La Quinta Inn & Suites Ft. Myers – Sanibel Gateway

Going to say the same thing everybody else has pretty much said.
–Older rooms with tacky «modern» furniture.
–The rooms are filthy. Trash (deodorant cap, wrappers, crumbs) still on the floor. Stains on the door, couch, floor, you name it! Just a film of filth on the lamps & end tables.
–Mildew/​Smoke smell in my room.
–A/​C unit very noisy
–Walls very thin — heard the guy next to me take a dump in his bathroom the next morning; could hear full conversations; heavy foot traffic from above
–Had a room in the back (155) with no where to take my dog to go out. Big field of brush, weeds and who knows what else to one side but other than that no grassy area in the back of the building.
My mistake for not going to look at the room when I checked in the afternoon of my stay. I was on my way back from Captiva and meeting friends for dinner so just popped in to check-​in and didn’t come back until 10:30pm. Didn’t want the hassle of dealing with the front desk at that time of night and didn’t want to move my dog to another room. Didn’t really sleep that night and left by 7am to get the hell out of there!
Use to stay in La Quinta’s ALL THE TIME and have had decent experiences. My mistake for not checking reviews on this specific hotel. Definitely would have stayed elsewhere if I read reviews. Don’t make the same mistake I did!

Three stars only because they handled the situation well.
Here’s the deal: Horrible breakfast & a little dingy. Rooms are questionable. Nice pool & hot tub.
We booked on Travelocity & the first room we checked into was noticeably dirty & smelled of chemicals & mildew. It was a king sized bed facing east (#217). The young girl running the front desk was kind about showing us other options. We looked at #301: smelled like soap & still a little filthy, and numbers 255 & 257. #257 was the best. Clean & no funky smells.
Breakfast: a cluster #*@! of people gathered around two waffle makers. No one says excuse me. There is dry cereal, really sad apples, bagels, kid-​sized yogurts as other options. Pack to eat in your room or find an iHop.
Overall, the location right by the bay front beach, close groceries & liquor store, pool & hot tub, and the staff make it acceptable.

I don’t understand how this hotel has so many good reviews. I totally forgot that I stayed here a few years ago and had the same problem. The rooms have an extreme mildew smell. The nice lady at the front counter apologized and took me to three other rooms to find a better one. I had to wait awhile to see the rooms because she had to show another customer a bunch of rooms for the same problem. I ended up picking the best of the three which was still pretty bad. After I took my shoes off I noticed that the carpet was damp. She told me that they just shampooed the carpets.
The couch is disgusting and dirty.
allergy sufferers beware!

They offer normal value for $ 55 per person in terms of size of rooms and facilities availability (pool, gym) and they have very friendly staff on the front desk.
But! They have huge problem with the dirty! We stayed there overnight on the 2^nd of January, took a room for 4 with 2 queen-​sized beds. The room was dirty — hairs was everywhere — in a toilet, on bed sheets, on the floor. Chips and dust were on the carpet. Of course, because cleaning staff was seen hanging around looking at their phones’ screens rather than at dirty carpets.
They gave us one small pack of shampoo and 3 coffee packs for 4 people.
The air conditioner was stupidly put on the wall just a meter from my bed. The whole night i had to cover my back with the pillow otherwise I was afraid to get frozen until the death. Who invented this wonderful solution? I didn’t sleep a minute.
The breakfast was poor but ok — waffles, eggs, muffins, packed porridge and milk, yogurt, toasts.

They need to clean the room, AC and rugs with disinfectant. We switched rooms 4 times each room was as bad as the other. They smelt of mold and mildew. Stains on the rug, and the cushions of the sofa, and desk chair.
The pool was very dirty for our 4 day stay. The pool crew was there on our 3^rd day cleaning it but i guess because of the rain, and them not having someone on site to skim and check the filer was why it was so dirty.
The staff was very nice, even as the rainwater behind the front desk was dripping into a garbage pail. They had no problem switching our room the 4 times. We just gave up and bought a large can of Lysol…

Was in the Ft. Myers beach area and spent the night here. Room was clean and appropriate for our needs. However, the bathroom, spoeciofically, lwaves alot to be desired. There was a bit of a slope to the shower and when stepping towards the faucet, i nearly lost my balance. very awkward. Also, the water pressure wasnt great. The A/​C worked well and the room got nice and cold. Thje price point ($ 65+tax) was also good. We basically only came to the room to shower and go to bed as we were visiting friends and family that were staying on Ft. Myers beach.

