Wild Bird Center of Cary Grove

Here are some goodies I’ve picked up from this spot over the years and haven’t seen at any of the other similar shops:
*Owl Pellet Dissection Kit (pellet included – mine had a vole skeleton!)
*Inexpensive, hand-​operated bird calls
*Huge variety in mix-​your-​own seed bins
*Great programs for bird watchers
*“Birdie Bucks” rewards program
*A great set-​up of baths and feeders in the front
*Friendly (indoor only!) cats roaming the shop
*Selection of bat roosts
Hence, the elusive fifth star.
I would say the employees here are as knowledgeable as those at Wild Birds Unlimited, and the quality of items is just as good. There’s a little more price selection, though. The selection of guides is excellent, they offer some really interesting crafts and art by local artists, and they advocate for Flint Creek, a bird/​wildlife rehabilitation and educational center near and dear to my heart. Don’t see something you want? They’ll order it for you, often at prices better than what you might find online. Need help attracting orioles? Nest box going unused? Unsure about how to find good birding trips? The staff can help! They are some of the friendliest, most passionate bird lovers I have met.
Like most similar shops, however, the birdbath options are limited, although they are of good quality. They just don’t have the space for thirty different varieties. What they will do is hook you up with a landscaper who will give you a good price on a fountain, general design for placement in your yard, and installation. We haven’t tried that service, but because of having found such reliability and honesty over the years, I believe they’re on target with that, too.
In short: do not buy bird feeders or seed from Target, PetCo, or Home Depot. Come here. You won’t regret it.
