A perfect autumn ride. The trees and brush are changing colors. Birds arechirping. Squirrels and chipmunks are scurrying around. It’s a well kept, asphalt road on what was once a railroad track. Perfect for children.

This is such a beautiful trail. Most intersections with the road have little to no traffic, and a large majority of the trail is in a safe area. The section through Frankfort Square is unbeatable. There are tons of shops and stops in that area if you want to take a break or reward yourself. People on the trail are always friendly and courteous to faster cyclists and runners. I highly recommend this trail. It’s great for families and competitive athletes alike

Great trail to get a bike ride or a run in… plenty of places around to get refreshments at after your bike ride or run… highly recommend this trail.

Been living in New Lenox for 26 years and have used the trail all this time. Used to ride the old train path on my dirt bike and mountain bike prior to it being paved and improved. Now my wife and I regularly use it for jogging and riding our bikes. Terrific place to get out and unwind. True it is mostly flat, but thats because it was an old railhead. The only complaint I have is that most people refuse to acknowledge you or say hi. Lighten up people! Maybe its just a sign of the times and people are afraid. Anyway it is a terrific resource and more people need to experience it.

I have been using the Old Plank Trail on and off for over 9 years. I think I take this trail for granted sometimes. Its well kept and clean. The trail takes you through downtown Frankfort so you can stop to eat or get a drink. There is a small fishing lake on the the trail just east of downtown Frankfort. There is also a killer bridge that goes over Lagrange road. You get a great view from on top of the bridge and its packed for the july 4th fireworks show. You can take the trail all the way to New Lenox Movie Theatre. You have to watch out at night for all the speed riders who think they are racing in the La Tour De France. I usually try and hit it in the morning.

I’ve lived close to the Plank Trail for a long time, but I have recently come to better appreciate what it has to offer. Z gets cranky in the afternoon and being out in the fresh air can really calm her down, so we spend a lot of time here. The Trail has practical rules that are posted and occasionally people follow them. It makes my heart happy to see pet owners picking up pooh and hear bikers announcing themselves as they pass. «On your left!!» We can walk for miles, visit various parks, watch people fish and make our way to a multitude of spots in Frankfort. The trail is well maintained and there is lots of plants and other wildlife to check out. As we walk around the pond, I enjoy listening to the frogs croak at deafening levels and see all sorts of birds flit around. I plan on putting plenty of miles on the stroller this year and can’t wait to see what else I discover.

Nothing ever stands still in life, it is either slowly disintegrating or being constantly improved. Joyfully, the Old Plan Road Trail is continuously improving. I have always loved the trail and never more than in the summer. I start many days by walking or riding my bike in this perfect balance of natural and civilized. I say hi to the friendly folks, I drink in the nature and I savor the glory that is this wonderful redo of an old railroad bed. This year it is even better! They have added more bag stations for when your dog leaves a little souvenir. They installed a stop for pedestrians sign so you can get across White Street without taking your life in your hands. Plus the trail is cut and maintained and home to new benches and picnic tables. It is the best in government services combined with nature and a grateful public. Come take a walk or a ride and if you see me, say hi. I am the one who is huffing and puffing but smiling all the way!
