My Second Home Pet Resort

Our dog Olie has stayed here 3 times for boarding and grooming. After boarding, we pay to have him groomed. He always comes out so clean with a shiny coat and great cut. Other places have shaved him when I specifically said not to. The groomers here really listen to how you would like your pet groomed. His nails are cut and filed perfectly. However, I do not take him here for grooming on a regular basis because of their early drop off policy for grooming. A real negative for me.
Boarding is okay and dogs do spend the majority of the day in their crates unless you pay for a little extra outside time. The add ons really add up quickly here.
Olie loves to play with other dogs, is very social, and being in a crate most of the day is depressing for him. Thus for boarding, Olie goes to another business in Brentwood that is for friendly, social dogs in a no crate during the day, dog park oriented facility.
Our cat, Cleo still goes to Second Home and it works great for her.

Very disappointing experience – and I won’t be back.
Upon dropping off my dog for a roughly 10 day stay, I was told I could not walk her down to her space, or see where she would be staying. Strike One. Any dog owner will tell you this is simply unacceptable. I can’t see where I am paying you to keep her?
A few minutes later as I was checking her in, the front desk staff (teens dressed a bit strangely in cummerbunds) were constantly trying to upgrade her stay by selling me various extras ($$$). Strike Two. They were relentless, «don’t you want her to have X, Y and Z while she is here». No, I didn’t. Maybe they work on commission or something? Less cummerbunds, and more common sense needed at desk.
The biggest issue was this. My dog had a partial ACL tear about 8 months before boarding her. I paid them to keep her in her own kennel, and have individual walks/​potty breaks so she did not attempt to play with other dogs and run the risk of re-​injuring her leg. Not even a day after drop off, they called my cell to tell me she had tweaked her leg – and were very uncertain about how it had happened. Finally it was explained that she was let out with the other dogs to go to the bathroom, had played and injured herself. This was exactly the scenario I did not want and was paying to avoid. A HUGE STRIKE THREE. They couldn’t even follow basic instructions. Thankfully after a few weeks her hip got better, and we didn’t need surgery. If your dog has any medical issues, this place seems like it cant be trusted.
I will say that they refunded my entire stay (minus our deposit) when I picked her up without me asking.
Ultimately this place came highly recommended to us, but based on reviews on here and other people I have spoken to, this place has issues. They need to listen more and sell less.

Day 2 of daycare was even better. The staff provided a go-​pro video that was taken while strapped to my dog, so cool, he had a ball! I am very interested to see if his first boarding experience in two weeks goes as well as daycare has so far!

I just moved from out of town, and went in to see this place. I have two large dogs that need a place to go while I’m working. The staff was very unprofessional and incompetent. I will never send my dogs there and I would never recommend them to anyone. Horrible place!

Extremely upset about this facility. I have taken my dog there for grooming and boarding before with really no issues. This time she stayed for 5 days and I left specific instructions to only give her water when she is being taken out which was three times and I paid for an extra late night walk which makes 4 times. When I picked her up her bedding and blankets were soaked in urine which I did not realize until I got home. When I picked her up the employee took her bedding to my car and put in the back seat. This amount of urine had to be from days as I have never seen that amount in her bedding before. It was soaked. I was upset– I trusted this facility to take good care of my dog in my absence. It upsets me that she had to lay in urine. What is also upsetting is that they had to know this as she did not smell. They must of bathed her. When I called to talk to a manager I did not identify myself or my dog and the manager automatically knew who I was. When I said you know you are talking about my dog and I never identified myself. If there was an issue they should have discussed with me before I left and also the report card should have indicated a problem. When I asked for a report card at pickup they looked thru a stack of cards and couldn’t find hers. It sounds to me that she got overlooked. She also came home with a lot of food. I am waiting to hear from the manager as I spoke with her this am. A lot of good that will do. I don’t believe I will be taking my dog back for boarding or for grooming. I am disappointed as I thought I could trust these people to take care of my dog in my absence. Now looking for another facility.
Update: Talked to the co-​owner Chris and I am suppose to get a 50% refund to my account which I have not seen in my account yet. Hopefully soon. Of course he apologized.

