Studio One Twenty

I unfortunately need to write a negative review of this establishment, because in my short experience there I felt that they lacked basic courtesy and professionalism.
I was scheduled for a basic haircut on the one day I was able to leave work a little early, before a meeting a little later. I arrived too early to the appointment (about 30 minutes early) but I decided to check if they had anyone available early. The receptionist seemed stressed. She told me there was no chance I would be seen early, and in fact my stylist would likely be 5 minutes late. The stylist came over, frowning, and confirmed this with the receptionist — she did not speak to me. They weren’t friendly about it, but that was fine, I understand stressful days, so I went next door to TJ Maxx to pass the time.
I came back at the time of my appointment. Someone greeted me, asked my name, and said they would tell the stylist I was there. I saw her walk over and speak to my stylist. The stylist glanced briefly at me, then went back to the hi-​lights she was working on. Minutes passed; I was prepared for a 5 minute wait, and no one came to tell me that it would be a bit more than that. I saw my stylist glance over at me a few times, but she never came to speak to me. Watching her more, I began to realize she was nowhere close to being done with her current client. Even after 20 more minutes passed, no one came over to give me an update, even though multiple other employees were milling around close by chatting.
I finally got up to ask the receptionist for an update. She went to check with my stylist, and then came back and told me it would be at least another 20 minutes, and maybe more. She did throw in a «sorry» but her tone and body language were non-​apologetic, and despite the fact that my stylist was going to be about 45 minutes late on my appointment, there were no offers to reschedule, make it up to me, etc. The stylist herself never said a word to me. When I told the receptionist I wouldn’t be able to stay for my appointment, she just said «okay» and offered no further questions about rescheduling.
I understand that some days are stressful and schedules get busy. But that does not excuse unprofessionalism or discourtesy. If the stylist or receptionist knew when I arrived at my appointment time that it would now be 40+ minutes until I could be seen, they should have informed me immediately of this. I should not have been told originally that it might be a 5 minute delay, and then never updated with a more accurate timeframe. And the stylist herself should have taken the 30 seconds necessary to come over and say hello, apologize, ask if it was okay that there would be a wait, or if I needed to reschedule. As it was, she never said a word to me. I wasted almost an hour of my day, and staff did not seem to care at all that they were inconveniencing me. The quick «sorry» with a shrug from the receptionist was the extent of their courtesy. That was the only day last month I was able to to take the time to leave work early for a haircut, and I wasted it on this non-​appointment.
Perhaps the employees here are more considerate of their regular customers, but everyone has to have a first appointment. I might have been a regular customer if I had had the opportunity, but as it is I will not be returning, and will advise others looking for a new salon in Franklin about my experiences at Studio One Twenty.

Studio one twenty is the best place to get your hair done… its classy and laid back. they play music from back in the day when music was good… takes you back to the good days… they offer wine or other beverages… Marilyn is the BEST! she makes you feel beautiful and truly listens to what you want! if there is something you are not happy with she is easy to talk to and will fix it in a heartbeat. she is down to earth and so sweet… she is up to speed on all the latest styles and products that are good for keeping your hair healthy… She has been doing my hair for the past 2 years… she’s the best ask for her I promise you won’t be disappointed! !!

I ended up having a bad experience. I came for a blowout, i was scheduled with Adam. I had a pretty important event the next morning and requested a blowout straight with a little curl. I have had a lot of blowouts and I do have pretty curly hair. With that said, I have never seen anyone not use a tool (hair brush) to blow dry the hair. Adam did not use a brush of any kind to blow straight. He used his fingers and then after the hair was fully dry used a curling iron. I had some concerns, which I expressed. To be truthful, at the end of the service it did look OK. It felt a little crunchy to the touch but looked OK. That lasted for about an hour. This is unusual for me (5 days of perfect is the norm for me). I went home and tried to flat iron a little bit, to no avail. I called back twice but couldn’t reach him directly. I ended up at another salon to have it fixed. My hair now looks like it should have yesterday. :(in my opinion blowout=use a brush of some kind to straighten. Not-​dry it with your fingers then use a curling iron. For my curly hair-​this method was just a disaster. I gave them 2 stars instead if 1 bc the staff seemed nice.

