Carshon’s

Soooo I am from the NE and I was extremely dissapointed by this place. I came here with my friend who is also from the NE and she agrees its a big let down.
Yeah to start its cash only, which is annoying. The server was nice but slow and kept forgetting straws.
The inside is OK but nothing special, not even all that great. I ordered the bowl of matzo ball soup which was decent but again nothing special. The broth was pretty good but the matzo balls were kind of tough.
I also got half a salami sandwich on a bagel which was disgusting. They have two tops for the part of the bagel, the salami was gross and my friend who ate her pickle said it tasted rancid. Let’s just say I wont be back here and im shocked of all the good reviews

First, only cash or check no credit card not even debit. This is the 21^st century and this needs to change. It is an inconvenience to the customers! Second, I started talking to the server asking questions and she was short and left me in the middle to go wait on someone else. Third, and final straw, there is a charge to share a sandwich. If I want to split a meal that should be my prerogative and is not a burden in anyway on them. Just a way to get more money! Well, they lost these patrons because we walked out and are heading to another restaurant to eat. There are too many great places in Fort Worth to have to be subjected to this type of treatment!

Well after many of years of hearing about this place I decided to drive all the way out here and give it a try. Automatically a big letdown considering that they do not except credit cards. What a shame that I came all this way and couldn’t even try it!!! Major thumbs down to that because I rarely know anyone that carries cash anymore! Then I decided to read some of the other reviews and noticed that practically everyone mentioned that maybe it’s time that they get on the ball.

Best Ruben in Fort Worth, hands down. Wonderful atmosphere, and everything else is good too. Cash only but who cares it’s fucking awesome.

Carshon’s pastrami & smoked turkey combination sandwich with provolone on toasted egg bread is the best sandwich in Texas. I usually have to pause halfway through the sandwich to capture the magical moment, and thank the sandwich for all of the joy it is bringing me.
I like to review the take-​out experiences at restaurants, and Carshon’s is very easy. The staff is very friendly, and the food travels well. If they were open for dinner I would probably order Carshon’s at least once a week.

This is one of those places I failed to review due to it being an iconic landmark. That, and the atmosphere is rather bland. It is a true, old fashioned deli. The tables are covered in plastic coated table cloths and there is a chalk board on the wall that has desserts listed. But, don’t put too much weight in «the writing on the wall» as it may not be accurate. We ran into that a few times.
If you want some really great meat on a really good sandwich, you shall receive. Don’t bother mulling over your choices, just start at the top of the «R» sandwich menu (Ruthie, Rachel, Rueben, etc.) and work your way down. You will be back for more… I promise.
I just wish I had all the money they have lost in revenue due to not accepting credit cards! Heck, me and my lunch buddies alone would be a significant amount! The place is cash (or check, but who uses checks anymore?) only. I have passed on this place countless times due to not having cash on hand. I am certain many others have as well. I bet you could buy a boat… no, a yacht. A really big yacht! and a private plane! OK, maybe I am getting a bit out of hand; however, considering they have been around for as long as they have, I may not be far off.
But, let that be a testament to the food. They refuse to keep up with the times and they are still in business. There is a reason for that. They could be booming! I suppose they are happy with what they have.

We haven’t lived in Fort Worth for over a year and we still talk about Carshon’s with our mouths watering. The Rebecca, Ruthie, Rachel… they’re all killer. It’s a wonderful family business and the next time we are in FW it’ll definitely be one of our first stops. It’s an old school deli like my grandparents would have taken me to. I’m not a fan of the deli salads, but the sandwiches are huge and more than fill me up (with leftovers). Oh, and get a lemon bar — never a mistake!

I can not imagine how a sandwich could be better than the pastrami and swiss, on rye, grilled. Get a side of the bagel chips too. The pastrami is amazing and you can tell it’s done with TLC. The rye is great with just enough grilling to get a little crunch and butter flavor. Swiss compliments sandwich perfectly. Don’t forget to drench the sandwich with their insanely good mustard. I don’t know if they make it themselves or get it from somewhere else, but it’s insanely good.
I had been here a few times before, more than 5 years ago and recently moved back. Can’t wait to go back and get the exact same thing!

I have lived in Fort Worth for 16 years and although I had heard great things about their sandwiches, I somehow never made it in until today. Had it not been for Stephanie behind the counter making my sandwich and making up for the terrible greeting I received from the cashier, I would have given this place less than one star! Stephanie apologized for how I was treated and threw in a couple extras and a smile.
I will be back and will be sure to ask for Stephanie.

We’ve heard good things about this place and have intended to come for awhile. Well, we made it today and should have just gone to McAlisters in Arlington.
Two sandwiches took nearly half an hour to make it to our table. And then the order was wrong. The tomatoes were soft, mushy, and tasted spoiled in the pasta salad. The broccoli was also soft and I convinced myself that it had been cooked. The dessert special on the board facing me the whole meal was out when I ordered it.
We won’t be back.

The have wonderful service, food and hometown feel! I always get the corn beef sandwich and a slice of pie! Don’t pass up the pie!

