Me: I want to order soy milk, rice ball and…(speaking Chinese) Lady behind the counter: I don’t speak Chinese, speak English. Went here for Taiwanese breakfast and had some awkward moment. Sweet iced soy milk $ 2.5 has some funky taste. I don’t know what exact it is but it’s not the pour soy milk you made from soybean supposed to taste like as I had expected at traditional Taiwanese breakfast place. Salty rice ball $ 3, pretty standard so it’s ok. rice bowl $ 3, horrible, the rice was grind too much or it was steamed for too long. The whole bowl is becoming mushy paste that’s really gross. The lady took it out from the fridge which was kind empty with only few items left and sent it to the kitchen to heat up from the plastic pink bowl !!! service was whatever, the only good part was the sweet boy who brought me the food from the kitchen. It’s completely empty while I sit there quietly eating my breakfast while few people came in to buy the newspaper. They also had a sign that they have Mexican tamale. I asked my friend who is FV resident for years why this place is so bad, she told me the original owner had sold the place to the Mexican guy who worked there few years ago. Also, it is not related to the one in Rowland Hts.

I use to like coming in here for the boba and Taiwanese goods but this place has gone downhill. We had squid balls, green apple slushie boba, and a green tamale. It seemed like they used premade squid balls that were reheated, the the slushie was all green thick liquid blended with ice. The green tamale was broken up with we opened it. Everything tastes ok but was not great. This place is really run down. They should update this place and think about reopening.

Finally a Taiwanese joint close by to my house! It felt like a take-out place but you could dine-in. They take care for a 0.50 cent charge(which is OK with me!) We dined-in and paid after the meal. The staff ordered based on the numbers so just order based on the numbers on the menu overhead. There are a lot of additions(on poster boards and what-not). What we got: Salty rice roll: it was WAYWAYWAY too salty for me. I should’ve guessed by the name. It had shredded pork, pickles and some crispy bit in there(I don’t know what it was). It was good with all of the textures but I wish they could’ve toned down the sodium so I could enjoy more. Next time, I’ll try the sweet version. XLB: on the menu, it’s called«steamed buns»… I’m not sure why but it’s definitely xiao long bao that came out. I really enjoyed these. felt homemade and a bit unrefined compared to DTF but still good in its own way. Came with ginger and vinegar on the side. Add soy sauce to your liking. Sesame bread with beef: it was smaller than I thought but enough to share. It comes split in half and the bread is nice and flakey. The meat feels like a shredded beef(similar to carnita in a taco)… Which is different from the traditional way but still good Beef pancake: basically a onion pancake with the beef rolled into a burrito and sliced into 4 – 5 pieces. My boyfriend loves beef pancakes. Comes with the same meat as the sesame bread. Onion pancake with egg: it’s exactly what it sounds like. Standard dish. Fried chicken rice: I expected a fried rice with chicken but I got a popcorn chicken and rice dish lol oh well. It came with broccoli, corn and some pickled greens. The rice was dry… So I didn’t really enjoy it too much. I’d steer clear of this. It’s subpar. Hot taro milk tea: made straight from the powder behind the glass divider… Oh well. It was good either way lol I’m sure most boba places use the powder and don’t show us like this place did! Milk tea: sooooo concentrated! My boyfriend loves his milk tea potent and boy was it potent lol nice dark color and rich too. This place also sells tamales!(Most of the cooking staff was Hispanic). We ordered some pork tamales. I was OK with them. A bit dry. Overall, this place a quick in-n-out Taiwanese breakfast joint. I believe they serve breakfast all day, which is nice. It’s a solid 3.5 place. I’d definitely come back if I was craving some XLB(bc it’s only $ 6.50)! I’ll be backkk!

Even though I’m giving Champion a 3 star review, I will probably come back here to eat. Their food is very mediocre taiwanese food, but I love scallion pancakes and their scallion pancake with egg is pretty good. I ordered their beef rolls as well, but I didn’t like the sweetness of the beef. Their salty roll was alright, dried pork and chinese donut rolled up in a rice roll, but the chinese donut was a bit stale. I also wouldn’t order their leek in a box again, but maybe I’ll try their other dumplings next time. I would like to come back and try their drinks next time and maybe their fried pork chop rice combo! Everything is very starchy and oily, but if you can accept that like me, then you’ll be okay here! If only A&Js was closer, I would go there instead, but Champion is an okay substitute for now. The guys that work here are also really nice! You can tell they’re hard workers as they used to be the cooks then bought the small shop from the original owners. Nice to see that :)

Don’t expect restaurant quality dumplings and you’ll be fine! It is what it is and this is a casual, take-out spot! How many dumpling take-out spots are there around? Next to none(within a 3-mile radius)! Therefore, I appreciate that they’re close to home for me and always satisfy dumpling cravings fast and easy! Cuz most of the time, I don’t feel like driving up into the Little Saigon mess just to get dim sum! Ordering over the phone is quite easy … Scroll through the menu photos and write down the # of the items and just order by #s, e.g., «Order for pickup please … 32, 33, 46, etc. Thank you. Bye.» 10 – 15 min. ready for pick-up which is the time it takes me to drive over. They’ve never gotten an order wrong and they’re always nice.

