has taken over the woodwind repairs and I just wanted to give him a five stars in service. My son’s sax was experiencing various
problems and we took it in even during a busy time for the repair department. He was able to fit us in and did a fantastic job repairing the instrument. He also looked at a used flute I had purchased and indicated it was just fine needing no repairs. Continued great service from Allegro repair department!

Assuming the music part of Allegro is fine, but saw Clarence throw a tizzy in Chili’s today because he didn’t like the service. Cute!

Brass instrument repair: A bandmate recommended Joel after I had a disconcerting and awful experience with Ian at A&G/Best in Oakland. I couldn’t be more pleased. Every staff member in the store I spoke to was helpful, in fact. Joel cheerfully and competently repaired my horn in a half hour for a very reasonable price. He and his fellow reeds repairman were completely respectful and friendly – a refreshing difference from the inexplicably rude behavior I received from Ian at Best. I will happily use Joel’s services again.

I had a great experience here! I came in with some friends and we had a good time testing out the different instruments. The service was really good. I was helped by a guy named Julian. He was awesome! He was not extremely pushy like some other people. He really worked with me to figure out the best guitar to fit my needs. He was extremely patient which is a huge thing because I am very difficult and indecisive. The commercial is a little… Odd but it’s a really cool place when you actually check it out! I definitely will be going back soon to buy more merch!

I went here to rent a flute for my son who has just joined the school band. The sales girl was extremely helpful and super courteous. My son attempted to put the flute together but the head joint did not fit. I took it back and was told I would have to wait for the manager who was not in; so I was concerned that I was not able to just get a new one that day. I talked to Clarence today who said they would fix it or swap it out for another one before my son’s first day of practice. Super happy with the service and its affordable to rent from here :)

Nice little store, customer service was sub par, but the thing I can’t stand is the horrible commercial! What made him think that the voice used for singing was pleasurable? It makes my ears bleed everytime it comes on! Please do us all a favour and re record your commercial with a better singing voice! Uggghhh! The worst commercial I have ever heard!

I have always had a great experience at this place. Brian who used to work there, always used to take care of me and my husband. Lately, the service has tanked. We had friends visiting from our of the country who wanted to check out a music shop. We always recommended Allegro Music first. We took them to the store as they wanted to invest in a new mic for their band, who was going to play at the International Blues Competition in Memphis. When we asked to if we could take a closer look at one of the mics on display, the guy behind the counter rudely claim, «Are you sure you’re gonna buy this mic?» Like seriously, what the hell is that supposed to mean?! We didn’t want to test the mic cause obviously we know you can’t do that. We just wanted to see it more closely, we wanted to hold it and see if it was worth the money. Allegro, your customer service has TANKED!

My son was taking clarinet lessons from Chuckie Wood. All was fine until I told him that when the summer came our schedule would change. I asked him for his open slots & explained to him that if we could not find a time that worked we would simple take the summer off & reach out to see what he had available for the fall. He sent home his availability with my son at the next lesson. When I actually approached him about changing the schedule, things got really ugly. There was back & forth through text… which I have documentation of, in which he basically tells me to find a new teacher in the fall & that he is glad to open the spot up for someone that might appreciate him more. My only response was «wow.» I immediately called the store to share my experience. I received no response back. I only received a response after a second call in which I stated that I was prepared to leave a bad Unilocal review. They got back to me the following week telling me that he had responded first thing in the morning & that he was apologetic about his response. His apology consisted of him calling to say…“I hear you thought my text was rude. I am sorry you feel that way. Call me back if you want to talk.” If this were just me that he offended, I would not be writing now. My elementary school son is left wondering what he did wrong that his teacher doesn’t want to teach him any more & I am left wondering if he ever snapped on my child like he snapped on me. If you have a sensitive child as I do, I would avoid him as an instructor!!!

