I love this place so much. I have been a hair model 3 times already which means I only paid for products used. I have been amazed every time by Amina’s cutting skills and Jacki’s coloring. They are truly top of the line and they were pretty much experimenting on me. Amina first gave me the most precise and sharp bob that I’ve ever seen. I’ve wanted grey/​silver hair for a while but have been dying my hair black for over a decade. Bleaching my hair was definitely risky business but Jacki managed to do it without ruining it! I love it! If you’re going to process your hair GO TO JACKI.

NEVER AGAIN! Before the haircut started I showed two of my photos to make sure the hairdresser understood what I wanted so there will be no miscommunication. I asked for the same haircut i used to have. I asked to cut it straight and just bland in the ends. Couple of times I repeated «PLEASE DON’T DO LAYERS, I REALLY DON’T LIKE LAYERS.» Instead in front a very thick piece of my hair was just chopped off and it seems like I have thick chopped layers all over and it is after I clearly said I HATE LAYERS. It is been already two months and I still can’t even put it in a ponytail everything just hangs out. I am really disappointed it looks like I did my haircut by myself. Now there is nothing I can do with it but let it grow which will take a long time. I never felt this much upset about my hair. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYBODY… WORST HAIRCUT I HAVE EVER GOT

This place is my go-​to for all things beauty. if you want to get your brows into WOW shape, Nikole is the woman for you. I have been with Nikole for the past 10 years. She is my brow guru. I have thick, hard to manage brows and am very particular on who shapes them. I am not into threading, and I have been to THE BEST in NYC and have spent hundreds on dollars on my brows. Once I found Nikole, there was no need to stray into the city. The price is right and the job is perfection. Thank you Nikole for keeping me looking on point, always.

Nikole has transformed my skin and brows with her amazing talent. I travel over 30 minutes to 5 Salon and spa because nobody is better than Nikole. I will never let anyone else touch my skin or brows. Nikole’s warm personality shines through at every visit and she loves sharing her knowledge about skin care with her clients. At every appointment I learn a new tip or trick.
Before this salon and specifically Nikole were recommended to me, I suffered from very dry skin and a lot of breakouts. After my first facial with Nikole, my breakouts were quickly a thing of the past and my skin was glowing. Nikole really takes her time. She really genuinely cares about her clients and her work.
This place is the BEST!!!
Do not waste your time or money going to any OTHER salon or any other skin care specialist.
Nikole is a true artist and my brows have been on point ever since the first time Nikole shaped them for me. I get so many compliments about my glowing skin as well as my celebrity worthy brows! Do yourself a favor and get a facial and eyebrow shaping with Nikole! It is life changing!

Just visited this salon for the first time and I couldn’t be happier I found it. I had long hair and my ends were in the worst shape they’ve ever been. The stylist I’ve been going to for 10 years, moved out of state and I’ve been terrified of letting someone else cut my hair. He recommended Ona, who happens to be the Creative Director of this salon, and she did an amazing job! She cut my hair just below shoulder length and it looks and feels amazing! Additionally, they accommodated a last minute request for an appointment. The service is absolutely amazing and the salon is beautiful and has great energy. There’s also valet parking, which is very convenient. I highly recommend this salon!

It was a bit of a shaky start. I was trying to go from Box dyed black hair to a brown to white blond ombré! This was my first time dying my hair anything but black and dark brown.
Jackie did an EXCELLENT JOB I wouldnt go to any one else ever in my entire life!
Even though I was there on two saturdays and practically from open to close, I had a great time and know it was money well spent. Everyone is soo nice! The employees are all Artists! Stylist who will humble them selves to serve you food and drink and provide anything to make you comfortable.
Even the vallet is an enjoyable experience! I felt like i was in such great hands even with the difficult task of transforming my hair.
I look forward to my next visit.

