James was born in Wisconsin and began his working career as a carpenter and was soon promoted to foreman of a government program for which he remained at for 11 years until he was personally asked by Herb Kolher of Kolher Company to build him a custom winter home on Upper Captiva. James accepted the job and was staying temporarily on Pine Island as the home was being constructed. That is when he met his wife, Teresa, who was born and raised on Pine Island and was working for a blind company out of Cape Coral. When the Kolher home was completed and it was time for James to move back home, he proposed to Teresa and they decided they would make Pine Island their home. They were wed in 1996 and had their first son together in 1998 and decided it was time to start their own business. Coastal Blinds was incorporated in 1998, the couple are doing wonderful with the business home based. They are happily home schooling their son while providing the service their customers deserve.