Support a great local music shop! I occasionally go into Allegro just to use a practice room for the same nominal fee that you would offer a friend. I have ringing in my half-​deaf right ear and playing an accoustic piano loudly shifts all my focus away from that… I imagine it to be like a soothing massage spa treatment without having to vulnerably strip down to a towel in front of a big Russian woman named Helga and her understudy named Greta. The people at Allegro are so damn nice and knowledgeable and so tolerant of the random non-​musical noise I make to excecise my fingers and chops. I hope they don’t lose any sales on my account.
I used to stammer when I was shorter and my social skills need immediate attention. That combined with my hearing issue can create some unintended but interesting moments. They hardly bat an eye and are really nice to me – thank you. Musicians tend to be quirky anyway and they have their share of quirks too from what I’ve noticed, so I feel at home.
Before buying online, stop at Allegro first. If they don’t have it maybe they can order it for you. It’s worth it and your risk of your payment info getting hacked is much lower (I had a two very bad experiences ordering music gear online just to save a few bucks). A price online my SEEM a little cheaper sometimes, but it can be more expensive in other ways in terms of service and risk. Plus, great independent local music shops like this one are a national treasure. I don’t know why, but knowing you got your gear and accessories from a local shop with cool people, somehow makes you sound better.

This review is for the terrible customer service that I received. I was greeted by a very sweet young man who was helping me but then someone else stepped in to answer some of my questions. I did not care for arrogant attitude of the man that stepped in. I felt like he was brushing me off and I did not appreciate the tone in which he spoke to me. I am new to owning an instrument and would have really liked this to be a good experience. I will go to another music store next time that I need help! Very disappointed!

Sales people are always courteous and let me browse or strum guitars w/​o any gimmicks. The store hosted a Taylor Road Show several years ago and I went. If you go there enough, they become more open with you. There used to a Harp guitar on their office with a Don’t Touch sign. It’s not there anymore.

The owner is the sweetest and kindest man! I definitely will be going back! We are so happy with our first guitar!

OK, so my initial experience was not so great. Since then, Mark has been super in giving private guitar lessons to my son. He is very patient with him and is always encouraging him. He even set aside one weeks practice sessions for him to try an electric guitar. My sons was so very excited. Thank you Mark.

Went to Allegro Music despite my qualms (have had consistent horrible customer service from them) to buy a ukelele. The guy there (the older guy with the very dark hair combed back) was so disinterested in helping me. It was as if he was doing me a favor.
He sauntered out of his office to «help» me after the nice friendly girl at the counter told him i needed to buy a «ukelele package». He walked towards me and without a smile or hello asked me «again» what I wanted, although the girl had already told him that I was there to buy a ukelele. After I repeated myself, he got the box from the front of the store and went behind the counter and sat down in front of a computer and without so much as a word or any information (as to what was in the box, etc.) asked me for my name and telephone number which he was typing/​adding to his database as I relayed the information. Then he asked me for my address. Why in the world would you need my address when I am only buying a Ukelele!!! When I asked him if he really needed my address — he said «no». After I asked him what was in the box and the price (note that he does not volunteer any information!) he begrudgingly gave me the information. I couldn’t help myself — i did let him know that I did not like his customer service and told him «a smile would be nice» I gave him my credit card and he walked over to the older caucasion lady (it could have been his mother?) who was standing by the credit card machine, and the two of them exchanged a comment and snicker — about me, I’m guessing.
A Good Morning or a smile would have been nice!!! Or some interest in the customer! It’s mind boggling how owners of a business are oblivious to how important customer service is!!! And the best part of doing business (from personal experience) — smiles do not cost you anything!!!

Remember to do your homework before shopping at Allegro. Their price is usually $ 3 to $ 10 more expensive than elsewhere. The service was okay, not bad but nothing impressive. Base on their pricing and service 2 stars is all I can give!

I really like this music store and mostly everybody has been absolutely wonderful but the guy Anthony was apparently the band manager is a jerk. He acted as though he was better than me just because you might have more knowledge about something does not make you better than someone else

A great place to buy your first one… We went there to buy my first electric guitar… and Jon very patiently listened to my requirements.(even though I was a bit confused :))…and suggested a wonderful guitar the squeir stratocaster by fender to us… he even helped us with the accessories that we would have required. and dint knew otherwise. hadnt it been for Jon!!!
I would definitely recommend this one.

I have been coming here for years and do not intend to stop. They are the nicest people and have the best customer service. The first thing I ever bought here was my first recording set-​up.
I have been taking my guitars here for pick ups swaps, setups, etc. and they alwasy do an excellent job. Brian and Jon surely know their stuff and set things up really nice. I usually go to the monster retailers to try things out, and if Allegro has them, I buy from them. They always give you the best deal they can and I always get a nice conversation with them
Only thing preventing me from giving them 5 stars is their lack of inventory, but that is understandable since they are a family owned mom and pop store.
Nonetheless, this is where I take my GAS money as long as they have it in inventory.