Amina is a blessing! I don’t know what I would do without her. She has been doing my hair now for over 2 years. I will not let anyone else touch my hair. She does exactly what I want when I need her to and is full of ideas when I’m up for a change. Last year, I got engaged and decided I wanted to grow my hair as long as possible for the big day. She helped me all along the way and is the ONLY person I have ever had trim my hair and not chop it all off!
Obviously, when it came time, choosing a hair stylist for my wedding day wasn’t a hard decision after my experience with Amina (and a serious blessing that it took one huge decision off my plate.) I wouldn’t have trusted anyone else. I must say, she went above and beyond even what I expected. I had no idea what I wanted to do… I was all over the place. She was so nice, calm, and patient. Most importantly, she kept me calm, gave me ideas, and talked me through every step of the way until we got it just the way I liked it. The final product was PERFECTION.
Long story short… it took me a long time to find someone I am so comfortable with. I am so glad to have found Amina! She’ll be my stylist for a long time to come for sure.

Amina Montoya is really a gem! I’ve been going to the same hairstylists my whole life, one from age 2 – 12, another from 12 – 20, and one more from age 20 until now. I have trust issues with people who have scissors aimed at my noggin.
Amina welcomed me very warmly and also did a great job styling my hair– I’m very particular with the way it gets layered and angled. You know how you can go to a salon, look your best walking out that day and then your hair goes downhill from there? This review is being written a week and a half after the cut and my hair still looks great. She gave me tips on how to manage and improve my hair. I will definitely be coming back for a long time.

I made an appointment for a haircut with Ona, the creative director of 5 Salon, after watching her do a big chop and cut at a curly hair event. I have naturally tightly curled/​coily hair and my fellow curlies know how hard it is to find a good stylist, get a good haircut and have your hair treated with some TLC instead of aggressive flat-​ironing. Ona does all of the above. They call her the Hair Saint for a reason (more on that later ;)!
The service at 5 Salon is excellent. The salon is spacious, stylish and clean. They offer valet parking, so all you have to do is pull up in front of the salon (no feeding the meter!). I was greeted by two friendly receptionists, one of whom escorted me upstairs to the salon floor and offered me something to drink while I waited for Ona. It wasn’t a long wait. Ona gave me a thorough consultation, getting to know my textures and asking about my hair care regimen. She pointed out some breakage and explained how often I should get my hair trimmed and why. Ona’s apprentice Cynthia (also fantastic!) shampooed my hair and gave me a scalp massage that almost put me to sleep. She talked to me about the products she was using and explained her shampoo technique. I won’t bore you with all the details of my visit (really, I could, but I would rather get outside and show off my new ‘do), but Ona not only gave me a great cut, she also took the time to model and explain her technique for applying product. I left with a head full of bouncy curls and anticipation of trying out everything I had learned. All of this in less than three hours!
I highly recommend Salon 5, and Ona’s services in particular. I live uptown, so it literally took 15 minutes to get to Fort Lee. Totally worth the toll :)

Great salon. Excellent, painless brazilan waxing by Angelica, eyebrow perfection by Nikole, exquisite eyelash extensions by CK, wonderful massages by Laura and expert, newest technology facials by Larissa. My go-​to pamper place.

I called, last minute, to try and get an appointment for a shellac manicure and spa French pedicure. Jennifer, at the desk, answered and was SO sweet and really worked to get me in!
I had Lauren for, both, my mani and pedi and she was fantastic! I’m expecting my first child and due next week and this is JUST the type of pampering that I needed.
The only problem I had was fitting in the pedicure seat with this big belly because the seat doesn’t recline back but Lauren really helped me stay comfortable!
I, usually, do my own shellac mani and pedicures because I am such a perfectionist (I always end up leaving a salon feeling like I could have done a better job) but, being 9 months pregnant and unable to reach my toes, I bit the bullet and came in… and I’m so happy that I did because my nails look fantastic and I left feeling so relaxed!
I will, definitely, be back.

I use Shelly for both my highlights and cut – she is amazing. I was hesitant at first because the salon is not cheap BUT it is worth it!!! I have been coming here for over 4 years now and the salon keeps improving their customer service. The valet always has my car ready for me even without me asking (not sure HOW he does it) I highly recommend Salon 5!

