Above The Mess Cleaning

I have had three months of negative experiences with this company. The owner is rude and the cleaners do a horrible job. More importantly, when one of her cleaners broke something in my apartment it took three months for us to get it replaces.
We called the owner immediately when it happened and she was very apologetic and offered to either send me a check for the cost or buy me a replacement. I thought it would be easiest for her to buy the replacement and have her drop it off at my apartment, but that ended up taking 3 months! I waited a month after the initial complaint and heard nothing back. When I did reach out to the owner again, she claimed to have lost her phone and forgotten all about it. So I sent her the link again and within a week she sent me a photo of the new item which was at their home office. It then took another 2 months to get them to bring it to me! First she sent someone over to my house without telling me they were coming so no one was home to get it. The next week the cleaners «forgot it at the office». The next week no one was going to be in my area. Then I went out of town for a week so for the next three weeks she told me it was my fault no one was ever available for them to drop it off!!!
I finally did get my replacement item from them, but it took three months of back and forth and when I tried to tell her I found it unacceptable, she started saying the damage wasn’t bad enough that they should have had to replace it in the first place. As if this whole situation isn’t bad enough, it proves how horribly she treats her employees, or Contractors as she conveniently defines them. After agreeing to replace the item, when we were talking about how I was going to get it from them, she asked if the girl who broke it could take the damaged item. At first I said no, thinking I could find someone to repair it or keep the not broken parts as back-​ups, but then she gave me a sob story about how the girl who broke it felt so bad and she works so hard for the $ 200 it cost for the new item… that’s right — she was making this girl pay to replace the items! She told us that by classifying her staff as Independent Contractors, as the business owner she was not responsible for covering the replacement cost and would it come out of this girls pay! I find that disgusting; isn’t that why business owners have insurance!!!

Oh God, what a nightmare. I used Above The Mess Cleaning for 6 months before the owner, Kortnee Mogensen insulted me for the LAST time! She is extremely argumentative and downright hostile! She is all sweet and friendly the first time you meet her because she wants your business, but she quickly gets very nasty to you, the customer.
First, the teams were NEVER on time. They came whenever they felt like it and would be as late as 5 hours after and 4 hours before our scheduled time. Many times they would skip entire rooms, or floors, leave gooey globs on the floor, not dust shelves, and what they did dust was a lousy, half-​assed job. They would walk off with my cleaning supplies REPEATEDLY, which Kortnee would then vehemently deny, no matter how many times it happened, to the point of calling me a liar! Then she said «you should’ve asked nicer»!!! When the she didn’t call me back for days, she literally said «oh, it must’ve slipped my mind».
The WORST, BY FAR, was the owner’s own rude attitude and aggressive behavior toward the customer. She is extremely argumentative and hyper-​defensive to the point of calling the customer a liar! When you try to talk to her she gets very angry and very NASTY, very quickly. Though things happened many times, she denies everything, even after it turns out she WAS wrong and she DID have my stuff, and she DID LOSE my list, and she WAS 5 hours late, and DID not clean a room, and DIDNT call me back (no message, not on Caller ID), and so on and so on.
On the last day she started a FLAME WAR with me! She literally texted to me: «maybe YOU (her caps) should’ve asked nicer» and «only people like you think your better than them» and «we are in million dollar homes and nobody would want to steal from YOU» with little smiley faces!!! (I am very middle middle class and never accused anyone of stealing — who would want to steal Pine Sol?! I am also a very nice, patient person. I have worked at many jobs my whole life, including waitressing, and I would NEVER get away with that kind of rude behavior to a customer! Or frankly, such shabby work).
The owner of Above the Mess Cleaning is a loose hot-​head whose first reaction is to argue insult the customer! She doesn’t know how to run a business! I seriously think she has some kind of mental problem and I see others have made similar comments.
Save yourself some big trouble and money and use somebody else!

I needed to find a cleaner to help my mom but since I don’t live in Chicago anymore I was worried about how this would work out for her. They are so flaky about getting in touch with me and being reliable with my mother I can’t use them.
When I finally did get them to clean her house it was poorly done.
Don’t use!

Have been trying to schedule a cleaning with them for over a month as I saw a great rate and since they are close to my home, I thought why not I could use some help around the house. So I tried calling and emailing. No responses to my messages. Glad I didn’t schedule the cleaning though because it looks like this is how they roll. Looked on facebook and searched deeper and most of the comments are «please call me back» and «trying to schedule» and a cleaning company that is that difficult to get a hold of is not worth my time.
Other reviews I located said that their cleaning was also sub par.
So please look elsewhere for your cleaning needs. Above the Mess Cleaning is not a company to use.
