Well… where to start. There was literally no one dining. My sister and I stopped in for a quick bite and to rest while on a 5 hour shopping spree. Waited nearly 5 minutes to even be acknowledged. Which is crazy considering we could see the wait staff sitting in the back. Finally got seated… waitress took our drink order then disappeared. 10 minutes later, got our drinks. It’s summer, we were thirsty so the drinks didn’t last long. Waited and waited. A guy walked by with a water pitcher… didn’t even offer. My sister finally said«excuse me, can we have some water please?» Finally a refill. Then the lady took our orders… I asked for mayo on the side, which obviously means slather on mayo please. I had to scrape the mayo off. Didn’t even bother complaining, we’d probably still be waiting. Will not go back.

This place is adorable. It’s a tea party like setting. Service we received would be 5 stars. The food was good. The ambiance is really enjoyable, the little girl in me was happy to have an English tea type lunch. I came here with my husband. It didn’t have many options for his appetite. He got the Saint Matthew’s lasagna with a salad, it was tasty, it had cheddar, which is unusual but it tasted great. I got the palace penne with pesto and veggies, it didn’t have the oomph I expect from pesto, but it was good. I also had their apricot mango ice tea, that was very nice. For desert he got key lime pie, it was great. I had the olde English scone, it was good, I don’t know if they have different types but mine had walnuts, just a FYI. The clotted cream tastes like whipped cream cheese frosting, if you’re curious.

One reviewer said«the chicken salad had been whipped into submission,» and I have to agree! Not flavorful, no texture, kind of soupy, can’t discern one ingredient from another as it looks like they tried their best to liquify it in the blender before pouring it into a puddle on my plate. Possibly trying to do double-duty with the sandwich spread. Lettuce leaf under the salad was wilted. Had to ask for coffee refills and only got one. The place can be crowded with chairs and people bumping into each other as we try to sit or stand. My friends ordered The Sampler and it looked better. Difficult to get a straight answer on wheat free items. Notations on the menu or a separate menu would be a good idea as the servers don’t seem to appreciate having to do anything extra. It is fun to meander through the antiques after lunch.

Such a neat tea room! Food is excellent. So nice to have a day to browse a lot of booths and eat this fabulous food!

First off, I have to say the food is always delicious here. I’ve never been disappointed! However, don’t plan on a quick lunch. This is a 2 hour lunch. I’ve been there multiple times and it’s always like this and not really because they are that busy. They just leave a lot to be desired in wait staff. Lots of waiting for your order to be taken. Never get refills on water. Bottom line… amazing food if you don’t have anywhere else to be.

I’ve been going to the Montgomery Antique Mall for several years and I hadn’t tried lunch at the Tearoom. I decided to remedy that today. I ordered the salad sampler and a scone with clotted cream and jam. It was so good and definitely more food than I expected. The chicken salad was wonderful. The quiche was also pretty good. I also really enjoyed the fruit salad. The sauce that was given was a bit odd. honey, poppy seeds, strawberry, and I think butter. Tastes good, just odd. The scones are amazing! They are a must have!

I come here once a week usually and I love it! It is my favorite restaurant! The service is usually a little slow but that’s okay because the food is wonderful.

Have been coming here for over 15 years. The menu is dependable, never anything new added. Over time, there have been hits and misses. I’ll return at intervals. One waitperson routinely doesn’t pay attention. Beverage refills must be requested and she gets orders wrong. Felt a little attitude when I asked for oil and vinegar for my green salad after my taste of their Ranch dressing I initially ordered. The Ranch was a chemical-laden emulsification of oil(the institutional, cheap dressing) and was distasteful. Weekday lunch at 12 can get hectic and crowded.

This is our go-to spot for lunch. My wife and I have been here many times. The food and the service are top shelf. I recommend the broccoli cheese soup, the King Edwards sandwich and the bread pudding. Delicious.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Not for the food which is great but for how I was treated today. Drove there at lunch looking forward to the mushroom sandwich. when I asked if I can get it to go(my lunch is pretty short) I got yelled at by the gentleman upfront:” don’t you see I got people to sit, I am not going to pack a to go order for you, we are too busy”. How hard it is to put a sandwich in a box? Thank you for my ruined lunch.

I pass by the antique mall every single day and I never knew what was inside the brown building. My friends and I celebrated a friend’s birthday which we all dressed up in cute tea party outfits. The garden is located in the center of the building which if you’re like me, it’s best to ask for directions from the employees the first time to point you to the right direction. The restaurant is a small and I believe my friends reserved spots since we had about 10 people. We ordered many different types of tea and I know there were a few that I liked. We also had their breakfast items which came out on several stacked plates decorated with roses. It was really pretty! The food was decent. I thought this place was adorable and recommend anyone who wants to have a «tea party» to come here.

We party of four all had .5 soup .5 sandwich. Melt, veggie, club, wardorf sandwiches. Of the 4 the veggie least favorite because of the mess factor. The fruit diped in the poppyseed dressing is delicious. The Cauliflower soup is amazing. Bread pudding my first try ever not to shabby. Chocolate cake devine.