I’m breaking away from my tradition of reviewing only local restaurants or coffee shops because my experience here was just that good. Stan the owner took care of me and broke the long line of disappointment i’ve experienced with every other hair cut in my life. He gave me one of the best cuts in my LIFE. My hair is extremely thick and long and I came in with a picture of a textured short bob and he NAILED it. I have never felt this beautiful and can not wait to go back. The layers are perfect and visible. Not too mention the price point is great too, I walk away at only $ 42 before his much deserved tip

I have been to Lulu four times in the past year, and she has done a fantastic job every time. And the prices are reasonable. It is not a frou-​frou place, very unpretentious, so if you want to pay a lot to get the extras, go elsewhere. If you like ordinary people, good service, and a flattering cut, I recommend Lulu.

I have extremely thick and long hair. Its passes the derrière. Many say I’m blessed but it’s actually quite the opposite in terms of maintenance. I don’t go in for coloring because it would cost an entire paycheck so really I’m limited with what I can do and keep it natural.
Most stylist hate to see me come in because it’s a workout so I usually only make it in once a year.
I wanted a trim, yes just a trim, and layers because the weight was giving me a drag look and pulling on my scalp.
Stanley was the lucky stylist getting an extra morning workout. First struggle, he had trouble washing my hair because my hair was blocking the drain. Next, combing through such thick wavy long hair takes a while. He was concerned we couldn’t layer because it requires constant combing and my hair kept locking up. Most stylist don’t even try and tell me no but Stanley was willing to give it a go.
The longest part cut was approximately 13 inches with 5 inches on the shortest for layers.
I give the 4 stars because I returned with my daughter who has textured curly hair and the cut was quite horrible which ended us going to another place to get it fixed. It was a different stylist but I prefer honesty, tell me you can’t or are not familiar.

I’m highly disappointed. Stanley the co-​owner is the one that messed up my hair. Completely missed blonde pieces in my hair… (Dying it to a brown with red ombré like ends)
Didn’t even remotely give me what I asked for and left me under the dryer entirely to long (45 minutes). He started cutting someones hair while I was under the dryer which is why I think he left me there for so long. I’m 23 and I’ve been having my hair done for the last 10 years and my hair has never rejected color.
Before leaving he advised me that he had missed blonde pieces but at that point I had already been there for three going on four hours. He said that I could come back at any time and he would fix it… However the next day when I woke up I was having breathing issues and couldn’t figure out what was causing it.
My mother said that she could smell chemicals. At which point I took a shower because I was worried that there were still chemicals/​dye left in my hair. The water was literally black from how much dye was left in my hair… It took two shampoos/​two conditioners and my hair still won’t rinse out clean.
Upon calling studio one twenty today Stanley advised me that he would not give me a refund and honestly was extremely unprofessional. Told me that there was no way I had dye left in my hair and that I was wrong. I have pictures and a witness.
I’ve never been so unsatisfied with my hair in my entire life. I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
I won’t be going back to have him fix it because I’m afraid to. Please don’t let this happen to you and go somewhere else.
I don’t recommend going to this establishment to anyone.

I’ve never left a review before, but my experience was so not good that I feel compelled to say something. I have been a fairly happy client of Studio 120 for about six months. My regular stylist called out sick on the day of my appointment, but I was assured by the receptionist that someone would be available to cut and color my hair anyway and that my stylist would brief them on what I usually had done.
When I arrived the stylist that had been assigned to me (which turned out to be one of the owners) was totally unprepared. My stylist hadn’t given him my color formula or any information about my haircut so he decided to wing it. I assumed since he was the owner, he would know what to do. What a disaster! He was unable to match my usual color, and after trying for almost 2.5 hours to come even close, we decided to give up on it and move on to the haircut. Because the color had taken so long, and he needed to leave to pick up a family member, he totally rushed the haircut. Once I got home I realized that it was completely uneven and parts of it were cut super short while other parts weren’t even cut.
I don’t think I’ll be headed back to Studio 120 any time soon. I never did hear from my regular stylist to apologize for the situation, and if the owner does a bad job, who’s left to talk to about it?

