I just couldn’t love it as much as I wanted to. The location is great, at the site that was a McDougal’s I frequented. Plenty of room, plenty of parking, nice digs inside. I had the catfish and fried chicken combo with fries. Both were ok, but more of the flavor you would expect to get at say a gas station deli, not at a restaurant, and certainly not worth the price. Staff was friendly enough, place was clean. They do have lunch specials that might be worth trying, but on the weekend(I went on a Sunday), the price and the quality just don’t match. I’ve eaten at a Bud’s before, the one on Hwy 31 just south of downtown Franklin. It’s been a while, and I probably would have given that one 3 stars, but the fact that I haven’t been back in over a year to that first one tells me that they were probably the same.

Franklin Tennessee is a wonderful city that is full of fantastic food options… this, however, is not one of them. I ordered the shrimp & sausage boil which came with potatoes, slaw, corn on the cob & mac & cheese(I ordered this extra). The shrimp were peel & eat shrimp & had a very«fishy» taste, this coupled with the lack of seasoning made for a bland & unappetizing shrimp entrée. I ate the sausage in two bites, pathetic, if you would have told me it was half of a steamed hot dog, I would have believed you(note I have had better hot dogs than their sausage). The potatoes were so undercooked that they were uneatable. The corn was obviously straight out of a bag & the mac & cheese tasted like I was eating a block of velveeta. My mother also ate with me; her baked potato looked like it was re-heated in a microwave 5+ times and her slaw was room temperature… yuck. I hate to write these rambling complaining Unilocal reviews, but I do feel it it necessary on occasion. They did, however, do a few things right… the service was polite, fast & efficient. The atmosphere was very family friendly & relaxed(which I liked) & was very clean. The fried green tomatoes(served as an appetizer) were by far the best fried green tomatoes I have ever had, that is really something as I consider myself a fried green tomato connoisseur; the cajun sauce they came with was delicious as well. In short, don’t expect much from the food, service is good, atmosphere is good and the fried green tomatoes are the best I have ever had.
