Played here Saturday June 4, 2016. Wasn’t offered practice balls before the round there is no ball machine, all range balls are purchased at the pro shop. The practice balls are already in the bucket so I guess it’s partly my fault to getting a bucket before the round. Although, it would have been nice to be asked considering there is no ball machine.
I didn’t book ahead of time but there was no wait for a start. Hard to tell the fairway from the rough or between different holes. Greens were nice and green very very slow but full of ball marks and other nicks. Very few divots on the tee or fairway were fixed/​seeded. More emphasis should be put on players maintaining the course, for a muni it isn’t too bad. If players did their part it could go a long way.
Tee markers are kind of confusing. Instead of being on the side of the hole they are opposite. Not many signs to direct you to the starting tees and signs of which way the cart path continues into. The course layout itself is kind of weird but It is an executive course (3700yrds?) To get to the 6^th hole you have to drive in front of the club/​restaurant right by the front door on a skinny sidewalk. The cart window was pretty much white so it was hard to see through.
Would I recommend it? Ehh I guess but If your going to play here book online and save a few dollars. If possible, check out the course on the other side (course conditions look much better).

I am only reviewing the banquet hall since that is what I went for. The room is nice but I paid too much money to have my guests walk into dirty and unstocked restrooms. I communicated this to Chris prior to my event and sadly nothing was done. Literally the only reason I had my event in a hall and not just in the park was so my guests would have a clean bathroom.
Was also always promised he’d get back to me on any questions I had and in the end I’d have to call again or email again to get an answer.
Pass up on this hall of empty promises.

Keep in mind that this is a 3700 yd course so it is very quick with nice greens and rougher fairways due to the drought. It’s good value for the price around $ 20 with a cart usually and there is enough water and sand traps to make it interesting. The water is somewhat smelly and polluted so once your ball goes in, it’s gone so use a new ball to avoid contracting hepatitis or something. There are many ducks/​geese/​fowl roaming the course so watch where you step. It’s so cute to watch the ducklings following their parents around as well. Cart was in good condition as well. Highly recommend.

Allows golfers to hit balls over the net into the street with no consequences. Refuses to pay for my crack windshield because they don’t monitor the people using the course.

I’m probably being generous with the 4 here. Many days it’s more like a 3. However, when the course is good, it’s a lot of fun. And the price is right on point. Being a nice, short, executive course, this is the place my friends and I get together to play when it’s been a few months since we’ve hit the links. Since we’re all walkers, a shorter course like this gets us back into the swing of things (no pun intended) before we trek back onto a regulation course. Last time we were here a couple of weeks ago, the greens needed some work but certainly playable.

Very good golf course. I am sure all skill level people can enjoy. We played at 11:08 am with green fees of $ 22.00. I think this is a great rate for this course.
People at pro-​shop and restaurant are also very friendly!

I play golf there all the time and the staff is professional and very courteous. The Manager Derrick U is always there to help with any problem or question. Derek Sipe is a former Nationwide tour player and has a fully booked lesson schedule. Jared and Keval are always one step ahead of any issues and do their best to get everyone out on time.
The course has the best value for golf and many people look down on the course because it is a par 62 and end up shooting in the high 80’s. It has many very challenging holes and the greens will make you work for par

I had an awesome experience booking and holding my daughters Graduation Party here. Chris Castro was down to earth and very accommodating. The staff was hospitable. Venue was a good size atmosphere was perfect. The only thing I regret is not having it end later. Overall A++++. Thank you again for the enjoyable experience.

My husband and I are TRULY grateful to Chris for EVERYTHING he has done for us. We had our wedding there on 12÷5÷15. He not only helped us with things related to the venue, he also referred us to some pretty amazing vendors! Chris, thank you for everything from the bottom of our hearts. We are so blessed to have met you and can’t wait to host another event with you. First Time here. Booked a 1pm Tee Time. Arrived about a half an hour early. The man working the desk was super friendly and told us to go ahead and get started. He informed us that it usually gets busy after 2pm and if we hurry we have a wide open course in front of us. He was right! We were able to golf the course in about 3 hours. The Course was great for a couple high handicappers like my buddy and I. The Greens were in great shape no complaints there! The only thing keeping my review from being 5-​stars is the Café/​Snack Bar. A sign was posted that at 2pm they would be closing. At 1:20 we walked in picked up a menu and they lady working rudely says, ‘Put those menu’s back you wont get anything off those we are closed.’ Her attitude was enough to turn me off of even saying anything about the sign posted out front. She was a major b*tch. Other than that it was a pleasant experience and I will be back! This time Ill make sure to eat before I get to the course though.

The entire planning process for my event was amazing. Chris and Heidy were extremely friendly, accomidating and wonderful to deal with. I would email or call, and get commuication pretty shortly after. I asked so many questions and all were answered!
When I came to set up for the party, Chris was there and answered any last minute questions I had. He asked me if everything was looking like what I expected and it was great. He also kept me updated on what he was doing so I was always kept in the loop.
Here comes the bad news… after my guests had arrived, ate dinner and were dancing things got a little shady. (Mind you Chris and Heidy were no where to be found at this point). The food was packed up much before it should have been… people were still eating and therefore not able to get seconds at the buffet. Also, Chris mentioned that any extra food would be packed up which it was not packed up. Then the staff took my party favors by the hand full and took them to their break room along with the desserts we had set up. I was completely disappointed in how the staff acted during my party. I mean extremely upset.
I would work with Chris any time as he was a complete pleasure. Unfortunetly, I would never have an event at this venue because the staff acted so irresponsible. I would discourage you from having an event here because the staff do not care about their guests and have terrible work ethic.