Finally a place that doesn’t make you feel like you aren’t cool enough to be there if you aren’t a young Barbie doll. Real people that do a great job! They really made me feel comfortable and welcome. Marilyn did an amazing job with my naturally curly hair and she was sweet and genuine, too. Great place. Highly recommended.

I LOVE Studio One Twenty! I’ve lived in several big cities — NYC, Boston, San Francisco, and Austin — so I have gone to my fair share of salons. And Studio One Twenty is my favorite! Everything about the salon — from the down-​to-​earth, fun, and friendly vibe to the über-​talented and hard-​working stylists — makes it top-​notch. I’ve been going to Shawna for color and cut for months, and she nails it every time. Again, the salon is wonderful, and you should definitely give it a try!

I had an appointment today with Stan for a haircut. The receptionist was nice and the stylist was too. That’s about all that was good.
Everything about this place was straight up 80’s and 90’s. The salon had these celebrity paintings in black and white like someone ripped off Andy Warhol. They were playing Casey Kasem’s top 40. Why would you not play Pandora?
Overall, this was the worst experience I’ve ever had at a salon. Stan assumed that I wanted 2 inches cut off my hair. No, just the split ends. Then he takes me back to shampoo. It was awful. He was so rough! Most stylists are gentle and give a little head and neck massage. He didn’t put a towel or anything around my shoulders so my shirt was soaking wet!
We get back to his station and I notice how filthy it is. There was hair everywhere! I saw a hairball in the corner. Instead of sweeping properly he just blasted the hair dryer over it. I was about ready to leave. I almost told him to just forget it. I started to get a really bad feeling.
He puts something on my hair and then starts brushing it out. He never told me what products he was using. He also brushed my wet hair a plastic bristled brush instead of taking a wide tooth comb to it. My hair is very fine and you have be really gentle with it or it will break.
Then he tells me to stand up to cut my hair. I told him that I’ve never had a stylist do that. He explained that it makes sense because people sit differently. What?! I had to stand at the back of the chair and look left and right while he cut. At this time I’m praying that he knows what he’s doing. I had no confidence in him whatsoever.
I sit back down and he cuts the front a little bit. With my wet hair hanging in my face he says he’s done and asks me if I want to dry it. Um, yeah,. Like I’m going to leave the salon with soaking wet hair. The job is half done and he wants to send me on my way.
He started to blow dry and I think OK he can’t be bad at this. Wrong. The hair dryer was too hot and started to burn my ears. He put Paul Mitchell mousse on my hair. Who still uses mousse and why was he using Paul Mitchell? One of the reasons I chose this salon was because they use Pureology. I’m so confused by this. I hated the way it smelled.
I practically ran out of that salon and will never return. I’ve never had my hair feel DRYER after a visit to the salon. As soon as I got home, I took a shower to get the smell out.

I have an excellent experience every time I go here and always leave with exactly what I want and ask for. Hands down the friendliest salon I’ve ever been to. The majority of the staff have worked together for years and they really make you feel like you’re with friends and family while you’re there. Would highly recommend this salon for any service you need.

I tried Studio One Twenty on a recommendation of a friend. I am very particular about my hair so I was nervous trying someone new. Not disappointed! Amber listened to what I wanted, made recommendations on how to tweak the picture I brought in to work best for me. Very comfortable salon with very friendly staff.

