Walt’s Hitching Post serves New American Cuisine under the direction of experienced Executive Chef Ryan Terry, who most recently worked at the Chart House. Food aficionados are very familiar with the delicious ribs, which are smoked outside in an open fire pit, finished on a grill and then complemented by Walt’s signature secret sauce. Other famed dishes include our Salted Rye Bread, Tomato Garlic Dressing, and Skillet Potatoes — and what’s an American menu without mouth-watering steaks? Guests enjoy a wide selection of cuts, from six ounce and 10 ounce filets to our 14 ounce New York Strip and Ribeye.
History
Established in 1942.
Walt’s Hitching Post is a renowned staple in Kentucky and the Greater Tri-State Area. Its namesake, Walt Ballanger opened the time-honored restaurant with his wife over 70 years ago, establishing signature items such as their legendary ribs which continue to bring in new and loyal returning guests to present day. In 1958, Ballanger sold the property to Billy Melton and his wife and it remained in their family’s management until 2012. New owners, Bronson Trebbi and Donny Arnsperger purchased Walt’s Hitching Post on September 11, 2012. Trebbi and Arnsperger are committed to continuing its legacy by breathing new life into the restaurant, while being careful to uphold its original integrity.

Current owners, Bronson Trebbi and Donny Arnsperger purchased Walt’s Hitching Post on September 11, 2012, through their Vintage Supper Company LLC. Both entrepreneurs bring much to the table, including Trebbi’s background as CEO of RDI Marketing and Arnsperger’s 19 years of experience in Jeff Ruby’s restaurants. Trebbi and Arnsperger are committed to continuing its legacy by breathing new life into the restaurant, while being careful to uphold its original integrity. Fans of the restaurant will be happy to know that Trebbi and Arnsperger have also acquired the rights to the recipes for which Walt’s was famous.