I had moved back into the area and found myself in need of a haircut, so my friend recommended her stylist Amina here at salon 5. I have never been too particular as to where I get my hair done, for me it did not matter what chair I sat in or who cut me, «just a little shorter, clean it up» is pretty universal. After this experience, however, I will never get my hair cut by anyone else. Amina was able to break me out of my normal ‘do’ and provide a haircut I was happy to show off, as opposed to one that was just there. Not only that, but our conversation surpassed the mundane small talk I was used to. Instead of just waiting for my cut to be done, I didn’t want to leave the chair! Amina was easy to talk to, and I could tell she was actually listening, not just responding. Amina has definitely secured my haircuts for life.

My review is based on my first and only experience at this salon back in October. I wanted to make an appointment with one particular stylist who came highly recommended, however, she was unavailable so I went with a shot in the dark for both cut and color. When I drove up to the salon I didn’t see anyone for valet and just sort of sat there for a minute when a man without any kind of identifying information on him, knocked on my window and asked if I needed valet. I told him no thank you and parked elsewhere, then when I got into the salon asked if that was the valet guy. He was indeed but whatever, wear a vest or something so that people know who they’re giving their car keys to! Valet I thought would be free but ended up costing $ 5 not including tip. After checking in with reception she told me to go upstairs, and I did. and basically sat there for awhile until I realized nobody knew whose client I was. After ten minutes I got up and searched for the colorist myself. Totally unprofessional and they should hire a runner or greeter to avoid this in the future. Also, I noticed the owner that some other reviewers mentioned and quite frankly did not find her to be all that friendly. She didn’t say a word to me but spent time schmoozing with the regulars. At this point I’m pretty much at a –1 in terms of stars but let me discuss the actual cut and color!
Noni colored my hair followed by a cut with Ona. For color it was just a simple job, going back to black but 3 days after I left the salon I noticed that Noni missed two significantly noticeable chunks of hair in the front that frame my face so I had to go back so –1 star for that. The cut with Ona I was told by reception would be amazing but the simple layers I asked for ended up looking very choppy. When I got home and tried styling myself it was virtually impossible. I had layers of all different lengths ALL over my head, it made absolutely no sense. In additon I started to discover the craziest split ends that I’ve ever seen in my life. Totally not cool after JUST getting a haircut! So –1 star for that.
I know many others have had positive reviews for this salon; hey that’s why I went there in the first place! But my experience was a bad one and felt the need to share with others who are trying to find a forever salon like I am.

I have struggled finding a stylist that understood my hair goals and was patient with my questions and pretty demanding expectations. I met Amina a few years ago and she has helped me get my hair back to a very healthy state and has worked with me on getting it to grow — and convinced me to try keratin as an alternative to a relaxer. She’s a very good and patient stylist who also continues her education in hair by going to classes. This is really important for me because I was looking for a stylist that stayed up on the latest and greatest hear tools, tips, trends and tricks. I highly recommend Amina Montoya.

I have been coming here for 7yrs and It is hands down the best salon I’ve ever had my hair done at. I have my hair double processed, platinum. My stylist and colorist is CK, and he is an amazing artist! He does the BEST haircuts! The assistants are always pleasant and the place is immaculate! They also have valet service which is $ 5, but very worth it since parking around there is a hassle. I have to say the prices are reasonable for what you’re getting. I haven’t tried any spa treatments, but I want to. Try this salon! You will not be disappointed!

