We just moved in the area and it is always so hard to find a reputable place to take your car. Our daughter has a Volvo, so when it was due to have scheduled maintenance, we called several places and went with the cheapest quote, which was University Auto. They were extremely nice, and they charged us exactly what was quoted. A couple of months later, our daughter’s car was acting up so we called and made an appointment for the very next day. They kept the car for two days, ran numerous diagnostics and concluded there was nothing wrong with the car. When we went to pick it up, they charged us $ 0.00, yep… nada! They spent all that time and just had us pick it up at no cost, who does that these days???
A few days ago, my suburban wouldn’t start and I was convinced it was the starter because the last time I was at Wal-​Mart I had them check the battery and they said it checked out «great»! I called Jenny to see if they worked on domestic cars and she said they worked on anything, so I brought it in. I told her that I thought it was the starter because my battery was good. They spent the day with my suburban and that evening when I called to check on it, they told me they checked the starter, the alternator and ran diagnostics and couldn’t find anything wrong with it… so they checked the battery just in case. The battery only read at 75%, which is good but they charged the battery completely and that seemed to be the trick. These folks had two opportunities to charge me for nothing, but they did not. They are upstanding people and deserve 5 stars!!! Fair and professional!

These guys are great. Very upfront, very open, very good. Recently, I had my air conditioning go on my Volvo. A new part was several hundred dollars. They found me a used part in excellent condition and fixed my car for a lot less money.
The mechanics are thorough, friendly and will let you know if something is worth fixing or if it’s something that can wait. The owners are some fine people. Go here!

This is the place to go if you own a Volvo! I originally drive up from Germantown on the recommendation of a co-​worker who also has their car worked on at Univ Auto. I am still driving up to Frederick, but now from Gaithersburg. It is a small shop that also sells used Volvos. Best to call ahead to make sure you can get in. You can rent a Volvo for the day for $ 20+ tax to drive around town while your car is being worked on although there are some shops in the area which you can walk to. Everyone in the office goes out of their way to help out. Last time I was there, the owner dropped me off at a breakfast place just down the road (Double T). I don’t ever feel that I am getting screwed or having work done that isn’t needed. Les, the mechanic, is straight up. He has always answered my questions no matter how dumb. It is good to find a good, honest mechanic for my old Volvo.