After posting a «less than satisfied» review here after 3 grooming visits using Double Take Deals, the owner/​mgr, Chris called me. He was sincerely apologetic. His professionalism and generous offer to rectify the issues was admirable. I intend to do business with this company again.

Everytime I took my dog here for daycare his paws came back cracked and bloodied. He also had a bunch of scratches on his tummy. My dog does play rough so the scratches are pretty normal for him. He is use to playing with other dogs and running around as we take him to dog parks regularly. The cracks and chunks taken out of his paws are not. I think maybe turf is not the best thing to be playing on for 7 hours. Btw my dog weighs 80lb and I had to carry him up the stairs for 2 days after. Also, someone told me once that a worker kicked a dog and didn’t get fired. Ummm. if someone kicked my dog I would be furious, but I’m sure the owner wasn’t told.

when called to ask about boarding, i was afraid to ask if they allowed bully breeds to come to doggy day care and boarding there, and was met with not only a «yes!» but a resounding glee of excitement with tales of one of their favorite dogs being bully breeds and a «staffie» (america staffordshire terrier) (pitt bull) (after his try out day, they said this female staffie took to gnarls immediately and they played and played and played together). when i explained we were in the process of professional training, they reassured me that was okay, and they were accustomed to working with typical puppy behavior. when i started almost crying saying there are different standards for typical puppy behavior for a «non-​bullly breed» puppy then there are for him and «his kind», they again sweetly reassured me they have several bully breeds that come for doggy day care. one of the sweet girls during my tour even pulled out her phone to show me pictures of her bully. i’ve been yelled at – yelled at! in public when all he was doing was sitting at my feet with his tail wagging and tongue hanging out of his mouth being called «irresponsible» for even rescuing him from a shelter, so to have people dote on him and his bread, it brings me tears of joy, seriously. (what kind of jerk yells at a 5’4 woman by herself with her perfectly sitting puppy anyway!)
i work at a preschool and i used to have a real hard time understanding why some mommies have a difficult time just dropping their kids of and going (why the tears!!!), but now, i totally get it, only it’s my fur-​child, not human child.
the hubs and i are going on vacation in may, and were going to have g-​man boarded there, but we wanted to do a try-​out day first (which is free with a $ 5 donation to agape animal rescue). so, on monday, with much sadness, fear and trembling, brought my baby, my love, my g-​man doofus dog in for his first day of doggy daycare. i think i cried on my way to work after i dropped him off. on my lunch break, i called to check on him (there’s even an option for that: when you call, select «option 4» to check on your pet) the lady who spoke with me exclaimed with sincerity how everyone there loves him, and they were just talking about how great of a dog he is! (and i know blowing smoke, teachers have to do it a lot!, and this was sincere, they see my pup for the sweet pup he is, just like i do!). they were so sweet and sincere in their encouragement of how much fun he was having and how great he was. what a sweet balm for my worried heart. they said they even had some great pictures of him in play for me! PICTURES!!! :)
when i arrived to pick him up, they had not only pictures, but a 4 page doggy daycare evaluation for him, everything from dog personality, temperament, to interaction with other dogs. he was superb in all areas. :) and the pictures, ohmy, seriously, they know what doggy mommies need!
also, they allow visitors for your pup when being boarded! a few of my friends are able to go by and visit him/​walk him/​cuddle him on the couch, which helps my worried heart too!
the hubs and i leave tomorrow for our vacation, and while i will miss my buddy, i am completely trusting of the environment he’ll be in and the love an doting he will receive.

