FirstMed of NJ Urgent Care Center

I had a great experience at FirstMed. I was suffering from a throat infection and needed immediate attention. The facility is new, clean, and staff is very courteous and knowledgeable. I was admitted within 5 minutes after completing the forms. Dr. Kim treated me with great respect and he really spends a great deal of time to understand and treat the problem. I had couple tests done to find the root cause and prescribed antibiotics. I was there for less than 30 minutes and I must say I don’t remember having such a great experience at another medical facility.
Overall an exceptional facility and a great staff to complement the entire process. I highly recommend this place to everybody.

They charged $ 50 for just a cheap regular bandage which I can get from any pharmacy for 5 bucks. They didn’t mention this charge when I was there, so I did’t know about it until I got the bill a month later. They also recommended an X-​ray but I didn’t get the results until I called several times and got an answer 2 weeks later. Each time I called they said they’d contact the imaging center and then give me the results that same day, but finally I had to call the imaging center myself and give them FirstMed’s fax number directly before I got any answer.

Shocking. I had a great experience here. It was a Sunday so my doctor wasn’t available and I had to get some antibiotics ASAP.
Called in to see if they take my insurance. They did. Very pleasant phone call. Came in. No wait. Filled out the normal forms. Sat for literally 2 mins. Got called in. Met with a doctor. He asked me a couple questions to really understand my situation and to best prescribe me the right medicine. And he gave me two different types of antibiotics to see if I developed a resistance to one type so he prescribed me another to try. He was extremely helpful and patient and thorough. Great experience.
Then a couple days later. I get a call from another doctor and she was explaining how the one prescription I got wouldn’t work because like the doctor I met with advised– I developed a resistance to it!!! Awesome that they know that because they did a sensitivity test and saw which meds would work and which wouldn’t. So she said I should take the other prescription and thank god I took that first and not the other ones. I am now pain free and really impressed with the service and follow up here.
I liked them so much that I almost want to make them my primary doctor!

Dr Kim was EXCELLENT at helping me with an infection, which I had let go on too long. Had to do some I&D. Extremely happy that it is getting better. Went again couple of days later for a follow up, and my only concern is that I may not have thanked the guys at First Med enough. Extremely pleased!

Back again… As I’m reading these comments below, I’m thinking to myself, «did they go to the same place I did???» I am so impressed with this care center. As a business traveler, I’ve gone to other urgent care centers in other cities and can honestly say that I am so grateful to have Dr Mahidashi practicing here. I would probably follow her anywhere! If you need someone to listen to your concerns, if you are feeling sick and need someone to help you feel better, I recommend this FirstMed.

I was really disappointed with this place. I was the only person in the lobby but still had to wait almost 2 hours to see a nurse practitioner and someone training to become a nurse practitioner. I was expecting to see an actual doctor. The place was filthy and the staff only seemed interested in singing the awful music playing throughout the office and loudly discussing their relationship issues. I was suffering from an excruciating migraine and I still am 2 days later. The nurse practitioner seemed like she wanted to just get my money, pass me off to a neurologist (I’m newer to the area and it takes weeks to get into a neurologist. They’re also not an option on an emergency basis, especially after about 4:30 on weekdays) and get me out of there. Unfortunately I’ve been dealing with migraines for 13 years and have had a lot of urgent care & ER visits over the years. This was my worst experience so far. I left in in more pain than I arrived in. I’m not sure if the practitioners were unwilling to help or just didn’t have the training to help.
I typically only leave good reviews. I understand that even professionals have tough days. However this experience was so bad I felt like I needed to share it.

I was a walk-​in this Saturday morning around 10am for a physical exam required by my new insurance. I was all done and out of the office by 11:15, very impressed by the time efficiency. The office is very clean. All the staff was very nice and caring. I do not handle having blood drawn well at all and they had very good bedside manner. They had the paperwork required by my insurance filled out by the end of my appointment. They even scheduled a follow-​up appointment with me to go over the results. So glad I read the positive reviews on this facility which helped me choose FirstMed over EmergiMed (cliffside park). Very positive experience!