I have fine, naturally curly hair, which anyone who has curly hair knows it is a blessing and a curse. So, when I learned Lulu had naturally curly hair I knew I’d found my «person». Lulu listened to what I wanted then went to town on it, chatting happily the whole time. It was a great cut and I thoroughly enjoyed her bubbly personality. Thanks Lulu!

I’ve been seeing LuLu for about a year and I so happy with my cut and color each time. She is very smart about what will work and look best on me. All the staff seem really great. A nice find in the Cool Springs area.

Let me start by saying I’m an incredibly hard-​to-​please individual when it comes to my hair. I have long, fine hair, but it’s also super thick. So, whomever is cutting my hair has to take their time or it can look like a disaster.
The reason I was looking for a new hair stylist was because I had just transferred home after going away to school and my old hair stylist at another salon had moved.
That being said I absolutely love Studio One Twenty, and Erin, who is the person who cut and styled my hair. It looks fabulous, and she took the time to help me figure out an easy way to style it. She also showed me how to help lock in my volume, and, without being pushy, showed me some shampoo and conditioner that would do the job in my hair without leaving a waxy feel and a build up in my hair. She also told me to get my money’s worth and use all the shampoo and conditioner I had left and then, when I come back to get highlights for the summer put in, in a few weeks, to check out the products offered.
I really enjoyed Erin and the way she knew put layers in the back of my hair to give it shape (it’s fine so it seems to always fall flat) and the knowledge she showed.
I would recommend Studio One Twenty to anyone, and with a shampoo, cut, blow-​dry, and style only $ 40, it’s a $ 10-​$ 20 dollar minimum difference for the same high quality of other salons.

I met my stylist a few years ago after getting the worst haircut of my life. See, I was trying to save a few dollars and went to a place that was offering a ‘cheap’ haircut. It was cheap alright. I had NEVER had my hair looks so bad. So, I called one of those salons in the mall and asked if there was any way they could fit me in ASAP. The woman on the other side was so friendly and pleasant sounding and told me she’d fix me up — just to come on down and they’d fit me in. So, I drove down to Cool Springs and meeting my stylist, Lulu, and she did fix my hair. I was eternally grateful and I’ve been using her every since.
Well, she decided she wanted to branch out and move to a smaller, non-​chain salon. She told me to visit her at her new place, Salon One Twenty. So, I have been going to Studio One Twenty for over a year now and I have to say I pretty much love it! Not only is it a nice salon — but parking is super easy! There is a parking lot right out front and I don’t have to make a long trek through a huge mall just to get my hair cut.
But more than just location and ease of parking — its located near some of my favorite stores (not in a mall)…Bed Bath and Beyond and TJ Maxx! So, if she’s ever running behind or I’m super early — I just pop in one of those stores for some quick shopping.
This salon does a few cool things that other salons I’ve been to don’t. One is they have a local art school put up artwork in the salon. All of which is for sale. I think its great that they are using local art and not generic, off the shelf art. Or simply pictures of hair or something. The artwork is fresh and new and always a topic of conversation.
I also like that they have a lot of services available. From the normal cut and color to manicures and pedicures. I guess most salons have those services — but, again — I was going to a mall chain salon for a long time and they never had those services available in the salon itself.
Lulu is a perfectionist (which I love). She makes sure she washes my hair after the cut and then looks over my hair again to check for any missed long hairs. She knows just how I like my hair and we always have great conversations. She can usually fit me in whenever I need a haircut. My schedule is pretty hectic so I usually can’t make appointments really far in advance because I have no idea what I’ll be doing or when I’ll be doing it… But she’s always been very accommodating to my schedule and working me in somehow.
I can’t vouch for all the people at Studio One Twenty… But I can say I haven’t seen much turnover there — so, they must be happy! The place is always busy so they must have good business there.
I think you’ll like it too. Its easy to access from the interstate (Cool Spring Blvd West — just off I-​65), the parking is convenient, they have some great stylists and lots of services and tons of great products. Personally I use Maneuver by Redken from the men’s line — which can be hard to find! They always stock it which makes my search a little easier.