Rule #1: Bring CASH. There’s no ATM and they don’t take credit/​debit cards.
Rule #2: Get the Reuben. So stinking good. We ordered a side of coleslaw and Russian dressing for the sandwich my husband and I split and it was DELICIOUS. I was sad to take the last few bites… no joke.
Our kids got a lemon bar and cappuccino ice cream pie for desert and they loved it.
Our waitress was warm and friendly and the cashier was a down to earth nice person. This is our new favorite deli in the area.

I felt unwelcome. Felt like that place belong only to a certain «Kind» of people demographically. Racism is real. I’ve learned my lesson.
No Thanks! Not for me.

If you are from Southern California and expect Kantors, Art’s of Jerry’s, you will be disappointed. Notwithstanding that this is not a full fledged Jewish Deli, it is the place to get some really good sandwiches at reasonable prices. It gets four stars for a reason and it is not the ambiance. It is the food. It has been in Fort Worth forever and that speaks volumes. People were ordering pie right and left, so I expect that would be a no-​brainer to order for dessert. In fact the chocolate pie was already sold out at 1:00 PM. Not sure you will have room for dessert, because if you get a sandwich and a side, you will probably need to pass on dessert. Try it and you will want to go back.

Carshon’s…tucked away in a lonely corner of the PHS/​TCU Neighborhood, it is a true jewel of the many great Fort Worth lunch choices. Their Rebecca sandwich is amazing. Always more food than I can eat by myself, it is perfect size to split with my sweetie and then share a slice of pie. We had butterscotch on this visit, and it was still warm. I highly recommend this place, my only suggestion is to not be «that guy» who asked about a ham sandwich at a Jewish Deli.

This is THE place for amazing sandwiches in FTW. I love every thing about their food. If they had better service I’d give them 5 stars. The staff seemed a bit disorganized and we missed the lunch crowd and went at 1:00.
The house made bagel chips are wonderful and I have yet to order a sandwich that wasn’t delicious.
It’s a small place and can get crowded — don’t go if you’re in a hurry.

Yum! Was told by a coworker to visit carshon’s and so glad that I did. Was a bit bummed to see that they don’t accept credit cards but the food was worth paying cash. I enjoyed the Rutherford that came with a fresh pickle and spicy mustard on the table.
Again, yum! So ready to return.

Fresh food. Our office staff has to satisfy the craving for Carshon’s at least once a week. If I’m super hungry, I go for the Rebecca. If I’m not so hungry, I love the tuna salad sandwich. Their brownies are to die for, don’t leave without at least taking one to go!

Without question Carshon’s serves the best sandwich in Fort Worth.
As other reviewers have noted — they do not take credit cards — so come prepared. It’s a little hard to see from the road so its easy to pass it. The accoustics make the dining room loud but not enough to prevent conversation.
Excellent service — quick, effeicient and friendly. The specialty sandwiches are superb. My favorite is the Rachel, it is corned beef and turkey with swiss cheese, cole slaw and russian dressing on grilled rye. Their experience shows as the ratio of each ingredient is absolutely perfect.
And their desserts are worth the trip as well, the pie in particular. We were there yesterday and my wife had the lemon meringue and said it was outstanding.

This was my first visit to Carshon’s Deli located in the south side of Ft. Worth. It’s a small building that would be easy to over look passing by which makes it even more of a local gem.
The inside is actually much larger than I expected from the outside. When you enter the front door you are face to face with the deli counter and all the meats and cheese that are used to build your meal. To the side is the dinning room which has adequate seating for a few large groups and the usual suspects you’d find in a local lunch spot like this.
We sat down and was greeted by a waitress and presented the menu. I knew what I was here for before I left the house but I still took a few minutes to look over the menu. I was surprised at the diversity in the sandwich menu, not many places offer tongue and chopped liver sandwiches.
I placed my order — the Ruben sandwich with a side of macaroni salad. My wife ordered a half of a chicken salad sandwich and a cup of the soup of the day — potato.
Out first was the potato soup. A nice creamy cup of warm goodness. I was only allowed a spoonful but it alone would be worth another visit.
Next up were the sandwiches. My wife’s chicken salad looked good. Shredded chicken with mayo, hard boiled eggs, green onion and pickle relish made up the salad which she ordered on egg bread.
I had the Ruben, my check point for any restaurant that calls themselves a deli. I was pleasantly surprised.
The Ruben was served on grilled rye bread (pumpernickel was available but I went traditional). The corned beef had a great subtle taste, juicy and warm throughout. The sauerkraut had just enough kick to keep the sandwich going and thankfully wasn’t so messy as to make the bread soggy. The Swiss cheese held it all together with that aged dry taste you only find in a good quality block of cheese.
Overall, this is a great place for a nice quiet lunch of good quality sandwiches. There were several plate lunches available including knock wurst and kraut so I’ll definitely be back to try the other fare Carshon’s has to offer.
A word of warning — the business does NOT accept credit/​debit cards so bring cash with you. Also, this is a lunch spot so don’t expect to grab a late night snack as they close at 3pm.
