Lone Star Film Society

VERY disappointed that I, a non-​passholder, was unable to see the 6pm showing of «Carol» today Nov 7, 2015. All seats were taken up by pass-​holders and ticket holders were treat as a sub-​culture, made to wait 45 minutes in line for nothing. I puchased my tickets long ago — at least I received a refund. Have a ticket for a film tomorrow, am considering asking for a refund. I was seriously considering purchasing passes for next year, now, not so much. No guarantee of a seat. Paid for obligatory snacks for nothing but disappointment. You could take a hint from the Seattle International Film Festival and get this event planned properly. In speaking to a film-​maker with a film in your festival, he indicated that films with probable Oscar-​winning performances (Cate’s) are over-​sold thereby not letting ticket-​holder have a seat. His film, alas, was shown in a tiny theater with little press. Very poorly planned, disappointing event.

This is a wonderful local organization here in our city, and more people should know about it, especially if they have an interest in the arts, film, and our Fort Worth Community! The Lone Star Film Society is a non-​profit organization focused on educating and entertaining through film. They host a series of events/​screenings during the year for both adults and children, offer internships and filmmaking workshops to the underprivileged youth in our area, and put on an amazing annual film festival (usually in November).
I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with the LSFS. I’ve been to 3 of their screenings now; Big Trouble in Little China, Mean Girls, and Piranha. All were shown at the Modern (tickets are typically $ 7 per screening). My only minor complaint is this: I wish the theatre at the Modern allowed you to take in food + drink (especially if it’s adults only). You get pretty accustomed to being able to snack on something and sip a beverage during a movie — it’s a big part of the movie-​going experience! When I saw Mean Girls, the film had to be projected onto the wall of Café Modern, so the bar stayed open later than usual and sold snacks… that was perfect! Maybe they’ll do that again sometime.
I definitely plan on attending their film festival this year in Sundance Square, and I can’t wait to see the Gremlins this April (there is a Joe Dante series going on right now). I also enjoying following LSFS (@lonestarfilmsoc) on twitter because they’re very active and are consistently posting fun/​useful film-​related musings.
If you have an interest in movies — from the current and artsy to the old and campy — you should definitely get involved with the Lone Star Film Society. They’re a great local organization, and I’m happy to support them!

My first event shall not be my last.
I attended the Mean Girls showing last week with the CMYE ( Unilocal) event. It was a blast. They had a quote bingo set up to help you win passes to future showings. And, the audience got really into quoting along with the movie. Was a fun and festive atmosphere.
The society seems to have a lot of fun pulling these together and I hope to be able to attend more.

I attended my first quote-​a-​long put together by Lone Star Film Society at Café Modern in the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. It was great seeing/​hearing everyone quote lines from Mean Girls as we played bingo. Café Modern was the perfect venue to screen Mean Girls while enjoying appetizers and cocktails. Thank you Lone Star Film Society for an awesome experience!

Came for a CMYE Mean Girls Screening at the Modern. It was fun and great. During the film we played «FETCH «Bingo with a bunch of quotes from the movie. I’m glad I got to experience this because I never would have known about the Film festival coming up in November. There are 2 passes for the festival and you can find out more about it at their website. I will consider purchasing after this experience.