1 star. Couches gross. Horrible coffee. Had to switch rooms 3 times (due to pee and dirt stains on the bed, wrong bed type, and unmade room). Once we got an ok room it was clean but when we went into the bathroom, there was pee on the ring and on the floor. Beds seemed cleaned. They gave us a free extra King room because they didn’t have a double available. Allowed late checkout for free due to the inconveniences. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast and large pool. This hotel would be good if they had better housekeeping staff, refinish the walkways where there was rust and just overall wear and tear. You would think that with the name, and their advertisements, they would want the guest to expect what they hype about on TV. Not so much for us.

I am a Elite Member with LQ Returns, stay in La Quinta’s all over the country and have for 9+ years. First time to this location and I will not return nor suggest this location to anyone I know. We stayed one night. After checking in, we had to switch rooms as our door would not shut not safety latch properly. Lizards (Which is common with SW Florida) crawling over the bed. Old lint covered the bottom of the bed. Carpet was musty and felt dirty. Used underwater laying on the hallway floor. The desk help was nice, warm and greeting was great! Pool area is great and nice! Rooms are horrible.

I had stayed here before that’s why I booked it this weekend. the hotel looks
was pricey for what we got. if they give you a room facing the gas station it’s noisy you can hear the traffic all night. the pillows are terrible. the free breakfast was waffles and toast. where they had the free breakfast was dark. the room was blah. the shower didn’t work we couldn’t get it to medium I boiled like a lobster .the shower is tiny. its far from restaurants unless you eat at sanibel. will not be returning. wi f I was terrible.

We booked a king room for seven nights, but checked out after one night! If it wasn’t already late at night, we would have left immediately!
Upon arrival to the hotel, the rude desk clerk, Nicole, informed me that I would need to pick the 2 days that I wanted my room to be cleaned and when I told her that I wanted it cleaned every day and she told me that was not possible!
We are traveling with our 2 dogs in a beach town and like everywhere I have EVER stayed, I want my room cleaned every day! She confirmed that I was NOT informed of this policy when I booked this room at the La
. This is just not acceptable!
When I asked if we could move from the second floor to the first floor starting night 2, Nicole refused to look to see if that was possible!
We got to the room only to see poo and pee stains all over the carpet and the couch! The room is so gross and we are paying $ 129/​night. Just before we went to sleep, we found 2 roaches in the bathroom!
We left the next day and went to another pet friendly big chain hotel that services our room everyday and it is clean with no bugs!

I’m honestly surprised at the reviews for this hotel! We just finished a stay here and it was lovely. La Quinta is our hotel of choice while traveling, and we weren’t disappointed with this one. The lady who checked us in was very warm and inviting, and our room was clean and inviting. After we got settled in our room, we headed down to the pool — because I’ll be honest, the #1 reason I picked this hotel is because of the –amazingly– huge saltwater pool and hot tub. We had no problems with towels, which were stocked plentifully and replenished as needed, and the ONLY downside was the pool water was a bit cold — but once I got used to it, it was perfect for a warm November day! The breakfast was standard continental breakfast fare, but they kept it stocked and fresh. Our room was made up nicely the next day, and everything was in order. Today, we had to leave extra early, and we couldn’t remember if breakfast started at 5 or 6 — so when we called to ask, the man at the front said it started at 6, but he could tell we were up early and good to go so he’d get it set up for us early. Sure enough, 10 minutes later it was freshly stocked, and we were able to fill up before our drive back to the airport and long flight back to Seattle!
Really, my only complaint (other than the cold pool, haha) is that the bathroom, while large, was a bit dark — there’s no light over half of it, so it was dark in the shower. The shower’s water pressure was dismal at best. The bathroom also had a pocket door, which I think is charming but could see how that would be awkward for a group. Funnily enough, the rest of the bathroom was –very– large and very nice, so this was a hit and miss!
Overall though, our stay here was very pleasant and we’d definitely stay again if ever in the area!

Live here locally and was having remodeling done. My family and I have been staying here for years on vacation and it is good for a short stay. Sommer at the front desk has been more than helpful with everything! Hate to say it tho, this place is going downhill. It’s clean enough, but it could use alittle help (and updating). Great location.

