Koa Koa Yogurt

Pleasantly surprised by this fro-​yo place I have passed by numerous times but have never been tempted to try. I rated this place four-​stars because of the quality of the fro-​yo. The dulce de leche is so tasty and creamy you might mistake it for soft serve ice cream. Minus 1 star for the ambiance: there was one very bored cashier on staff with not many people in the store. The downtime could be used to clean up the self-​serve station: drips of yogurt everywhere, styrofoam cups stacked on top of a table in plastic bags, not enough serving spoons for each of the toppings. Also, it would be helpful to have labels placed by each of the toppings so that we didn’t have to ask the cashier about each and every one. This will not deter me from going back though. I am looking forward to my next visit there.

The place itself is small and unclean in appearance, however the frozen yogurt is full of flavor and delicious. The young girl who worked there refused to refill any of the toppings, but the taste really tops everything. I had the pomegranate and my friend had the sweet coconut and we were in love.

Yummy yummy. I wish this place wasn’t so far from me because I could eat it everyday. Plus you can mix the flavors & add your favorite toppings. The staff was also super sweet. Can’t wait to get back there.

Small self frozen yogurt place also sells some cupcakes. It’s located in the strip mall, very convenient parking.
It was weekday evening, store was empty.
Had enough seating area, various frozen yogurts for self service. Vanilla, chocolate, euro tart, dulce de leche, pistachio etc. Had several toppings but fruits weren’t fresh. It could be because I was there after 9pm. Frozen yogurt was good but disappointed with very limited toppings.
Staff was friendly, cash only.

I knew I should’ve walked out the moment I walked in. Poor selection on flavors. Very few choices. Topping were HORRIBLE!
The selection was only a few. It’s the first Fro yo I’ve been to that doesn’t have chocolate crunch! And I’ve been to over 40 spots. Then as I’m starring at the poor choices trying to chooses I see a worm in the graham cracker. I told the owner who scooped it out and examined it for a while. He then puts down the container to charge me and much to my surprised he Charged me!!! I don’t know if he ever dumped out the container bc I walked out! I’m never coming back.

Both their yogurt and topping section were seriously lacking. Stopped by after Hiram’s a few weeks ago for some dessert, and I felt duped by the four star Unilocal review.
Their original tart flavor was pretty good, and the young cashier was friendly as hell, but seriously, this shop needs to step up their game. Three stars for the original tart and the cashier girl alone.
Also, don’t stop here if you are looking for coffee as you get served a K-​Cup! What’s next, a self serve K-​Cup coffee shop? Oh hell no.

Self Serve! I Love It! But I still haven’t learned my lesson — which is stick to what you know you love.
Again, I put a little of every flavor.
Red Velvet is disgusting!
Pistachio is good but like Ice Cream.
Peanut Butter — Yum! Def would get this again
But alas, my fav all time fav is Tart Plain — and dayum, it’s good here!
Can’t wait to come back and get a tub of Plain Tart! … and a side of PB!

I love this fro-​yo spot because it is self-​serve with a good selection of flavors and toppings and a nice price to match. They offer great looking cupcakes too (never tried, though). My one gripe — they only offer a Keurig machine for coffee. If they had a full service coffee menu like Red Mango, I’d definitely go more often.

Awesomely sweet cashier (helpful, too) as soon as you walk through the door.
Granted, it is self-​service but I prefer it that way so I can control the portion (hehehe).
The first time I went here, I went a little crazy with mixing flavors (vanilla, chocolate, and red velvet) and added tons of sprinkles and fresh fruit (blueberries and strawberries) that my cup came out to $ 7.xx — ouch! BUT… but it was well worth it.
My friend and I sat at one of the tables, looked at the drawings (saw a few famous memes) and spent about 30 mins talking. Granted, it was empty when we arrived but after we finished our cups, we spent a few minutes extra inside and we weren’t asked to leave (which unfortunately, some places are known to do that.)
Overall, I’d recommend Koa Koa. I would have liked to see more flavors but there’s nothing wrong with plain vanilla then overloading on toppings hehehe.

Christmas decorations on ceiling and kids’ artwork on wall (I think the owner’s kids and nephews and nieces did them).
After all that, the yogurt is very good and the place is quite clean.
So, I’m a regular but I DON’T EAT BEFORE I PAY. I swear to God.
They have 2 or 3 places in NJ, now.

Sadly Koa Koa has been slacking. They stopped updating their frozen yogurt and toppings option. Most of the old popular flavors are gone. I don’t know what happened. I used to enjoy going there.

This is my go to fro-​yo place. I like that it is self-​serve so I can control how much yogurt I get. If I recall correctly its .55c/​oz. My cup usually comes out to about $ 4 with some almonds and granola.
The place is very clean and toppings are always refilled right away. It gets packed over the weekends but I have never had a problem finding a table.
My favorite flavors so far: original, raspberry/​pomegranate tart and mango tart. As you can see I like the tart flavors but there are others like vanilla, chocolate, dulce de leche, etc.

Lots of flavors to choose from, toppings were pretty fresh, but nothing special. Plus the woman working there wasn’t very friendly. Even though the DIY is fun, I’ve enjoyed my Pinkberry experiences more.

