Pick Any Other Art Institute Campus EXCEPT Fort Worth!
My daughter was talked into going into their brand new Media Arts and Animation program. It started out ok but gradually got to unbearable for her. She wanted 2d animation. This program is primarily 3d. She has had teachers that knowingly Do Not know the subject they are teaching! Completely out of their area of expertise! One teacher spent his whole time belittling her in class and trying out for a game show! Things got so bad she had to report him for deliberately grading her wrong. She won and it had to be changed. Then he quit for his game show. The school doesn’t even have all the computers for the classes that it is supposed to. In some cases the student’s have to find a way to the Dallas campus to even do some classes because they don’t have teachers! WHICH SHE SAID WAS PHENOMINAL! Not to mention the $ 94,000 price tag for Below a Public School Level of Education! Oh, and the fees they keep adding… for what??? Oh, it was a mistake? REALLY? I know they didn’t pay for the Expensive computer and programs required to complete this $ 94,000 education! She has been going there since summer of 2011. Since she is at the point of quitting college altogether because of All of this… she is now enrolling in Full Sail university. Thank You for bringing a person down so low, that they’d rather give up than return to such a Horrible Place! Seriously, we would appreciate a refund!

Well, don’t look no further because this information is going to come straight from the mouth of a graduate from this very school.
*** A bit of advice before I begin though. If you’re considering going into most fields that this school offers and you have the drive to learn on your own I would suggest saving a ton of your money (because this school is expensive) and purchasing the software yourself then use online services such as



or the many many others that are available out there.
Some of these services (such as Digital Tutors) even offer certifications that employers will honor. Believe me, knowing what I know now I would have probably been happier going this route instead of owing as much as I do now. (hindsight) ***
Now, if you still want an actually college degree and you don’t mind paying about $ 40,000 associates (2013) & $ 80,000 bachelors (2013) for it then this is what you are going to get.
I’ll start with the best, students. OK, they may not be the most motivated bunch of people you’ll meet, but because the school is so small you’ll likely be going through the same classes with usually the same people. And after a few semesters you’ll pretty much be known by a good portion of the school.
Second best — Classes /​teachers. Classes are about 4 hours each, once a week per class. They’re not too bad, but it all depends on the instructor you get. But beware, expect to put in long hours on your homework if you want to do well (about 10 – 15 hours per class). Designing can be a time consuming process — especially when you are first starting to learn the software /​processes-​.
Now the bad…
Financial Aid /​Accounting — I don’t have a problem with the people in these departments (in fact, I like most of them), but the process is terrible. Believe me, you will get handed little forms that will sent you to these departments ALL THE TIME. It’s annoying, plus the school has weird charges that will pop up after you think that you’ve settled everything ($ 150 digital fees, for instance) so I suggest borrowing about $ 300 — $ 500 more than you need if you’re applying for financial aid just to curb some of this frustration.
Classes /​teachers — I know what you’re thinking,“But didn’t you just list that in the good column?” Yes, I did. I can’t speak for the other Art Institutes, but as far as this one there can be discrepancies that will make you say the same thing that you would hear about 70−80% of the other students say,“Why am I paying this much for this class/​school?” Like I said, this school is pricey, and when you have a teacher who isn’t very knowledgeable about the subject/​software that they’re teaching, pass off teaching to paid/​free online sources, or create random assignments off the top of their heads you will start to feel a bit cheated.
The Nickel and Dime — When I started this school a lot of printing was free (outside of special printing) and we had a wealth of great stock images to choose from. But, by the time I finished they were starting to charge for printing that use to be free and they got rid of the good stock image sites for cheaper alternatives; which then got even worse as time went on.
Overall treatment of students — Probably my biggest gripe of them all (even though it didn’t really affect me). At one point, the school offered Interior Design as a degree course. Somewhere along the way they lost their certification and/​or the necessary instructor (s) to offer this degree (I’m not exactly sure what happened). They stopped offering this course to new students, but the treatment of the existing students was absolutely awful. The only options they gave these students was either attend the classes that need the necessary certification in Dallas (about an hour drive from this school), or quit without a degree and still owe for the classes you already took. This was in no way the student’s fault for what had happened, yet the administration was fine with basically putting the ownership of this on these few student’s shoulders.
So, do I think it’s worth going to… Errr… not really. Though I am happy with getting my degree and the people I met (both students/​teachers), I don’t think the price justifies the level of education/​service that you will get overall.
