Best Cupcakes in mid-​Michigan! We always make it a point to come here when we are in Frankenmuth. So many great flavors to choose from. The cupcakes are always moist and the frosting rocks. Heaven in your mouth!

Went there this last week with my wife, because everybody had been telling her that we had to try it. It is a nice little shop, and if you LOVE cup cakes and ridiculous amounts of sugar, you will certainly enjoy this place. They have a variety of cup cakes (and gelato on the weekends) available. I tried the Oreo cup cake and the Charlie Brown cup cake, which is basically just a cup cake with frosting/​crème in the center. It was good, but a little rich for my taste, very chocolatey! For four cup cakes it was about $ 24.00 so not exactly cheap, but the cup cakes are not exactly small either. Definitely worth a stop if you are there. I saw they also have decorating classes available and do wedding cakes and other special occasion cakes.

The gem of River Place.
First off, this place won Cupcake Wars once and I can see why. This was our second trip here and both times were were delighted in what we bought.
The first thing I tried was the chocolate dipped rice crispy treat. If I am ever on death row and they give me my choice of a last meal, this would be included. It was just, really good. Simple, delicious, and enjoyable.
I also tried some of the chocolate chip cookies. Hands down, some of the best i’ve ever had. Soft, chewy, and full of chocolately goodness. The german chocolate cookies were also extremely good.
Then came the cake pops. In our opinions, way better than the ones at Starbucks. They were moist, tasty, and a nice size.
Some other interests — the chocolate bacon was good and the cupcakes looked good, but I didn’t get any on the latest trip for the simple reason that I had gotten so many other things. The selection was amazing and the staff was very nice.
Can’t wait to go back!

Love having Sugarhigh as a part of my weddings! Gorgeous and delicious! The flavor variety is to die for! I have a lot of cake in my line of work, and this is one of the best!

Best cupcakes I have ever had! Very moist, not too sugary and even having them 2 – 3 days after purchase they were still very yummy and not stale or hard at all. Probably the softest cupcakes I’ve had, if that makes any sense.
We did the 4-​$ 12 deal and got Cherry Cheesecake, Tiramisu, Mudslide and Red Velvet. Hard to pick a favorite because they were all so good. I’m not much of a chocolate/​coffee person but actually I think mudslide was near top of my list.
Can’t wait to come back and try other flavors. No place in the metro Detroit area could ever top this place. Just wish it was closer!

We bought four jumbo sized cupcakes. One of which was the maple bacon… wasn’t impressed. The bacon tasted either cheap or really really old. Had an «off» taste to it.
Another one was a chocolate cupcake, with a liquid chocolate filling. It reminded me of store bought chocolate syrup. not in a good way.
The salted caramel cupcake was pretty good.

What a fun place! Chocolate Bacon, Gelato, Ornaments, and so much more. Plus, cupcakes! Everyone needs to try something here!
Bonus — if you have 4 — 8 people you can schedule a private cupcake decorating party! $ 25 for each kid, more for adults. You can even choose your own theme. Call for more info.

I had the banana pudding cupcake. YUM! If they weren’t so big I would have tried a few. The girl at the counter was very friendly and patient waiting for me to decide which cupcake to try! I hunt out cupcakes everywhere I go, and these are pretty high up on my list. Not an over abundance of frosting, enough filling and fluffy cake, and of course great flavor.

The cupcakes at Sugarhigh Bakery are incredible. I had the vegan vanilla cupcake, and it was heavenly. It was rich, moist, and light. I also had a bite of my mom’s cuatro leche cupcake, which is far from vegan. I know. It was the best cupcake I have ever had, and I have had a lot of cupcakes. It was light, creamy, and not overly sweet.
The service was also great. There were quite a few people in there, but they moved people through quickly. While you were waiting, you could watch the episode of Cupake Wars they won and look through the baking supplies they have for sale. I think this is one of my new favorite places in Frankenmuth.

