Wayne’s World Canoeing & Tubing

The experience here was a little different than I was expecting. I went with my partner, whose family lives in the area. He wasn’t too thrilled about going (I found out later) but had a good time once we were there; if he had told me what he thought the trip was going to be like, I probably wouldn’t have wanted to go.
I thought a bunch of hippie nature lovers would be tubing around us. What I didn’t know (and my partner did) was that 1. it’s mostly young college kids from New Orleans who go out on the river and 2. the locals are a bunch of rednecks who aren’t big fans of the college kids. So, for a lot of the trip, we were in close proximity to drunk early-​twenty-​something in inner tubes, and we saw more than one Confederate Flag being waved from the riverbank from off-​road vehicles and in the back of private homes.
However, the trip alternated between peaceful and amusing – amusing because we had to dodge fallen debris or find ways to extricate ourselves from it when we weren’t successful.
The big mark against the establishment is that the little food cart was closed but said it was open, so there was some confusion in regards to that from plenty of people. They have plenty of waterproof boxes and even water shoes that people can buy, and at regular intervals along the river are small beaches where tubers can drink and eat the stuff they bring in their coolers. The other noticeable mark against them is that the tubers didn’t even know whether they’d gotten on the two-​hour or four-​hour bus until well into the trip down to the river.
By the end, our four-​hour float seemed to have gone on a little long for our taste, but I’m not sure we would have felt like we’d gotten our money’s worth with the two hour float. My partner enjoyed himself, so all was good.

A couple of weekends ago, some friends and I came here for tubing. They are frequent visitors to this place. This is my first tubing experience in at least 20 years. The river was wide and slow. I was pretty nervous about water moccasins. Did I mention that it was SLOW? A four hour tour? Only if your feet can reach the water over the tube (I am 5′ tall on a good day, and therefore had NO control over increasing my speed). One of my friends finally waited on me and tied me to their tube. This experience lasted almost six and a half hours. Did I mention that there was next to no current? The first two hours were relaxing. By the end, I was wanting to get out and walk.
Granted, the only other times that I have gone tubing, the river (not in Louisiana) was more narrow, and the current was quite fast. You were able to go several times down the river in one day.

During the brutal South Louisiana summer there are few things better than taking a dip in water to cool off. Even better is doing this while drifting down a river in a tub with an ice chest and a handful of your best friends.
Tubing is cheap, relaxed, and best of all fun. Wayne’s World has probably the best path down the river in the area. So here’s how it works: you show up and pay a rental fee for a tube, including one for your ice chest. You did bring an ice chest full of refreshing drinks (but no glass), right? You get on a buss that takes you up the river to a launch point where you pick out your tube and then get in the water. You drift down the river for a couple of hours, relaxing and having fun. Maybe you stop at one of several sandbars to have lunch or take a break from the river. Eventually you drift back past Wayne’s World where they help you out of the river and collect the tube.
I look forward every year to summer when I can round up my friends and spend an afternoon on a river.

Finally made it back to Wayne’s World over labor day weekend to find it was under new management. Fine with me because the new staff/​owners were great. I (very stupidly) locked my keys in my car after i got changed but the staff figured out how to open my car with a slim jim and saved me from a loooong and expensive wait for a tow/​professional. For some reason it was very quiet over the holiday weekend (LSU football game?) so we got a ride to the drop off in a pick up that was occupied by an adorable puppy — always a plus. The river was great and a good time was had by all.