A year or 2 ago I used to go here pretty often mainly for green milk tea, along with some food item. They were decent and good to my liking. Just recently I just felt like coming back to just get the green milk tea. I didn’t see the original Asian owners. The drink this time it was terrible. I cannot describe the taste. It wasn’t even remotely milk tea. It tasted somewhat old and sour.

We had been here a year ago and the food was pretty good. So when we had a craving for Taiwanese breakfast, we decided to frequent the place this week. Customer service was great. Both Hispanic cooks/server/cashier were friendly and very hospitable, that’s why we gave this place a one star, also because zero star option is not available. The soy milk not only tasted terrible, it had a weird smell… don’t ask me why I know what roaches smell like, but that’s what it smelled like to me. We ordered one sweet and one salty rice roll. Both rolls contained old crunchy«Chinese donuts,» which should not be. The hot and spicy dumpling were not hot and spicy. It was more like lukewarm and contained way too much vinegar. The only edible plate was the pancake with eggs. That at least had the correct crunchy texture on the outside and chewy on the inside. So, all in all, other than great service, there’s nothing to brag about the quality of the food. We most definitely would not go back again.

Dropped by this place after work and it’s okay. I was a bit lost on what to do after ordering because the lady moved to the side and I had my wallet out ready to pay. I finally got the hint after I saw her walk to the kitchen. It would’ve been great if she told me you pay after your food is made. Place is alright size for a quick bite. I’ve seen smaller boba joints. Onion pancake with eggs($ 4): It’s greasy, crispy, and fatty. All in all it’s pretty good. Salty Rice Roll(2.75): I was super excited for these. They are good and have flavor. I thought I would become addicted to these because I love snacking on rice with dried pork, but it doesn’t taste like that at all lol. I’m actually surprised that this is assembled on the spot. Potato Tornado(1.25): Mine wasn’t crispy; it was still under fried. If it was crispy I’d be ecstatic cuz where do you get a twisted potato for 1.25. The prices are cheap, but if you consider the ingredients that go into making these and the portion it’s fair to say the prices can be a bit lower for some of the items. I’d probably order another onion pancake with eggs, but the items I’ve tried this time wouldn’t become a repeat for me. I’ll probably come back for their lunch special(boba+crispy chicken) and probably try out their shave ice next time.

I love their OG boba. They were the first to introduce boba around here. I love their iced melon boba, thai iced tea boba, and taro boba. Price is great. Get 10 and get one free! Service is awesome. They are always friendly. extra star for you!

There aren’t many legit Chinese restaurants on this side of the freeway, let alone a Taiwanese place. They serve a variety of dumplings, hot soy milk, fan tuan(rice rolls), noodles, and array of other things. We came around brunch time on a Sunday. There was plenty of seating. We tried the juicy pork dumplings(xiao long bao) $ 6.50, hot soy milk($ 3), and fan tuan($ 2.75). All were pretty average tasting and moderately priced. I would NOT recommend the XLB though. I’ve definitely had better, but this place is great when in a pinch. I also saw people order the taiwanese burritos, and they were really small. Looked more like taiwanese tacos to me. The sign says the restaurant has been open since 1991 and it shows. Everything is dated and old. But still glad to see the establishment last for so long.

Service: good. Plenty parking in same strip parking as cvs and tuesday morning. Food: I did not order drinks here, but it seems everyone else has good reviews for them. –soup dumplings: we have had these from numerous restaurants. these are probably the most bland and my hubby complained they tasted somewhat sweet. –dumplings– they just taste like they had been frozen for a while. the shrimp, pork, napa cabbage dumplings were bland. we liked the chicken dumplings. –salty soy milk– prolly the worst ive had. watered down, bland and the pickled veggie had little flavor. the fried donut or dough was soggy and mushy. plus, they served thr very hot soup in Styrofoam which probably was melting as we waited for it to cool down. Btw, if you leave thirsty, it’s probably because all their dumplings have MSG in them which makes me wonder what else has MSG too.