I just have to write an update on this place. My dogs have been attending day care here for sometime now, simply because of the location and proximity to work and home. 3 weeks ago they raised the rates for day care about 30%. I can see an increase of 5 or 10% but 30% really???
The customer service in the front continues to be bad. The people that work there need training in soft skills. As in how to look up and greet a customer when they walk in the door. Some of them are just downright rude. Maybe this business will take some of that 30% increase and send the staff to customer service training.
The 2 girls that work in the back, Bev in the morning and a sweet other girl at night are wonderful. That being said, I am looking for an alternative. They really need to step up their game at these prices.

This place sucks… fair and square. Took my pup for daycare around 8am and received a call around 12 pm. He had been attacked by another dog. Puncture wounds in his face, neck and belly. When asked what happened the staff replied (which was the manager/​owner) your dog needs to work better with other animals… I asked about stitches, as he was bleeding, and they said «not to worry about it». I also asked about the other animal that so viciously attacked mine and they shrugged their shoulders as if to say they have better things to do. That animal is still their and may god have mercy on your pets life if it does to yours what it did to mine. We were minutes away from losing our precious son. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE.

This is probably the nicest facility for dog boarding I’ve ever seen. It’s a little like Cracker Barrel — part store, part kennel. The staff was friendly. All runs are inside runs. The booking process can be done online. Vet records can be scanned and emailed. That ability is convenient, but not uncommon in today’s digital world.
It’s a little on the higher end for pricing. Prior to booking a kennel for boarding, I always tour it. My Second Home Pet Resort’s tour consisted of walking me back and down a hallway, and showing me a window I could look through and see runs. Other kennels give a more extensive tour. I would have thought they would show off their facility, instead they seemed to hide it, which was a flag.
While the application/​registration documents are detailed, the information did not appear to be important to them. I have a high prey drive dog. They didn’t know that or anything else on the forms when I went in to board. I took food. It was not used and the change in diet caused the normal digestive problems for a few days afterwards. I emailed asking them if they used their food or mine and got no response. After a late morning pickup, our dogs seemed to not have been out yet, as their bowel and bladder functions were in emergency mode.
Although My Second Home is convenient to those in the Franklin/​Cool Springs area, I would recommend you shop around more and perhaps find a different kennel for any overnight boardings. Daycare, which was clearly a big part of the business, is something I can’t comment about.

The staff was very friendly and answered all of my questions. They didn’t sound annoyed when I called to check on my dog. They gave me a follow up card with a note that stated how my dog did while he was there. That was a plus. I also received a picture of my dog playing which was nice to see since I was a little worried about him.
The prices were a bit high. The bath was not included with the boarding and was an extra almost $ 30.00. In our previous location doggie daycare/​playtime was included in the price of boarding. Not the case here. Everything was charged separately and there are fees for everything.
Other than price being extremely high, the staff was friendly and professional and that was a plus to me.

I had just picked-​up my puppy two weeks before boarding, and was VERY nervous for Jasmine, and filled with anxiety as I was not sure how she adjust being in a brand-​new environment so soon, after rescue. Well, the front desk immediately starting loving on Jasmine and before I knew it I was checked in and Jasmine was running towards the back to be with the other dogs, without saying good-​bye! I left feeling that she was in EXCELLENT hands! I even called a day later to check on her, and the front desk staff reassured me she was doing great with a new friend Chubbs during her Rat Pack play time. I picked her up 3 days later, and she was exhausted! (mission accomplished) We arrived home and she promptly took a nap and could not appear to be more pleased about her long puppy resort weekend. Thanks again, and an extra thanks to the front desk staff. They really know what they are doing!

Update:
Vet confirmed my cats parasite was contracted from their kennel. The parasite sent him in a fit of horrible diarrhea which then caused him a horrible bladder infection. He spent most the day getting sick today due to the set of 2 pills he is on! IT’S NOT FUN CLEANING UP THROW UP AND DIARRHEA!!! Not to mention 3 trips to the Vets just for him!!! I am IRATE!!! Had to take work off to address this, and with what is going on with my father this was the LAST thing we needed!!!
I been keeping a close eye on him, poor guy. He won’t play, barely eats and wants to sleep all the time! Thanks to this place they got my pets sick and placed additional stress on us and our pets!!!
What was heart breaking today, was finding my sick cat curled up next to my dog ashes that passed away in May. His big brother. They were so close. He curled up with them holding the box with his head on the top of them… broke my heart!

