I called three different flooring companies for quotes and to shop around. From the beginning, Peterson was the only company that was easy to work with. Teresa was a pleasure to work with and had no problem coming to our house several times to show us different samples and ideas. The crew that came out during installation was top notch. Miguel was very detailed and did an outstanding job. The floors came out awesome. I’ll be using Peterson again.

Let me start by saying I am a tough one to please and I believe that my hard earned dollars should go towards high quality products and services. And if the rules were you can only write one review ever, then this would be the one. I had the pleasure of working with Petersen’s Carpet and Flooring on numerous occasions now and can say, without hesitation, they stand above all else. My husband and I are informed consumers, we do our homework.
Let’s start with the most recent experience with Sarah, who didn’t take long to put us at ease. She provided, in our eyes, just the right amount of information and guidance as we looked at everything there was to offer. She instinctively gave us the space we needed. She is a gem.
Between Terri and Sarah, they kept us well informed about the ordering of samples to product availability to installation dates.
Then on to the crew who installed the hardwood and carpeting. Chad and Mark arrived and again, we quickly were at ease. Their wittiness was a lot of fun but above all else, their work was superior. They respected our space, were meticulous about their work, and left things just as they found them.
Next, we had a manufacturer’s defect to deal with and while it’s not an «ideal» situation, it happens. That’s when Gayle stepped in. And If anyone wanted to make it right, it was Gayle. And she did.
AND that shows, in totality, a great business.

After we decided to replace our disgusting 25 yr old carpet with hardwood, we started shopping. Lowes, Home Depot were the first stops but ultimately we decided it was important to support our local small businesses, so we headed to Petersen’s. Paul, our salesman was wonderful. He gave us many different options and gave me the pros and cons. My only complaint would be that the color I chose really shows the dirt and I have to clean it frequently. Never having had hardwood, that would have been good to know.
One thing I really liked was that the wood was delivered a week prior to installation so it would adjust to the humidity and temperature of the house.
Installers were wonderful and did a great job.
All in all, a good experience.

I would definitely recommend Petersen’s Carpet and Flooring to anyone looking for new flooring. They installed vinyl tile, carpet and sheet vinyl and even replaced a section of damaged carpet. The installers did a wonderful job and Debbie in the showroom worked with me to pick out the best flooring for my situation. She had great advice all along the way! We just had new carpet installed on our entire 2^nd floor. The people we worked with in the showroom were so nice and professional. We were extremely happy with the install, the guys were so nice and careful with our furniture when moving it. Overall this was a great experience and I feel like I have a new house the carpet is so beautiful! I would definitely recommend this company.

Petersen’s has ended up replacing all of the carpeting in my house. They have a great selection, along with maticulous installers, and great prices. I’ve been a loyal customer for 10 years now. I love supporting local businesses~especially ones with such great customer service!

Just had bedroom carpet and bathroom vinyl installed. Very satisfied with the co overall. Professional installers were on time and cleaned up. Need carpet? Go to Petersens!

we did all our research and homework to determine the best flooring we should install in our medium sized kitchen. we went to at least 4 different local flooring establishments and looked and brought home samples etc… did our consumer’s report and BBB research. we are very particular and know what we want.
we decided on luxury vinyl tile.
the salesperson at Petersen’s was very knowledgeable, straightforward and no high pressure sales or BS. we selected the style and the old 2 floor were torn out and the new tiles installed all in one day. The floor looks fabulous. He assured us that all the materials were to be on time and they were. the day the job was stared, he dropped by and that is greatly appreciated. when we had a question later that day, he readily answered our query.
we will go back to Petersens in the future.
I don’t know what happened with the other review that slammed Petersens, but our experience was a total breath of fresh air…