I first happened upon The Secret Garden Tea Room while driving to the Kimbell one day and decided it needed to be on my list of places to try. It is kind of funny, because it is situated right in the center of an antique mall, in an old brick warehouse. Once my friend and I navigated our way to the center of the building to the restaurant, we were charmed by the feeling that we were visiting someone’s grandmother’s dining room. There are rose colored decorations and silk plants(complete with dust, just like Granny’s), table cloths topped with clear plastic, and an abundance of little old ladies and their friends or family members sporting the stereotypical big Texas hair and accent. The furniture consists of charmingly mismatched antique dining chairs and tables. The menu is simple, but tasty. There is an assortment of salads, sandwiches, soup and quiches, both on their own or in various combinations. My stand-by is the Secret Sampler which has a slice of quiche, a scoop of Waldorf chicken salad, a cup of soup(there are two choices each day), and a cup of fruit salad. The soups change each day and are made from scratch. There is always a quiche of the day, in addition to the Quiche Florentine, which is always on the menu. I have honestly not tried anything I didn’t like. Even the strange sounding soups that I imagine my grandparents would love but I never thought of ingesting outside of a Midwestern casserole recipe are delicious when prepared by the Secret Garden chefs. Cream of Mushroom, anyone? High tea is also offered from 2 – 4 each day with reservations. I have never indulged myself, but the trays of treats coming out for other parties I’ve seen look amazing! For the most part, the servers are friendly and attentive and keep those glasses of Apricot-mango iced tea filled. There is one server that tends to work with a little less gusto than the others and occasionally goes AWOL, but she is the exception and it’s not usually extreme enough to change my overall dining experience. Also, keep in mind they DO add 20% gratuity for groups of 6 or more when it’s time for you to fill in the tip blank and signature. I have a feeling this is due to the large groups of Red Hat ladies who still tip as if it’s 1940, but I felt like the server was trying to pull a fast one on me when she didn’t bring the itemized tab back with the credit card receipt. Again, this was only once of the many times I’ve been, so it didn’t change my overall outlook. I have become a regular of the most extreme sort here because the food is relatively healthy and so delicious! Plus, it’s a great place to bring visiting friends and family members before heading to the Cultural District or zoo. After eating, I usually meander through the different antiques, dreaming of time travel or laughing at the curiosities of yesteryear(there is actually a booth with nothing but cat-themed items and another with nothing but classic vinyl). It’s so perfect for those days you want to get out of the house, but in a low-key climate-controlled environment. Parents, grandparents, siblings, my 18-year-old nephew with a heavy metal t-shirt and gauges in his ears.. . They ALL love it too, so give it a try!

I LOVEANTIQUES and having lunch in the middle of an antique mall is one of the true pleasures in life. This place is quiet and off the beaten path. But it’s a hidden gem. It’s casual but you could get dressed in your Sunday best and have high tea with the ladies also. The food was fantastic and filling. I had their club sandwich and soup of the day(standard tea-room fare) but the flavors were delicious. They don’t have a lot on the menu but that enables them to perfect the items they do offer(great sign of a great establishment). I look forward to returning there soon. I think my Mom would enjoy it.

There are many little tearooms in antique stores in the metroplex, this was disappointing. I have eaten here in the past, quality has diminished. My chicken salad had been whipped into submission, there was absolutely no texture at all. The pesto pasta salad was so underdone it was actually crunchy, best thing on the plate was the fruit salad, but it was served with a bizarre bright red poppy seed dressing… I will stick with Simpliciteas at Lone Star Antiques…

I’m a fan of the food, but not the service. Still, I will be a return customer albeit a more assertive one. I had a delicious cream of mushroom soup and half a chicken salad sandwich. Very, very good. I was dining alone and server seated me at a back corner table, facing a service sideboard instead of facing out where I could at least look at shoppers and antiques within view. Maybe she didn’t want me to see her… which was easy enough accomplished because she never once checked on me during my meal. I finally flagged her down to request my check. After a long wait, finally got up and waited at the exit. Check was forthcoming. The problem was this particular server, not all of them, jso my experience won’t deter me from coming back for another yummy lunch.

Cute is the best way to describe the Secret Garden restaurant at Montgomery St. Antique Mall. This is the perfect place to take your mother or grandmother for lunch, and that’s a lot of who you’ll see in the restaurant. The Secret Garden is hidden between old vanities and purses, with almost(but not quite) tasteful fabric flowers hanging from the ceiling. Their tables and chairs are mismatched items from around the antique mall, and the provide a very authentic ambiance to the place. The menu consists of a pretty standard lunch fare – soups, salads, sandwiches and pastas, and they specialize in tea(both hot and iced). I love antiquing, and the Secret Garden was the icing on a truly fun day of shopping. Check for the various soup specials of the day – they’re constantly changing and pretty delicious.