Do you love nature but are also extremely lazy? Like drinking beer from a can and liquor from a squirt bottle? Most importantly, can you swim? Then you have what it takes to go tubing!
As a Texan, I love tubing. While this doesn’t compare to the Guadalupe or Comal in the Texas Hill Country, the Bogue Chitto is still a lot of fun.
For the un-​initiated here is what you do:
–Load up a cooler and gather some friends. Make sure you have water and not just booze. Throw in a gallon ziplock to put anything you need to keep dry.
–When you park, go ahead and leave your clothes and towels in the car. You won’t need them til your done. You can check your keys with them.
–Make sure to get a tube for your cooler, it’s worth the couple dollars. If you wear flip flops you can toss them in here while you float.
–Once you’re paid up you’ll jump on a junky old school bus and drive up river. They’ll drop you off to float back.
The bus drive is by far my least favorite part. For some reason toolbags feel really empowered to let their inner obnoxious racist loose on these buses. Try not to let it ruin your time. Take comfort in the fact that you are you and they are morons.
The trip is a few hours, depending on how many times you stop along the way. There are some rocky beaches that are fun to hang out at. It is nice to take a break from the old ball and chain that is your tube. Maybe snack on some Cool Ranch Doritos? You did bring Cool Ranch Doritos, didn’t you?
More than anything just sit back, relax and have a good time. Keep an eye on your friends and stay in control yourself. Nothing can kill a party quicker than a good old fashioned drowning.
I’m not sure exactly why you’re safe from alligators, but apparently you are. Our crazy barely in control bus driver said so. I’ve never seen a gator or a snake.
Side note: Bogue Chitto Canoeing and Tubing in Bogalusa is a little less wild. For some reason they aren’t on Unilocal and their website is a little hard to find. I think this makes it quieter and less crowded. If you are not interested in meeting people or you have a more low key group, it might be a better option.

Always a great time at Wayne’s World! Great event for a group of friends, get to flow down the river and stop at the beaches for snacks and drinks. They are cash only so remember to bring cash when going there! Not a bad idea to bring rope or things to tie you and your friends in a big group. We all huddled around each other this past weekend and it was a blast!

This is the best of ALL the tubing companies in the area. I love tubing with Wayne’s World! The staff is friendly and helpful. It is always a pleasurable trip! Just went the first time of the year on Saturday and plan to be back many times! I also recommend renting a cabin down the road at Berry Creek cabins. A perfect combination for a weekend trip!

Not a fan. To my knowledge, there are two different companies that do tubing trips, and my friends and I traditionally go with the other one. (Of course, I can’t remember their name).
My big complaint about these dudes is they’ve got some old man patrolling the river in a motorboat, evidently looking for people who have gotten cold and decided to ride in the cooler tubes, which are more like inflatable rafts than actual tubes, because you can get inside them and not have to touch the water anymore. That is, until you get caught. Then you’ll get yelled at and will have boat guy checking in on you for the remainder of your trip.
Tubing is awesome. Wayne’s World, not so much. Go with the other company. It’s essentially the same thing.

Wayne’s World is very organized and their staff are friendly and helpful. Their prices are almost double the price on Bogue Chitto in Mississippi, but it’s still a super cheap outing. I also find the river to be cleaner with nicer stopping points than the normal trip in the McComb/​Tylertown area. This year we went to Miss., but we plan to go back to Wayne’s World next year. I only wish there were affordable camping or cabins nearby to make a weekend of it.

This weekend was the first time I ever went tubing and as someone from the north, it was a «cultural» experience. Basically, tubing is like a floating picnic with a lot of beer. You buy a raft for yourself and one for your cooler, you take a yellow school bus to the drop off point, and you float down river. You meet some interesting people going down stream. Some were nice country folk who like to talk and listen to CCR and there were annoying, belligerent young adults.
Overall, it was nice, relaxing, and a great way to hang out with friends and drink.

This place is FREAKIN’ AWESOME! For a lazy river, booze cruise to beat the southern summer heat, Wayne’s World is the place to go. Just over an hour’s drive from New Orleans and the trip is well worth it.
While I must say that I prefer the free river floats in my old home of Montana, the convenience of not having to drive a car to the put in/​take out or strap tubes to the roof of your car is worth the $ 15. For an additional $ 5, you can rent a cooler raft. Yes, you read correct, an actual inflatable boat, not an inner tube you have to search for to fit your cooler just perfectly. How cool is that?!
There are no exciting rapids, but lots of sandy beach stops with trash cans, peaceful sounds of nature, friendly people and refreshing good times for people of all ages.