I expect to get what I paid for. But this experience was definitely less than what I paid for.
At first, the front desk lady was very friendly and helpful. The pool area is very spacious and nice too. There weren’t any pools towels so my friend asked the front desk lady for some, and was told she would bring fresh towels out. Those never came.
Once we got to our room we noticed that it didn’t smell too fresh. It smelled like cigarette smoke and thought maybe we were given a smoking room. We headed down to the pool and when we came back into the room we agreed– definitely a smoking room. I called the front desk, spoke to the same lady (only one there), very rudely, she said there wasn’t anything she could do for us expect send up a bottle of air freshener (picture provided). She also made a point at saying the hotel is all smoke free, and no one is allowed to smoke. I guess that’ll have to do I thought. While I had her on the phone I also asked for an extra towel (it was four of us in the room and was only provided three provided). She answered me back with an «mhm.»
Ultimately the air freshener did nothing, and as I was getting ready for bed I noticed the fire/​smoke detectors (picture provided) were extremely yellow– meaning that room at some point contained a lot of cigarette smoke. Now, this just leads me to believe at some point this room used to be a smoking room, and it clearly all still lingers.
Last but not least, our bathroom door did not shut all the way and therefor did not latch either. That certainly was very uncomfortable with four people in a room.
All in all were glad it was just for one night.

You get what you pay for. The hotel itself is pleasing such as the large pool/​hottub dining area. And even a ping pong table which was great. The room was okay. Nothing to brag or complain about. Its as average as you can get. The hotel can get a rowdy crowd with baseball teams staying and at times the pool was pretty much unusable. Close to Sanibel Island Overall it was an average experience for a good price!

Rude front desk employee. My debit card was charged twice and no one seemed to be able to do anything about it and didn’t seem to care. Rude about the whole situation. Room smelled very musty. The pool was big and pretty nice.

We normally like La Quintas, and this was an OK choice. The room was large and well appointed. However, the air conditioner was slightly noisy, the breakfast was worse than we are accustomed to (but might be typical for La Quintas), the shower broken so it was hard to figure out where hot water was, and the beds and pillows were uncomfortable. The beds seemed to be of good quality, and we got two full queens, but neither my wife nor I ended up sleeping well.
The location was convenient… close to Sanibel and the Wa Ke Hachee rec center, and not too far from Ft Myers.

Spent the night here since I was taking the Key West Express that was a couple of miles away. The room was very clean and the bathroom was huge. There was complimentary continental breakfast at 6am the morning so it was nice have that before we left for the boat at 6:30. The only drawback I saw for the place was the location of the elevator. It sets back behind the rooms near the courtyard. Had to drag the luggage from the parking lot to that elevator. Besides that issue it was a perfect place for the wife and I to stay at.

Ideally set right before the causeway to Sanibel and Captiva Island, Florida, this hotel stands as an alternative to the ultra expensive cottages and villas on the islands. Although there were some dog friendly accommodations in these islands, most were on a «call ahead» basis. Having stayed at another La Quinta property in Naples, this seems like a safe bet.
The hotel is a three story U-​shaped property with full liquor bar in the lobby and a pool in the middle. The lobby also houses a small fitness center. There are elevators, soda, and ice machines throughout the property. Most of the lawn is covered in mulch but there is a little grassy patch by the pool and in front of the hotel for our furry friends who prefer grass to do their business.
The check in process was effortless and welcoming. It is nice to see front desk agents working together without one requesting a task from the other. One agent check me in on the computer, the other got the key package ready. Good teamwork. The agent was kind enough to point out main hotel amenities and offered to suggest dining options. I deferred dining options to later after we settled into the room. Upon return there was a crowd. We conferred with social media once again and made up our minds on a particular place.
There are ample parking spaces around the hotel. The rooms either face the pool or parking lot. Our room had a big king size bed, with chaise lounge, large shower bath, and enormous vanity space. All expected amenities were present. It appeared very clean until next morning when we noticed flea on our dog and parts of the carpet. We notified the front desk upon check out. Being a dog owner, I am not alarmed by this incident. This infestation is so hidden it could come without anyone knowing. One moment that room is bug free, the next a dog checked in carrying eggs, next day infestation. No big deal. The front desk radioed housekeeping immediately while I was still there and I am sure they fumigated the room.
As we walked out of our room in the morning there was a nice housekeeper who said «Good Morning» with a smile. That was a nice touch. Happens we forgot something in the room and she had to reopen the door. The service in this hotel was very friendly and accommodating. The location was perfect if visiting Sanibel or Captiva Island. I would stay here again if my adventures led me back to these parts.

The room was extremely small, shower nozzle was hard to turn, toilet did not drain right, no roll-​away beds available, the walls are paper thin, breakfast was mediocre and hard to navigate in such a large crowd, plus no fresh fruit available. Would not stay here again.

I stayed here as part of a convention that was being held at the spectacular Sanibel Harbour Marriott (superfluous u aside). Unfortunately that property was sold out by the time I was allowed to register for the convention, as was the Residence Inn within walking distance of the La Quinta. This La Quinta is the unwanted, red-​headed spawn of a Motel 6 and Country Inn & Suites. I recommend seeking other properties. The staff is friendly, the rooms are below average; I just got a «crappy» vibe surveying the property.