After our first meeting with Chris we knew immediately we had found our wedding venue! Not only were the prices great and the venue wonderful but Chris was so awesome! He is fun, energetic, passionate and very on top of things! He gave us the freedom to basically do whatever we wanted for our wedding. At other venues we visited everything we wanted came at an additional cost and there were strict rules about where you were allowed to go, noise restrictions, décor restrictions, etc. At David L Baker you can truly make everything exactly the way you want! Chris cares about everyone who books at his venue! He is very attentive and responds to any emails/​questions VERY quickly! He was incredibly helpful with suggestions of how to lay things out and even shared photos of previous weddings to give us inspiration!
The food at the venue is AMAZING! We had plated meals and chose tri tip and mahi mahi as our two entrée choices. I was blown away by how amazing the food was especially given how affordable it is! I could not possibly be happier with the venue and the service we received from Chris and his staff! They did a spectacular job and allowed us to have the perfect wedding!

The food we ordered was not what we were served. What we were served was cold. Food coming out of the kitchen was cold. I would never recommend anyone having a banquet here. Can you imagine going to a food tasting, picking your meal and on your wedding day being served something different. That’s what happened!

Ok if your looking for a nice place to play with good conditions this is not the place, that being said it is a good place to practice your short game as the holes are short and mostly par 3s. dont play on wednesday nights (Maybe thursday) cant remember because of their golf league and one of their day time Marshals George (old guy gets real angry when he is 3 holes behind and you want to pass him. in all it take 5hrs to play in the day and about 3 hrs at night. good place to practice but not play for a competitive round of golf

Very affordable price for an executive muni course. Pro shop people are great! Good café. As expected — on a weekend the place is packed for playing. You’ll often have to wait quite a bit for those ahead of you. Nature of the beast. Course in okay shape. So many divots @ tee boxes. But? Excellent place to work on your game for a modestly priced 18 holes.

Great place to learn or refine golf skills! In addition to playing a short game of golf at an affordable cost. This place is a bit hard to find since hidden in Mile Square park and the signage is misleading for first timers. The location has a putting area and driving range.

For the price, David L Baker is the best golf course in Huntington Beach and the surrounding area. I played a round of night golf here last week with a buddy of mine. The course has giant stadium style lights so that even at night your ball is easily visible on the fairway. David L Baker’s Pro Shop closes around ten p.m., but the course itself keeps the lights on until around eleven.
The rates here are great its only twenty dollars for a full round, a cart and a drink. Soda and water for the golfers under the age of twenty one and a free brew of choice for those who are of the legal age and wish to partake. For golfers under the age of eighteen, it is only ten dollars to play a round and a drink depending on if the guy at the Pro shop is charmed by a little sweet talk. Technically speaking though, the junior price does not cover the drink which is only one dollar in the first place.
For the price, David L Baker is the best course around. The greens are always very nicely groomed with minimal scaring, the fairway grass is nicely cut, and the water in the water hazards is not the toxic green sludge that is typical of the other local course I frequent. For the most part, the patrons of the golf course are very polite and helpful. The level of skill of the people playing varies between groups. Some groups can blaze through the course because most of the holes are par threes or fours. Some other patrons, like myself, are less skilled and need some time to finish out the holes. Generally, the slower golfers will let the more advanced play through.
One warning, the fairways of many holes are very close together. Watch out when you out on the fairway because many times a shanked shot comes flying from another tee box onto the wrong fairway. Another thing to look out for, especially when teeing off at the seventh hole, are ducks. For whatever reason, the ducks love hanging out about fifty feet or so from the blue tee posts at that hole. For an unskilled golfer this hole may turn into a hunting trip very fast. When struck if the ball does not get high enough off the ground it is going so fast that it may very well hit a duck and kill or injure it. My friend Alex hit a driver, it was a low fast ball, and it hit a duck in the head killing it instantly. The whole group was traumatized.
Other than the occasional golf snob and the flocks of ducks, this is a very nice course. It is my personal favorite and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to play a good relatively cheap round of golf.

Worst service ever at a banquet. They started an hour late to serve the food but stop right at 7pm and left ½ the guest without dinner.

This review is for a wedding/​reception held here not the golf course itself.
We recently (July 19^th) had both our wedding and reception here. It is a great, affordable venue! All the people there were great to work with and were very accommodating. That is once the person originally in charge Kristen quit and Chris took over.
The only downside was the food. While it tasted good, it was all served cold. We only had 100+ guests so keeping 3 entrees shouldn’t be hard. When the issue was brought up by one of our guests, they seemed confused and continued serving.
Aside from that and the occasional random drunk golfer giving words of wedding advice, it was a good venue! If the food was hot it would have been 5 stars.