The wait time is terrible! Be ready to wait at least 1 hr to see a doctor. Every time I came here (at least 4 – 5 times) I had to wait at least 30 – 40 minutes in the waiting area (btw, no one else is waiting in the waiting area) and then another 10 minutes in the room. This is definitely an urgent care not a primary care center — if you are looking to have a physician as a primary care doctor, look elsewhere. My MIL has diabetes and hyperlidemia who didn’t get blood work done for more than 6 months, doctor said there’s no need for any blood work. This patient is also has uncontrolled hyperlipidemia and diabetes. I don’t understand his rationale? As soon as I heard that, I switched her primary care physician. As for me, he was supposed to test for specific factor in my blood for my diagnosis — that was the main reason for my visit but he didn’t!!! They also make you come back to go over the blood work. I had no issues except for vitamind D deficiency — they could’ve told me that over the phone get some vitamin D OTC. After 9 months later, I get a bill from them stating I need to pay copays. When I called the billing department, some rude lady came on the phone saying «insurance company says you owe us copays.» Meanwhile, I get my explanation of benefits from my insurance company saying I owe them $ 0 not even copay. What a waste of time and energy. There are so many physicians in the area, what was I thinking even going there… smh. There are something really lacking with the efficiency and professionalism in this office.

An update on the review =) I would highly recommend attending another medical facility. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions on customer service and Unilocal is for the distinct purpose of writing and giving other individuals feedback of whether or not a place was worth it or not. The manager of FirstMed felt the absolute need to justify herself and her employees bc of my previous comment here on Unilocal.She claims that my statements were exaggerated, as she was listening to everything that was occuring out at the front desk (She was in her office). I still 100% stand by what I said. When facilities and businesses see negative reviews here on Unilocal (whether the customer or consumer was in the «wrong»), managers will often apologize and ask them to privately email them regarding the situation. I think it is highly unprofessional that this manager felt the need to write about my thyroid check up here on Unilocal.Also, she was not present at the office when I came back the next 2 days. She clearly consulted with the receptionist that I had the «issue» with after reading this thorough and negative review. Was I happy? Absolutely. I had walked in with a friend and we were talking. I did not come in to be a patient again. I came in to pick up my thyroid results to bring to my PCP.

Also, how do you know that I was not specific about what I asked for? I did not speak with you. I think that it is truly amazing that stand by your workers. However, I was CLEAR. And it doesn’t matter whether it is an inconvenience or not – That was not my point. I can pay cash with no problem and did on the spot. However, the receptionist was aloof and rude… That is what irritated me and that is the reason for my negative review.
All in all, I stand 100% by what I previously stated. I also will not tolerate misleading attacks on my character and my intentions. I however, will apologize if I misunderstood the two Korean receptionists talking under their breath. However, I know what I heard and if in case, I did not hear them correctly… The way that particular receptionist handled the situation after was absolutely terrible. The American nurse however did react and respond well to the situation.

Had to come here because I had a pinched nerve. I got there at 9ish and was done by 10. I was seen almost immediately after my paperwork. The staff was lovely and so caring. Truly professional!

Good place, friendly staff. As for waits, I’ve never not had to wait in a doctors office. It’s quick and easy and Dr. Kim is very attentive and informative.

Slow I have been waiting s half hour and no one has seen me I’m pretty sure they forgot about me

They should call them self «waiting or slow center».
I went for Urgent situation and there was only one patient in the waiting room. That was me. But I wait again at the room.
I wait and wait and wait. Finally, nurse call my name And bring me to the exam room. wait… wait… nurse came and said Doctor will be soon. I asked why I wait for so long. Dr. Kim is taking the X ray. What !!! Only one Doctor.
Doctor does everything himself and I just wait and wait… I had a terrible pain. I should go some other center where more doctors r working. It took only 5 minutes to get the prescription, I wait for and hour… if you r urgent do not go there.

The most UNCARING place. I called there late this afternoon to find out what time they were open until. They told me 8:00 PM. When I called there about 7:00, they told me that they only take walkins until 7:30 PM. I told them that they NEVER told me that when I called up in the afternoon inquiring about their hours, nor was it on the advertisement they sent me. I told the girl who I spoke to there that my mother was very sick & needed to come over there. I asked her for directions. She purposely gave me the wrong directions so I wouldn’t find the place since they didn’t want to be bothered. I called her again when I couldn’t find it, & she AGAIN gave me the wrong directions. When I called back again asking WHERE their place was, & telling them that my 90 year old mother was in the car & very sick, they (He said he is name was Mike) refused to see my mother — after I took her out so sick in the freezing cold (35 degrees) to go to them. I begged Mike to let the doctor see my mother, yet he refused.
Just goes to show you how compassionate they are to people. I would stay away from this place & advise everyone to STAY AWAY — horrible place! The good reviews on here are probably written by the people who work there, own the place, or by some of their friends or relatives

After not feeling well for about 6 weeks I decided to find a clinic in the Cliffside Park area that would welcome me without insurance and a place that looked and functioned legitimately.
I walked in in Saturday morning around 9:45am, filled out relevant paper work and within 15 minutes Dr. Kim and his apprentice, who studied at St. George’s university in Grenada tended to me. He was courteous, warm and asked in depth about my medical history and how I felt.
He advised that I take a full physical and blood work which included: chest X-​ray, comprehensive blood work, urine test, an EKG and physical. I was out of the facility in about and hour, and without insurance it costed me around $ 300.
I have a follow up in a few days time to get the results. All in all, a stress free experience and I have more of a piece of mind today, which you can’t buy. Highly recommended for emergency and proper care.

