History
Established in 1888.
The William Zehnder, Sr. family entered the restaurant business in 1927 by opening Zehnder’s Restaurant. In 1950, the Zehnder family bought the restaurant across the street, named Fischer Hotel, and «Tiny» and Dorothy Zehnder became the managers. Nine years later they constructed a Bavarian-style addition. The hotel was renamed the Bavarian Inn Restaurant and a grand opening was held which now evolved into the Bavarian Festival celebrated annually in June. Today the third and fourth generation of the Zehnder family operates the Bavarian Inn Restaurant, Bavarian Inn Lodge, Covered Bridge and Leather Shop and the Frankenmuth Cheese Haus and the RiverPlace Shopping Area.
