History
Established in 2008.
The Ruth’s Chris Steak House legacy began when Ruth Fertel mortgaged her home for $ 22,000 to purchase the «Chris Steak House,» a 60-seat restaurant located in New Orleans, Louisiana. More than 40 years later, our success continues to be driven by our adherence to Ruth’s core values, which are to deliver the highest-quality food, beverages, and service in a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Today, there are more than 130 Ruth’s Chris Steak House restaurants, including 19 international franchisee-owned restaurants in China, Mexico, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Tokyo, Aruba, and Canada.
We seek to exceed our guests’ expectations by offering high-quality food with courteous, friendly service in the finest tradition of genuine hospitality across all of our restaurants.
Meet the Business Owner
Ruth F.
Business Owner
Our Founder, Ruth Fertel, purchased a restaurant called Chris Steak
House in May of 1965. She ran the business as Chris Steak House until a
fire destroyed the original location. Ms. Fertel had previously purchased
a building on the same street as the original location, just a few blocks
down the road. However, when she planned to move Chris Steak House
to the new location, she realized that she could no longer use the name
Chris Steak House for legal reasons. Without having any time to do
marketing research on names for her new location, Ms. Fertel, simply
decided to add her first name Ruth and make it possessive to Chris Steak
House and a very unique name was born. Ms. Fertel often joked that
Ruth’s Chris Steak House should be used as a sobriety test because the
name is such a tongue twister. That’s how Ruth’s Chris Steak House got
its name!