Before my husband said «Clinic» should be your last choice… however, my mother’s back too hurt to even fell asleep and she doesn’t have any primary doctor (just visiting me in US). So I have no other choice so just wanna try This First Med walk in clinic.
It’s surprised me a lot! It is a clean and cozy clinic. The Front desk girls are very nice and Dr. Kim was really professional and his prescription really worked on my mother’s back! First Med really changed me and my husband idea of «Clinic»…haha By the way, for no insurance patients — the bill is ver reasonable!

Dr. Kim is a great doctor! I had never been to first med before and had to go because I do not have a primary care physician in the area. I had a large infected cyst on my back and dr. Kim immediately reacted saying it had to come out right away. He numbed it first and then went on with the dirty job of removing it. He and his staff were very caring and continued to make sure I was alright.
When I reacted bad toward the end of the procedure with some vomiting they were very comforting and caring. I would highly recommend this facility. Great care!

I regret not writing this review sooner.
My first visit was due to a respiratory illness. I was seen within 15 minutes, maybe less. The office staff was very efficient in processing my insurance and personal information, and with the initial intake. Very personable, well-​mannered and diverse staff members.
What impressed me most was that Dr. Kim listened to all of my concerns without interrupting and then addressed them all. I did not feel judged for asking any questions and he treated me with much respect. He did a thorough assessment the good old fashioned way, without sending me for unnecessary tests. There was no hassle and I don’t think I was in the office too long.
Dr. Kim actually called me a couple of days later to see how I was doing! Who does that anymore? It’s not too often that you actually feel holistically cared for by a physician. Any time that I have been ill, I always received a personal phone call from Dr. Kim. He will remind me of any side effects to look for if taking a medication, and to see how I’m responding to it, and if I’m feeling any better. His instructions are clear and I know I can contact him if needed.
I found out that this office can be used as a primary care provider and I intend on using them as such.

I’ve had aches and pains from injuries in the past and figured I’d finally get them looked at. Conveniently in a shopping plaza with a pastry/​coffee shop and BCD tofu place parking was easy (I figured it’d be a pain to find parking etc).
The waiting room was much nicer than I expected. (I suppose I was used to the old dreary waiting rooms with crap carpet)
Often we deal with doctors that passively listen which leave us feeling like we were left in some kind of factory to pump out. The doctor actually took time to figure out options as I didn’t really want to jump straight away to opiates or surgery.
Refreshing to deal with competent doctors and still leave their office without the DMV feeling.

Where do you go when your doctor can’t squeeze you in or is too busy on the golf course to tend to patients? Go to an Urgent Care Center aka Minute Clinic!
There are those that say that a cold will be with you for 7 days whether you are medicated or not. Regardless, I’d rather suffer less during that time which usually means finding someone that is going to prescribe the good stuff to me. I’ve been to several CVS Minute Clinics which have been very helpful for me in the past especially when I was travelling far from home and the thought of going to the Emergency Room seemed a bit like overreacting to what was probably something not that big a deal.
Generally speaking, I consider the following cases to be prime examples of when you want to get to an Urgent Care Center:
Allergic Rash
Hacking Cough
The Flu
Strep Throat
Bronchitis
Pneumonia
Over the Counter meds just won’t kick these ailments to the curb. While your body may just be looking for some much needed rest, sometimes you also need some antibiotics give that final one-​two punch to knock out whatever has been knocking you on your ass.
After suffering through late-​day Friday and all day Saturday, I finally gave in first thing Sunday morning and I wish that I hadn’t waited so long. The doctor on duty ran me through a battery of exams to pinpoint exactly what was wrong with me. He swabbed me for mucus and my throat, checked all of my vitals, and even did a chest x-​ray to confirm if I was carrying pnuemonia or even worse that I was walking around with Walking Pneumonia. Fortunately, all of my tests came up negative and it looked as if I just had an acute bronchial infection which would be cleared up with some antibiotics.
Another case that the OTC meds just couldn’t clear. With FirstMED just down the block, it will easily be my most convenient answer when I can’t get to my doctor. FirstMED should be your first choice when you need emergency medical care.