I have family that lives in the area, and they took me here on a visit home. I have to say, ever since I have been hooked. I love frozen yogurt and they have a huge selection of flavors each day to mix and match as you please. I like the fact that you get to make your own, so you can control how much of a flavor you want and how much topping you get. You pay by the weight, and the prices are very reasonable. They also have a frequent buyer card that they swipe each time you visit so you earn $ towards free yogurt.
I love the cookies and cream flavor and the pistacio… they even had a red velvet flavor one time that was really good. If you are into the tart yogurt, they have two varieties and they are both decent. The toppings bar is awesome too… everything from mochi bites — to fresh fruit — to kids cerials and traditional toppings like candies, nuts, and cookies. The yogurt is really quiet tasty, good texture and doesn’t have that super fake taste — which is nice for a product made from a mass produced mix.
The atmosphere is ok. They have squeezed in a few tables with some funky, colorful plastic chairs. They also have some very funky light fixtures. My main issue with this place is the guy who is always at the counter. He is creepy, and kinda rude. He is also really nasty if you want to taste something, and you better not want to taste more than one flavor or he will yell at you and refuse to give you a tasting cup. I was once in there and this couple came in and bought 4 huge yogurts to take home to their family, and as they were walking out the husband noticed a flavor he didn’t see before so his wife said he should ask to taste it, and even though they hadn’t tasted anything before and they just bought over $ 30 of yogurt the guy at the counter wouldn’t let him try it because «they already paid». They vowed never to come back because he was so rude, and I can’t say that I blame them. Also, see JM’s review below where he found a hair in his toppings and the jerk behind the counter didn’t want to let him make a new one and was rude about it… not surprised. The rude guy also opens whenever he feels like, so if you are hoping to get yogurt at 12:00 when they are supposed to open you better hope he is in a good mood because if he isn’t you might be waiting until 12:30 — 1:00… and he isn’t the owner so if I was in charge I would be kinda mad about his behavior… I hate to go on such a tear about it, but I just get really irritated when I see someone acting that way. All the other employees are nice, but he always seems to be there too…

This was my first attempt with frozen yogurt and I am HOOKED. I get cravings often for this stuff! I expected it to taste similar to ice cream but it’s very smooth and is more like soft-​serve ice cream.
They have a few machines with regular flavors; vanilla, chocolate, pistachio, euro tart but also have some special ones such as cheesecake, some type of fruit (strawberry, mango), cookies&cream, and seasonal flavors (pumpkin). Normal people will probably just pick one or two flavors but I like to compile 4 or more flavors on top of one another and make some sort of delicious Frankenstein concoction.
They have a good selection of toppings. I always rock mine with sprinkles, chocolate chips and mochi pieces. Heaven! Take as much as you want but it adds up quick, usually around $ 10 for my fix.

Located in the next shopping complex from School Zone, it’s a decent alternative as School Zone tends to be packed most of the time.
It was a relatively warmer day, and we felt like getting some frozen yogurt. You serve yourself with the yogurt and topping selection they have. My favorite is still the European (original style). My friend tried the capuccino and said it was decent. Pisctacchio, on the other hand, not so much.
I still prefer Pinkberry… but no Pinkberry in NJ yet.

I love choosing my own quantity because I am a bit overwhelmed price-​wise elsewhere. Plus, Koa offers more varieties than Pinkberry and Red Mango. I’ve only tried the Strawberry and Mango, but I remember seeing coffee, chocolate, etc. I’m a creature of habit, so I’m not sure if I’ll ever venture with those choices, but maybe I’ll do a swab from each flavor in one cup. Why not, it’s allowed!

Best thing to happen to Fort Lee! Lots of flavors and toppings, a great staff and convenient location. But be warned, you’re doomed to run into someone from high school.
My favorite part of Koa Koa is that it’s DIY. So you can have a $ 2 cup or you can have a $ 7 cup (ahem, Nikki!). The cups are large enough to fit two servings so feel free to share (with Yurina and Bami). The original flavor, and even the european flavor, are more tart than pinkberry, which is what I love.
Also, if you’re deciding between Koa Koa and School Zone, it’s not even a competition. Koa Koa wins, hands down (got that, Joe?). School Zone smells funny and the yogurt is much sweeter. And their fruit toppings don’t look or taste as fresh.

This place has jumped on the tarty froyo bandwagon, while also offering flavors of the more traditional frozen yogurt.
Their pistachio frozen yogurt is by far the best. It’s savory, but not overly so nor is it salty like the actual nut. It has a fairly muted, nicely roasty/​nutty taste. And the texture is awesome. Cookies and cream is a bit too sweet and dull. Their green tea frozen yogurt is good but standard. None of these three flavors are tarty frozen yogurt.
Now, the reason why I give this place only three stars is because their TARTY frozen yogurt isn’t that great. I was disappointed with the texture and flavor. Texture was too icy, and the only distinct flavor was «sour». Koa Koa is no where near the awesomely flavored creaminess of Red Mango.
In summary, go here to try the more uniquely flavored frozen yogurts, but stay away from the tarty froyo! If I could, I would give this place five stars for being self serve and also for the variety of frozen yogurts in general (but alas that’s not an option).

Now this place is every fat girls dream. First you have a vast selection of frozen yogurt flavors. Pick what you like. One if you are playing it safe. Mix two if you are more adventurous. And three flavors if you are just a little crazy. Then you move on to the toppings. Now this is where your inner fat girl on a rampage may need a friend to say, «Fatty, are you sure you want that?» My remark would be, «It’s frozen yogurt jerk!»
I settled on the cookies and cream and chocolate yogurts mixed together. I topped them off with M&Ms, kit kats, and CAPTIN CRUNCH! Now that is some good frozen yogurt! Every bite was devoured with enthusiasm and joy. Doesn’t get much better than that.
Oh wait it does. One is not confined to sizes. You pay by however much your frozen yogurt «creation» weighs. So all you anorexics can pretend you actually eat and you bulimics can fill up before you hit the bathrooms. It’s win win for everyone.
