If you haven’t attended here yet, you are missing a world class venue, world class orchestra, and superior performance offerings. The mezzanine is the best value, view, and overall quality. If you haven’t stood on the mezzanine terrace with a drink from the lovely bar… Well then you wouldn’t understand one of the best combinations of heart, soul, passion, art, and music. From Broadway to Symphony was another wondrous example of the orchestra. I was not a fan of the amount of talking done by the vocalist.

Led by up-and-coming music director Miguel Harth-Bedoya, the Fort Worth Symphony brings top-quality classical music to acoustically perfect and physically exquisite Bass Hall. It puts on a full season’s worth of programming, and is also the resident orchestra for the Van Cliburn piano competition, where I saw the symphony in action recently under guest conductor Leonard Slatkin. Maybe it was the way the sections were organized, but the strings seemed super-sized in number relative to the other instruments, and as such, they produced an exceptionally rich sound that filled the rafters of the hall. Guided by Slatkin, the symphony was able to adjust reasonably well to the individual playing styles of each of the finalists. While its nearby sibling, the Dallas Symphony, may have a higher profile, the Fort Worth Symphony holds its own, and for folks in Tarrant County, it’s well worth supporting a high-quality ensemble in such a gorgeous setting.