How have I not written a review for this place??? This has been my GOTO boba shop for years now! Whenever I’m in the OC or passing through on my way to SD I have to stop in. Their workers are wonderful! They recognize me and are always super nice. When it’s the Mexican lady working I have to ask her for less sugar because she’s a little zealous with the sweetness. The Mexican guy in the back makes the perfect popcorn chicken! We like to order it mild, but it still has a nice kick and the fried basil is a great touch! Love love love!

Ever since DTF opened at SCP, I’ve been craving XLB like crazy and come here on my work lunch breaks for a quick fix. Champion Food’s located in a strip mall, it looks like a quick service food to-go place but with some fold up tables and chairs for dining in. This a complete hole in the wall but they have a pretty big menu. I like coming in and getting a order of XLB and trying something else as well. The XLB are steamed on some cabbage, they’re pretty soupy inside but not that flavorful. The dipping sauce and ginger come on the side as well and are nothing too spectacular. For $ 8 though, why not. Other things I’ve had here are the sesame pie, egg pancake, and pork chop lunch combo; all decent. One time I ordered spicy wontons and brought it back to work only to see that they just gave me some steamed wontons with lots of bean sprouts and a side of soy sauce? Not quite the same thing but maybe there was a language barrier or some description of menu items don’t seem to match up, for example — XLB is on the menu as steam buns. I’m not sure why there was a mix up but I’m still down to come back and try other things on the menu. All relatively cheap and portion-wise, good for breakfast and lunch. Had their almond milk tea too and it was also yum. Coming back to try more drinks as well.

Great place. Loving it. Plan to come back in January to drink more of their boba beverages. I think Champion might be a family owned and run business. They have been in Fountain Valley forever, practically. Well known and loved by locals.

I have been coming here for a while because I love Taiwanese breakfast… and to be honest there isn’t really anywhere else near where I live to get it. But even if somewhere else opened up, I’d probably still be here all the time because I like it that much. The first few times I ate here I was like wait, why is every person working here Mexican? The food is so good, they definitely knew what they were doing… But you know, sometimes 2+2 doesn’t add up haha. Well come to learn that the current owners used to work in the kitchen and bought the restaurant! Such an awesome feeling to see people succeed like that. My go to order here is the veggie rice roll, green onion pancake(the spicy soy dipping sauce they bring with it is delicious) and occasionally I’ll also get the pan fried veggie dumplings if I’m super hungry. This is a great casual spot to grab some breakfast or lunch before running your weekend errands! Quick tip: order by item number instead of name

About 20 years ago I first had this interesting, but really good sweet drink with balls at Champion Foods. I started by just swallowing the balls whole because I wasn’t sure what to do with them… who ever had texture and shapes in a drink?! Then my buddy told me to chew them. Awww… delicious! It was about several years later that I realized that it was called boba. Champion foods was one of the OG places to get boba back in the days in Orange County. All this time later, its still fantastic! One of my better places for boba. They also have other items that are delicious. The various jerkeys are great. You can also get frozen dumplings there, which are fantastic.

Decided to stop by today after class since I’ve been meaning to give this place a try. Got an order or crispy chicken, sesame beef bun since a lot of Unilocalers were raving about it, and their grass jelly with aloe Vera healthy drink. Crispy chicken($ 3.95): Only thing I liked out of my whole order. The chicken was nice and crispy. You can have it either spicy or non spicy. Comes with sweet and sour sauce for dipping if you ask for it. Sesame beef bun($ 3.50?): I was really excited to try this one but sad to say I was really disappointed after taking the first bite. It was lacking a lot of flavor. I felt like it needed some sauce, salt, or SOMETHING, anything. The cilantro gave it a nice touch but still, needs flavor. I’d skip it. Grass jelly with aloe vera($ 3.75): All this was grass jelly, aloe Vera bits, boba, and water. It was just pretty much drinking water with the added ingredients listed. You can make this yourself really. I asked for no sugar which I’m glad I did because it was still very sweet due to the aloe Vera and boba. I can’t imagine how sweet it would be with sugar. Def not worth it. I’d skip this one too. Service on the other hand was good. The workers were really nice. I just want to come back to try their Chinese dumplings. Hope it won’t disappoint.

Got here and was caught off guard by stepping into a take out place versus an actual restaurant. So you just order togo or have a seat on the plastic chairs and foldable tables. Read reviews and had to try the Xiao long bao, the pan fried dumplings, green onion pancakes, beef rolls, and got the squid balls with milk tea, but all were slightly disappointing besides the beef roll. The Xiao long bao had little soup and the meat and broth inside was bland. So I just drenched it with soy sauce. The pan fried dumplings were alright, but still needed more flavor. And it left my mouth overly oily. The beef rolls were probably the best, meat was tender and the sauce was delicious. And the wrap was nice and crunchy. The meal was decently priced overall, but it didn’t satisfy my cravings at all. Sad face.