I was pretty underwhelmed by this place. The macarons weren’t made correctly, and were much too small and too sugary. Most of the macarons were also either too soft or too hard. Not worth the money at all. Disappointed, because this is the closest place to where I live that sells them. I definitely won’t be back for the macarons, but I’ll try the gelato once it’s in season. I can say, however, that they make great cupcakes!

LOCATION: Located in Frankenmuth, MI within the Frankenmuth River Place Shops. It is in the corner that is closest to the river with the boat.
STORE: Shop is super cute (lots of pink), HUGE selection of cupcakes to choose from. Various items for sale (aprons, shirts, collectibles, etc), they also teach classes (check their Facebook page or website for listings), Offer a wide variety of treats such as: Chocolate covered bacon, macrons, gelato (when they have it, might be seasonal), cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered marshmallows & so much more! Shop was clean and pleasant to the eye.
CUPCAKE TASTE & TEXTURE: The crumb (cake) is light with a very mild flavor. Frosting was light in flavor, not overly sweet & not oily, good ratio of cake to frosting. They are good cupcakes. As far as the moisture content of the cupcakes, I find that it is hit or miss, sometimes the cake is moist, but other times they are are dry (like my most recent visit). Flavors are not punching you in the face but it’s a decent cupcake, most of the flavor is carried in the frosting not the cake.
CUPCAKE SIZE: Jumbo (these are jumbo cupcakes not normal sized, so keep that in mind with the price)
CUPCAKE PRICE: $ 12.00 for 4 cupcakes (which is a great price for this size, most normal size cupcakes would be that much!), I also LOVE that there are no price scales, so you can choose what ever flavor (no matter if they are filled or not) and pay the same price (unlike most other cupcake places I have been to).
OTHER TREATS TASTE: Gelato — is very creamy, with really great flavor, I have not been disappointed with her gelato but the price is a bit steep for me. Chocolate covered bacon– we are not a fan, just don’t like the eating cold bacon with chocolate on it.
COOL THINGS TO NOTE: This bakery won Season 7 of the tv show Cupcake Wars (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Episode).
OVERALL: We visit this bakery each time we go up to Frankenmuth, it is worth the try if you have never been there!

Amazing cupcakes! I had the maple bacon cupcake– it was a maple cupcake with a maple frosting topped with what looked like a combination of chocolate cover bacon, cinnamon sugar bacon and regular bacon pieces. The cupcake tasted fresh and light. They had chocolate covered bacon, which I had to try for the novelty of it– it was very good! A perfect combination of sweet and salty. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable. It is definitely worth stopping in to if you are in the area!

Wow… what a fabulous place! It was bright and clean and just cute. And who doesn’t love cupcakes! We were there on a cold night in the middle of the week, so there was nobody else in there. The girl working the counter answered all of our questions and we finally settled on a 4 pack. They won Cupcake Wars and the winning cupcakes were part of the selection. I settled on the Cuatro Leche — and it was amazing (one of the winners). The other one I tasted was the maple bacon, I wasn’t a fan but that’s just personal preference more than anything. I will say the cupcakes were very moist and we were there just before closing.
Will definitely add this to my rotation of places to visit the next time I’m in Frankenmuth! Some have commented about the price, but really, you pay $ 5+ for a dessert at any given restaurant and most of them aren’t as filling or as tasty as one of these cupcakes!

So who doesn’t love sweets!!! Once you step foot into this place you could literally go on a sugar high for a month! The cupcakes are literally on steroids with every possible crazy tasty flavor possibly imaginable worth trying! There absolutely terrific! So mouth watering irresistible creations made for all of us to consume! Ones just not enough! You better pick up four and make sure to use your 10% off as well!
The staff here is the bomb as well, very helpful and friendly! It probably helps the fact they have a pretty «sweet» job as well!