Not recommended. I had a kitchen retiled and wood floors refinished by them. The workers were kind and knowledgeable, but in all other aspects, I found the process painful.
Getting the measurements and quote was fairly easy. The kitchen was straightforward; I had a few questions about whether some areas of the wood floor would have to be replaced. I was told they could be fixed by refinishing.
Once a deposit was paid, I had to reach out to their staff multiple times to get my kitchen-​flooring job, and then wood floor refinishing scheduled. I had to call to get the kitchen scheduled, as they did not, as was the same with the refinishing. When I finally got them to schedule the refinishing, I was simply told a date they’d start without any input. I had repeatedly told the scheduling staff I could not do Tuesdays, and when I finally heard back about my wood floor-​refinishing job, she wanted to start it on a Tuesday. When I reminded her about the fact Tuesdays are difficult for me, I was told she had no idea when it could be done if I didn’t allow them to start on the Tuesday. I had to cancel my attendance at a company meeting to deal with floor refinishers.
The kitchen job went fairly in fairly smoothly after the start. For both the kitchen and the refinishing, I had paid for furniture/​appliance moving. I had to help the kitchen installer because he could not do it himself, and they had sent him alone. I was told I would receive a 50% refund for the moving fee for the kitchen, as I had to do the work of another workman. It’s been over six months, and I still haven’t received it. I think it’s safe to say I won’t!
I believe the refinishers are just subcontractors, as they came from quite far away, but I am not certain. When they arrived, the refinishers had been given seemingly zero knowledge of the job besides the basics. They saw my floor and immediately said «you need a floor man to come in here first and fix this first.» Turns out the sections of flooring I had inquired on the need for replacement did, in fact, need to be replaced. So, immediately, my quote went up $ 325 to fix this. When I stated to the saleswoman that I felt mislead as I had specifically asked about the areas and was told they would not need to be replaced, her response was «Don’t go there, you don’t want to go there.»
The floor refinishers had no idea they were supposed to help move some stuff, and refused to move some shelving units, and other items. They did move a couch and mattress set. I was told they couldn’t move the shelves because they were «personal items». I never was told of any parameters on what they would move or not. I had to take nearly a day off to move stuff out frantically, and pay for a trailer rental to store everything in. That added several hundred dollars to the cost, on top of that, is thought that I essentially paid them over $ 200 in order for me to move most of the stuff for them. It’s been over six months, and I still haven’t received that 50% refund.
The wood-​refinishing job was not completely finished, either. Shoe molding was partially installed when they left for good. They left enough scrap for me to install it myself, thankfully. What was installed did not appear to be coated with «2 coats» as I had paid for.
After the fact, I found out there were many more options that homeowners are traditionally given in floor refinishing that I had not been given. I never was informed their were choices on the finish of sealant.
What the refinishers did finish looked good, though, I would be hesitant to use them as they dangerously wired the sanding equipment to my home’s 240-​volt outlet by jamming the bare wires into it. An adapter for three-​prong 240-​volt outlets was not used, as should be for safety. Many people do this, but a quick search will show you this is unsafe and unprofessional.
Unfortunately, I do not see a way to upload pictures here, or I would post documentation of the aforementioned issues.
Overall, I feel I did not receive the service and care I paid for. It was a big mistake using them. In hindsight, I think I’d just find some handy man with spare time. They’d cost half the price and probably still be comparable. I spent over $ 5000, and I feel I did not receive the appropriate customer service that a bill that large deserves.
I will not use Petersen’s Carpet and Flooring again.

They bent over backwards to accomodate our rather unhelpful tenants and install carpeting throughout the house. They did a terrific job and their installers were extremely professional and nice. We will use them again!

I had the experience to work with the team at Petersen’s on a small re-​carpeting of a room in our nearly 100-​year old home. The team was courteous, consultative, and professional from one end of the process (e.g., email reply to web site request) to final install and follow-​up to ensure my satisfaction. They also delivered a quality product, quality service, and in a 2-​day turnaround, which was critical to me (so they worked their schedules to help me out).
All in all, I am a huge fan of doing business with local businesses that support the community. The team, notably Gayle, talked me through how important that is to them and how they consistently invest in the greater Frederick area (e.g., my daughter’s school). This sealed the deal — and hope that this review helps others make the same choice. Gayle was the embodiment of a local family business owner that I am happy to support — both with this project and others.

Great customer service, ordering was a breeze, fast, professional installers. Second time in about 5 years doing business with them pleased both times!

The owner, Gayle wrote a comment as you can see below. Our feelings remain unchanged from our original post. I appreciate her request to call and discuss, but I really don’t have any more time to spend having them try to defend their customer service. If it is such a concern, it should’ve been addressed when we had the carpet installed. Below is my response to her:
I’m not sure what you mean by «especially after so long…2009». Are you saying the review that you’re just seeing took place so long ago? I’m assuming so. I was actually new to Unilocal in 2009, but the carpet install took place in 2005. At that time one of the managers even had to come out to see if the claims we were making were true. That was really the last straw — why would we lie about new carpet? I think I even have notes still that I took during our experience and may have names jotted down.
At the time of post (due to posting four years later), we felt/​still feel so strongly about our experience with Petersen’s that we still would unfortunately not recommend anyone. We were so dissatisfied and angered over the poor carpet install that still to this day is not satisfactory… even writing about it at this moment makes my blood pressure rise.