I have mixed hair (I’m Puerto Rican & Black) so I’m always a little nervous when it comes to going to salon for anything other than a hair cut. I’m always told go to a Dominican salon when I want it straightened. Which is what I’ve done in the past whenever I wanted to get my hair done but sitting under a dryer for hours and then having to endure my hair being pulled was no fun after a while no matter how sleek the end result was. A friend of mine recommended Amina Montoya to me last year when she worked at another salon and she has been my go to stylist ever since whenever I need a hair cut, blow out, or just a funky updo for an event. I was sad when I called the salon Amina previously worked at and was told she left. My friend wasn’t even too sure where she went. It was a sad moment for me and I envisioned rollers and hair dryers in my future once again. But…
I FOUND HER! Or rather SHE found ME. Salon 5 is awesome awesome awesome. Not only do they treat their clients like gold but they show true appreciation for their stylist as well. I received an email as well as a voice mail from the salon letting me know that Amina Montoya has joined their team and to call to make an appointment. You better believe I did. I actually made a 2^nd appt while making my first appt just to ensure I got my girl back. And I couldn’t be happier. Amina truly can do anything and I love her imagination & precision when it comes to hair cuts. I wanted something different last year but wasn’t sure what since I know once you wash your hair and try to come close to that salon look it never happens. She told me she would give me a cut that was easy to maintain even on my own. She literally transformed me in a matter of 2 hours with just a pair of scissors and a flat iron.
It doesn’t matter what texture, length, or condition your hair is in, Amina will have you walking out the salon like you walked out of a Pantene commercial.
I’ll be seeing her again next week and I hope this review encourages others to call and ask for her as well.

I’m very particular about my hair. This is no joke. I’ve sat in chairs of stylists who specialize in Asian hair, who has more than 30+ years of experience, who cost an arm and a leg, who I only spent $ 20 on, and so forth. And for the past 6+ years (holy shit, has it really been that long?) I’ve only trusted Amina to cut and style me.
Though most people look for hair stylists who can cut, style, color, and listen as you pour your life out to them… it comforts me that she specializes in cutting and styling (and yes, the listening as you pour your life out thing, too).
Her years of experience is truly represented through her technique and close attention to detail, and let’s not forget the whole listening part – she really takes the time to know what you want and gives you her input on how it would work or not work on you. She’s been with me through my hair transitions from medium-​length hair to long hair with long layers to now, short hair (by far my favorite). Even if I don’t feel comfortable with something, I can approach her and she only responds in the most professional and understanding way to give me the exact cut/​style I want.
I recommend her to all of my friends, even family members, and now, I recommend her to all those who rely on Unilocal in search of a great hair stylist.
This girl knows what she’s doing.

Loved the entire experience at 5 Salon. CK gave me a beautiful, but low-​maintenance cut. The best I’ve had yet. Great, friendly staff as well.

The first time I came here, I asked for CK (based on the first review below). I told him I needed a change and to feel free to do whatever he wanted. He decided to go for a bob — long in front, short in back. Almost everyone working in the salon stopped by at some point and complimented the haircut, and even the owner — he was very impressed! After my haircut, I got so many compliments from friends and co-​workers too. CK is a master of the bob & trendy/​modern haircuts, and I’ve gone back many many times to get my haircut with him.
The salon is really nice & accommodating — I’ve run late and they put me with another hair stylist (who gave her own version of the bob with a much shorter layers in the back which I ended up really liking). They have valet parking — a plus in such a busy area as Fort Lee. The mailing list is really nice because they offer deals every week — more on the spa side than the salon side, but I’ve gottten the «bring a friend and get 50% off» deal. They serve you a drink and have bagels & grapes while you’re waiting for your stylist.
The only thing I’d watch out for is that while the stylists here give an amazing haircut that looks perfect trendy, they don’t seem to consider as much how a haircut will grow out. I think this is as important because otherwise your haircut only looks perfect for about a month, so I’ve had to go every couple/​few months to get another $ 80 haircut (a little pricey but obviously I feel CK is worth it as I keep coming back). As someone who’s had long hair her whole life until this bob and who has gone as long as 6 months without a haircut, this took some getting used to.
POSITIVES:
— Amazing haircuts, trendy. I like their products too (Kerastase).
— Excellent service.
— Good deals on their mailing list (and I’ve gotten free promotions along with my haircut — e.g. getting my makeup done for free by their new makeup artist).
NEGATIVES:
— The stylists don’t consider how a haircut will grow out as much as they could. My haircuts are absolutely perfect for about a month before it starts growing out and doesn’t look quite the same anymore.
— A little pricey — CK is $ 80/​cut. But it’s still worth it in my book.