My dog attends day care one day per week and absolutely loves it! She gets all the play and attention she can handle and completely collapses once she gets in the car to go home. They have plenty of shade, water, baby pools, etc. to keep the dogs cool in the summer and the staff does an excellent job meeting their needs.
She has also stayed for boarding and did very well. I think they do a great job of getting to know the dogs and the owners. It’s important to me that they let the dogs be dogs and play, which for my high energy mixed breed is important.
If you have a dog that can use a day full of play and is social… this is definitely the place for them!

For the fun of it, my responses to «Chris S.»:
My review is from November 2010. In 2010, my dog was injured, your organization paid $ 0.00. You did offer to charge me $ 25 to drive my dog to my own veterinarian though. If your policies have changed, 1.6 years in the future from the review, then I will simply take credit for complaining about your policy and your changing it.
You say, «composite fencing,» I say «cage». Sounds like an argument of semantics. You’re right I did not know your «composite fencing» size. Because 1.6 years ago, you didn’t offer tours of your facility or provide a sizing.
1.6 years ago I was not the only commentator on your front of house staff. Looks like several people called that out. So, I would suggest that if 1.6 years later you have replaced said staff. Then super for you. However, my experience 1.6 years ago was a poor one (and followed up with poor experience roughly 1 year ago).
Your prices were high 1.6 years ago and 1 year ago. Unless you have changed prices, you need better competitive intelligence if you disagree.
You contradict yourself: you say you separate based on dog size and always have but follow with a sentence that by request you don’t separate. So, you don’t separate «always». Be careful of those definitives. And since your staff used to claim that my dog bullied small dogs (but my dog is a large dog), then you sure were fulfilling a lot of requests back then… 1.6 and 1 year ago.
How can opinions be «patently false»? They are opinions. I will follow with these opinions:
(a) I think requiring appointments is consumer unfriendly for a doggie daycare. I think they are particularly unfriendly when exactly 1 year ago your staff handed me an 8″ x 11″ sheet of paper stating you were now going to require appointments because, and I quote, «you were not staffed to handle current volume». I will reiterate my claim that that was a YOU problem, not my problem.
(b) I felt that your front of house staff 1.6 and 1 year ago were rude and as «Angie A.» states, «they acted stressed out and not very happy to see you walk through the door». That’s a perfect description of your staff during the timeframe of my review — which did I mention was 1.6 years and 1 year ago respectively. Actually, that says something of your customer service right there: it took you 1 full year to type your response.
© Certifications do not equate to customer service. Again, this is an opinion. It is my opinion. 1.6 years ago and 1 year ago respectively (have I beaten that into the ground yet?), your brochure touted how your management staff was certified in training from many different organizational bodies. Let me clear, I think that is wonderful. I do not, however, think that that equals «Customer Service».
My final opinion: I still think your daycare is a 1-​star place. That’s my opinion.

Our Newfie has been going to My Second Home for a few years now and we’re always happy with the attention and service she receives when she goes to daycare or stays as a guest. Everyone knows her by name and takes care of her special needs. We look forward to going there for many years to come!

We have had nothing but great experiences at My Second Home. Our Golden Doodle puppy was very timid when he first started going to Day Care at My Second Home. The staff has really worked with him and now he LOVES it. He is still a little shy around some dogs but he doesn’t cower in the park corner any more. The staff is so friendly when I call to check on his kennel stays too. Our puppy has also gotten a few baths and one hair cut there. We’re were pleased with those salon services as well. We consider My Second Home a true partner in our puppy’s life and we wouldn’t go anywhere else!
