Chilton is a family-​owned, Maine company dedicated to selling fine, wood furniture, all American-​made. We are known for our Shaker-​inspired designs, and also feature Arts & Crafts, modern and cottage style pieces in solid cherry, maple, ash, walnut, and quarter-​sawn oak. We are also known for the quality craftsmanship of our custom work. Many of our pieces can be custom built to your specifications.

Much of our furniture is handcrafted in small Maine workshops, and we also work with boutique craftsmen in New Hampshire, Vermont and the Midwest, many of whom have been partners for decades. All of these cabinetmakers have a Shaker-​like dedication to workmanship, function, and simplicity of line and form. All of Chilton’s pieces are built to our high standards, and a growing number are original, proprietary designs.

History

Established in 1865.

Chilton is a family-​owned company dedicated to selling fine, American-​made wood furniture at excellent prices. Originally established in 1865 as the Chilton Paint Company, Chilton began selling furniture in 1970. We hold classic Shaker design in the highest esteem, and specialize in Shaker-​inspired cherry.

Much of our furniture, including all of our custom-​made pieces, is handcrafted in a small Maine factory with Shaker-​like dedication to workmanship, function and simplicity of line and form. We also work with other boutique craftsmen throughout Maine, as well as selected craftsmen from New England and the Midwest. All of our furniture is made in America.

In September 2014, new owners Jennifer and Jared Levin acquired Chilton from Bill and Susan Martens, who owned and managed Chilton for nearly five decades after acquiring the business from Bill’s father.

Jen and Jared Levin met at Columbia Law School in 1994 and were married in 1997. Jared works in finance and Jen is a former corporate attorney who retired from practice to raise their three daughters, now four, seven, and ten. With the girls in school, Jen was ready to start a new career as an entrepreneur. After a search for businesses for sale in Maine, Chilton Furniture was at the top of the list.
