J White’s Automotive

I’ve not had service done here, but I came here for an inspection and even on the last day of the month, there was no line! None!
It’s probably because I had no clue this place even existed since it’s set so far back, but hey, no line for state inspection on the last day of the month was pretty awesome.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering where it is, it’s in the same building as the car rental place.

To be honest, the reason I came here was because it was close to work. The whole staff was very nice and polite. They even gave me a ride to work, and brought me back at the end of the day once they were done. The only problem was the bill. $ 75 for an oil change is definitely on the expensive side. No issues with work though, and the added convenience probably makes it worth the money.

I have had my Rover serviced here a few times and they are a great place for Land Rover repairs. Their work estimates are clear and they give you honest answers on the work that needs to be done.
The service techs will meet you and discuss any problems they find and the whole staff are friendly. Having owned a few Land Rovers over the years this isn’t my first roundup with Land Rover service locations and J Whites is on top of my list. Wish I had used them a few years ago with my Discovery 2.well. When I get my Defender I will have it serviced here as well.

I came in here completely by chance (because its close to where I work) and found Sean and his team to be professional and straightforward. I needed to get my tires replaced and they gave me a reasonable quote. They also gave me a ride to and from work on them day my car was in the shop. My only complaint is that it took them many days to get the tires for my car — but I suppose that wasn’t their fault. Their emphasis on trust is valuable in an industry that is otherwise so full of doubt and skepticism.

here’s my experience with j whites auto.
i initially brought my jeep in for a waxoyl special i found online thru a 4×4 club, the special was posted by a tech that used to work there. i had some very specific questions about what would be done because i wanted the best coating for my frame. after reassurances from the tech online and the owner and the tech at the shop who would be doing it, i decided to have it done.
they say they’ll need my jeep for a couple days to do the process, they keep it there for almost a week. then when i go to pay, the bill is over double what was posted online, but was quickly worked out after i questioned the owner about it, whatever, no big deal.
so, some time later i receive an email from shirley (owners wife) out of the blue, seems they need votes or likes or something to help get there car rental place going. turns out that i also needed them to look at the waxoyl because my jeep had been in a crash. i email her back and tell her i helped them out and would it be possible to look at my jeep and see if it needed a touch-​up, she replied and said if it was small they’d do it for free or else they’d work with me to keep the price low.
i get my jeep in there and get a quote of $ 400!(i originally paid $ 500 for the whole frame to be done) i tell them i’ll get back to them. i decide i’ll do it and get it touched up. i bring my jeep back in and they decide to look at it again… now the quote is$ 450 to get it touched up?, so i ask to look at it on the lift and talk with the tech who does the waxoyl. turns out the parts they wanted to waxoyl were parts that are getting replaced with a lift kit soon and didn’t need to be done (according to them the frame coating was fine).
so, 2 miscommunications? idk, but heres what really, really bothers me…
i specifically asked in the beginning for 2 things multiple times and was told by more than one person at the shop (including the owner) that they would be done.
1– that they would waxoyl INSIDE the frame rails and
2-​that they would drop the transmission/​transfer case skid, just enough to get waxoyl between it and the bottom of the frame.

hindsight, i probably should have checked every inch of the frame, but i trusted that they would do a good job. i really wanted to like
this place, but now i guess i’m going to have to try and fix it myself

For several years now, we’ve been bringing our Chevy, our BMW and our Rover to J. White’s for every automotive need. At first, we went because it was convenient and we didn’t want to contend with 3 different dealers. Now, we stay because of the excellent automotive service and the way the entire crew consistently demonstrates top-​quality customer care.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s a standard oil change, a straight-​forward brake job or one of those pesky, intermittent problems, Jeff and his team are committed to quality work. I especially appreciate that, on more than one occasion, I’ve forgotten to mention something (like needing windshield wipers) and Jeff’s guys, because of their attention to detail, have discovered and brought it to my attention. Gotta love a mechanic whose got your back.
Jeff is well-​regarded (& justifiably so) for his Rover expertise but his team doesn’t stop there. Each one of these guys speaks many different automotive languages! I feel as comfortable with them servicing my Chevy truck and BMW sedan as my Land Rover.
When we started using J. White’s, they were right down the street. Now, it’s a bit of hike to bring our cars for service — but it’s well worth the time for the excellent service and the peace of mind. They’ve kept us running for a long time!
