History

Established in 1985.

We opened our practice as Candleridge Animal Clinic in 1985. In 1999 we moved to our current location and renamed the practice Harris Parkway Animal Hospital. Consistency in providing premium pet care for your animals is very important to us. Dr. Young has practiced veterinary medicine for almost 30 years and has worked alongside Dr. Blue for 25 of those years. Dr. Jill McNeal joined us 6 years ago.

Business Owner

Dr. Richard Young worked for a veterinarian when he was in high school. He pursued this path at Texas A & M, receiving a BS in veterinary science and a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine in 1981. In 2000, Dr. Young earned a Canine/​Feline Specialty designation from the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP). In 2010, he became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist (CCRT). Dr. Young is passionate about helping dogs and cats have the best health and happiest lives possible.

This was a fantastic experience. I arrived at around 7:30 and expected to wait in the parking lot until 8 when the door said they opened. The receptionist came out to my car and told me to come on in that they were open. She even offered to carry the cat for me. I waited for less than 5 minutes to be taken back and I feel like the vet actually listened to me instead of just talking at me! Everyone from the time I walked in the building until I left made me feel like I was the only client they were going to have today. Nothing was rushed, everything was thorough, everything was clean. They even offered me coffee in the waiting room! I’m so glad that I found this vet clinic. 6 stars if I could give it! My cat even liked the vet and tech!

I liked this veterinarian a lot! Well priced. Thorough. Friendly. Sweet to my dog. I felt like my dog felt like she was in a safe and happy place. They had bath mats on the scales and on the exam table to make the animals feel more comfortable. There is even a red hydrant out front! I confess, I chose this veterinarian from Unilocal because they give out chocolate chip cookies! And they are fresh baked I think! Mmmm!
They also have Keurig coffee! Yum! Very sweet lady at the front desk as well as the tech in the exam room.

Great attention to details!
Seriously love this vet! They are all so kind and caring. One thing they do that I love is that every time you come in, they take an updated picture of your fur baby, update it in their system, and print a few copies for you to hang on your fridge! it’s a special little extra that most vets don’t really do.
They did an EXCELLENT job with our puppies spay too. The first place we went did a poor job and she was restless so she kept breaking the incision open. We brought her here to fix it and it was done very well! You can tell she was about as happy as she could be after being spayed and we were too!

We were visiting Ft. Worth for Thanksgiving when our dog became sick. We were far from our normal vet and were very concerned about our dog’s well being. After an Internet search, we settled on Harris Parkway Animal Hospital. We couldn’t have made a better choice! Dr. Young and his staff were simply amazing. They cared for our little guy as if he was their own and took care of us, as well (with freshly baked cookies and coffee). I can’t begin to express how appreciative we were that they were able to accommodate us on short notice and their professionalism was unparalleled. They were upfront about costs (which we found to be reasonable and fair) and deferred to us after giving us a range of treatment options. Our dog is well on the way to feeling better and we have Dr. Young and the staff of HPAH to thank.

Dr. Young may be the best vet in history. I originally took my dog to another vet –who we live 3 minutes from — to have a lump checked out. He wanted to do surgery (w/​general anesthesia), send off for a biopsy report, etc, which he estimated would cost over $ 900.
Asking Dr. Young for a second opinion was the best thing I could have done at that point. Dr. Young took a biopsy in his office, checked it out, and let us know that the lump was a non-​cancerous cyst. He also did a thorough evaluation, and even trimmed her nails for us. The most unbelievable thing is that he didn’t even charge us. He said ‘he really liked’ our dog and wouldn’t charge us for the visit. He is now my permanent vet, needless to say. I drive by several other clinics during the half hour drive to Harris Parkway, and will continue to do so as long as I live in the DFW area.

This place is wonderful! I took my italian greyhound there for a teeth cleaning, and the entire staff was so pleasant and attentive. The woman at the front desk is clearly very enthusiastic about animals, and she did a great job of making my little nervous boy feel comfortable. The doctor called me several times throughout the day to give me updates, and she was extremely kind, helpful, and easy to talk to. She and her team took extra special care to be gentle with my iggy’s delicate little throat and teeth, which I really, really appreciated. You won’t get service like this anywhere else! Highly recommended.

My son recently moved home with his Rhodesian Ridgeback and had been using a vet in another part of town until today! Our dog woke up today limping and crying. The «other» vet could not see him until next week but offered us pain medication. Do you really give a pet pain medication without a diagnosis? I decided to call Harris Parkway Animal Hospital and they were very willing to work us in! We will most definitely be returning and will not be going back to the «other» vet. I am very thankful for their kindness and willingness to help a furry friend.

I just recently adopted my sweet Basset Hound pup and we visited Dr. Young at the Harris Parkway Animal Hospital for the first time today. My Basset recently had heartworm treatment elsewhere, which she’s still recovering from, but I took her in today due to a minor nasal issue.
Not only were the front desk staff friendly and helpful, but the vet techs were just as kind. Dr. Young is very thorough and spent as much time as I needed answering my «new mom» questions. It’s apparent that Dr. Young loves animals, as any vet should, but his overall pleasant, caring, interested attitude and demeanor are truly exceptional.
I would recommend Dr. Young to anyone with pets in the DFW area, and I won’t be taking my pup anywhere else!
Bonus: The front lobby is very large and spacious, and the Harris Parkway Animal Hospital takes pictures (Dr. Young does it himself!) of your pet and with your permission, puts them on their Facebook page with fun captions (they even printed out a picture of my pup for me to take home with me!). Dr. Young seems to respond to client questions on FB, and he gives out his cell number for emergencies. He’s a rock star vet for sure. :)

My dog, Gypsy Rose has been a patient of Dr. Young’s for about 8 years now About a year ago she was diagnosed with cancer & just recently she had 3 surgeries to remove 3 different tumors. All 3 surgeries were performed by Dr. Young. He saved my little girl’s life and the follow-​up care by him and the entire staff has been very supportive and wonderful! I WOULD NOT trust anyone else with Gypsy’s care other than Harris Parkway Animal Hospital. She has spent nights there both during her illness and while I have gone out-​of-​town and she has done very well! I consider them to be THE BEST VETS paws and hands down!!!

My dog is my child. He has not been in my care for a while and, I wanted to get a few things checked out. The heart worm test alone was only $ 41 no eval required. Everyone in the entire office was warm and friendly. When we first got there he was running for the door… when he left he was happy and trying to make friends with other customers. The two women that took care of him were so wonderful, I am very sure that we will be using this clinic for everything.