This place seems very clean and well decorated. The cupcakes look amazing but are pretty expensive for a cupcake. So I chose to get for cake pops and 10 dipped fortune cookies.
The dipped fortune cookies were very yummy. The cake balls well let’s just say after my first bite and seeing a piece a hair dangling out of the middle of the cake I was about to throw up. Not to mention it was the nastiest thing I had ever tasted and spit out. My son who was in another vehicle with his father apparently didn’t like his either and threw it in the garbage.
I called the place because I was on my way home which was over an hour away and told them of the situation. He was very apologetic but also made the statement and I quote, «We tried to do our best, we do, but sometimes we missed some.» really?
That comment upset me. So I do not recommend this place, I will not come back to this place. He said he’s going to send me a check in the mail and give me all my money back. We shall see. But because of his apology and the fact that he said he’s going to send me my money back I gave it to instead of a one.

My wife told me in no uncertain terms that this was the one place she wanted to visit on our vacation to Frankenmuth. As I don’t watch TV, she informed me that the owners of this boutique bakery won 1^st place on a competitive cupcake contest show and she wasn’t going to come back without experiencing what made them the best. She’s also gluten-​free and it’s a hard task to find gluten-​free baked goods and I guess this place is known for making such confections available.
I was quite impressed. The chocolate cupcake that I ate was fantastic! Each of my three children got their own as well so I was able to get a mini-​sampling of different flavors. Not one was less than stellar.
As I was so impressed, we ended up going back for a second trip before we headed back from vacation.
The place has actually expanded and has a second satellite location right on Main Street but the main store has a lot more choices. If you’re dodging gluten, be sure to call ahead the day before so you can request cupcakes of your choice in a gluten-​free configuration as they don’t make every flavor this way on a daily basis but instead have few dedicated flavors made without gluten by default. Calling ahead solves this issue.

O.m.g. I thought I had found cupcake heaven in Carlsbad CA. While that shop still reigns in my heart, I have found its queen in Sugarhigh Bakery. I’m a cupcake junkie. If Heaven were a place we could build ourselves, my heaven would be cupcakes from this shop.
We ordered 4 cakes/​$ 12. This is a great price point! The cupcakes are huge!
Of course we ordered 2 cupcake wars winners and 2 others.
Quatro Leches: A-​mazing! Moist, not too sweet, mmmmmmm
Salted Caramel: again, soft and moist cake (this matters, folks!), delicious frosting!
Sprinkle cupcake: my 4 year old wouldn’t put it down, but he couldn’t finish it. I took care of that for him. Haha. Nothing particularly special about the cupcake, but it was still delicious.
Lime cupcake: this was the only so-​so one, but my son loves anything lemon-​Limey. He enjoyed it!
The store is adorable and in a fantastic location. They have a couple of tables set up outside which makes for some nice people watching.

I was super excited to try this cupcake place, but in the end I wasn’t as impressed as I had hoped. The cupcakes are pretty good… but far from the best I’ve had. We tried four cupcakes all of which were decent to good cupcake. but none left me amazed. One upside however is that there are lots of flavor choices and the cupcakes are a pretty good size for the price. If you are in the area you should consider grabbing one to share… but don’t go in expecting the best cupcake you have ever tasted.

The cupcakes are good, quite good, and plenty of reviews will tell you that. But let’s not forget about the smooth, creamy gelato. If you find yourself at Sugarhigh, order a a large gelato. Only about $ 5 and some change. They allow you to mix two flavors together, perfect for indecisive people such as myself.
Beware the triple chocolate gelato. It is exactly as delicious as it looks.

Unrequited Love
My dearest cupcake,
I do not know what brought our lives together or why our paths crossed. I guess it was our destiny. I knew there was something special about you when we first met. There was just something about your ways. You stimulated me, as I have never experienced before.
I will never forget what we had. It was a fruitful relationship. It was sometimes nutty. However, it was always sweet. Those spicy times made me crazy. I could not get enough of you even though I knew that too much could be a bad thing. I realize you will only be in my life on the rarest occasions from now on.
Oh cupcake, our love affair was too short for my liking. It is the end of an era. Who knows what our future holds? For now, I will live a life of unrequited love for you. I will never forget our past. You hold a special place in my heart. I look forward to the day when we finally meet again.
