Worthington Guest House

First time here and it was great! All the staff were super friendly and helpful. The pools and jacuzzis are wonderful! It was nice to have three different areas to layout in the sun, some had nudity some didn’t so I had my choice. Lots of mature gentleman and just a handful of young dudes.
The location is great and near other gay resorts which is a plus. Beach and restaurants in walking distance.
Great place for me to unwind after have a crazy weekend in Miami much more chill.
Some minor details that could be improved, online booking is a bit clunky, not so modern furniture in room, jacuzzi could have been warmer.

Worthington is a gay guest house with a clothing optional pool area. Because of that and the fact that every time I attempted to take a picture, a nude showed up in my frame, I didn’t take many pictures. But don’t let that bother you, as most would be anything but candy to your eyes.
As with most gay guesthouses, the fun and enjoyment you have pretty much depends not so much upon the guesthouse itself but more upon what you consider to be fun and enjoyment, what you are looking for and the other patrons which presents a constantly changing group resulting in what is most often a constantly changing atmosphere.
As gay guesthouses go, the Worthington is a pretty good one. It’s located within a couple blocks from Lauderdale Beach and a rather short distance from Sebastian, the gay beach. It has a very nice pool, sunning and social area fenced in with plenty of tropical trees and shrubs. The attendants are friendly and though they offer day passes, remain on the alert to spot anyone who doesn’t belong or shouldn’t be there.
The place is kept spotlessly clean but the rooms are beginning to show some age with the furnishings and décor best described as basic or Spartan. Not much.
They offer a continental type of breakfast and have an outdoor patio bar set up for guests on weekends. It’s WiFi equipped but the WiFi really lacks in speed. You find out more about that by reading the review of Unilocaler Chaz A., who I consider to be the ultimate Geek of Geekdom.

Full disclosure: we did NOT stay at this hotel! However, we bought a day pass for a Sunday and spent several hours there, ate lunch, used facilities, chatted with many guests, and viewed 5 rooms throughout the complex.
Worthington is part of a 3-​hotel guest house complex that includes the Alcazar and Villa Venice resorts. They are all clothing-​optional, all-​male, gay guesthouses. They are interconnected with paths and guests have use of all three properties’ facilities. An enriched Continental breakfast is free for guests. There is a small café on the premises open for lunch; 3 pools, 2 hot tubs. The pool at Worthington is lushly gardened with many shaded and sunny spots – great for sun-​o-​philes and –phobes! Pools at connected guesthouses were a bit quieter and more spartan. Guests were a nice mix of men mostly in their 30s-​60s; a few younger men on day passes. The property is two blocks off FLL beach and a couple more blocks south to Sebastian Beach (the gay beach).
There are several (mostly resort hotel) restaurants nearby; a couple unaffiliated with hotels. It’s a 10 minute walk (north or south) on the beach to many other, very touristy restaurants, shops, etc. Small liquor and grocery stores are not within walking distance. Über/​taxis allow treks to Wilton Manors and other, more affordable dining options. Hotel offers limited free parking – it’s a toss up as to whether renting a care is easier/​cheaper than Über/​taxis but a car will give you more freedom to escape the tourist zone along FLL beach. TIP: cruise ships arrive/​depart on both Sat and Sun – Über/​taxis are hard to come by on those days!
During a long weekend to FLL we stayed nearby and toured 2 other all-​male/​gay guesthouses similar to the Worthington. We saw rooms at all three Worthington/​Alcazar/​Villa Venice properties. They were HANDS DOWN the nicest, cleanest, and most beautifully decorated and appointed rooms we saw. Firm beds, updated baths, flooring, furnishings, clean/​sparkling pools, very friendly staff. Beautiful gym with nice range of cardio and weights (large for this size property). Free happy hour cocktails on Saturday with tips benefiting local AIDS charity. While hanky-​panky among the guests seemed more discreet here compared to some other nearby gay guesthouses, according to guests we spoke with, after dark the pools and hot tubs can be the scene of lots of ‘fun’ (for those inclined). But it sounded like more serious action occurred back in guests’ rooms, not in public areas. It also seemed like there were many quieter rooms/​areas of the property – call and ask the staff for a specific room or building recommendation if you want to be further away from any pool music or ‘action.‘
We are already planning our 2017 winter vacation at the Worthington/​Alcazar/​Villa Venice complex!

I love the layout of the rooms, the three pools, two hot tubs and the tons of staff to ensure your stay is pleasant; however,
1) There is no working space (desk/​chair) in the room
2) There are very nearly no power outlets on the decks/​patios
3) Breakfast is nearly all carbs and sugars
4) WiFi speed is the worst! Good thing I have a portable 3G hotspot!
I get it, this is a place for relaxing and to get away from work — but some of us have to work during our vacation and the lack of reliable WiFi, power outlets in common spaces and no desk to put your computer on in your room means that you’ll either be:
1) Isolated to the abandoned deck between the backs of the buildings where no one goes, but there is a table an power outlets.
2) Working hunched over on your bed or using your dresser as a desk with a rattan chair to sit in (not very comfortable after an hour of meetings), or
3) Running on battery and running back to your room to recharge often.
Note: If you’re diabetic, you’ll need to bring your own foods for breakfast.

What a great resort! I can’t wait to come back and spend more time here. I was recently at the Worthington for 4 days prior to my Atlantis cruise. I almost felt like I could have just stayed here for a whole week, and just bagged the cruise! Well, I’m glad I went on the cruise but I really did have a great time at the Worthington. If you have never stayed at a resort in Fort Lauderdale, this is the one for you and the only one you need to visit. I have stayed at some others and they don’t compare to the Worthington. I have found the staff to be very helpful and welcoming. The amenities to be fantastic, the pools and hot tubs clean and the grounds to the resort were well maintained. Again, I can’t express how satisfied I was at my four days staying here looking forward to my return visit!

The hotel posts room discounts on the Internet and then when you call about the discounts they say that they are not in effect. When you call out the manager on it, he places you on a do not rent list. Poor business practices.

This is the best resort in Ft. Lauderdale in my book. I travel to South Florida several times a year and stay here every time I’m not at my family’s place in Boca. I wouldn’t consider any other resort in the area. I’ve been visiting the Worthington for years and remember it in its infancy when it was just the Worthington Guesthouse. It was fabulous then, but has now expanded to include two other properties — the Alcazar Resort and the Villa Venice Resort. All three have their own separate personalities and pool areas and are tied together so guests have easy access to each. The original Worthington has the largest pool and hot tub area and is usually the busiest — the place to see and be seen. It is the venue for the weekend happy hour and is usually pretty active at night around the pool and hot tub. It is also where the office is located and morning continental breakfast is served. The rooms are well appointed on the Worthington side, but it can be a bit noisy with all of the activity in the courtyard and pool area. The Villa Venice side is the newest and plushest. The pool and hot tub on that side is very nice, a little quieter than the Worthington. A continental breakfast is served on the Venice Villa side as well. The Alcazar side is my favorite. It is mid-​century design with a smaller pool, but does not have a hot tub, and it has a smaller courtyard area. I prefer the Alcazar side because it is less trafficked, and although I have full access to the pools and hot tubs of the Worthington and Villa Venice, I can get away from them when I’m feeling antisocial. The gym is also on the Alcazar side — it isn’t much but has the basic equipment to keep your body from atrophying during your vacation. If you’re visiting the area and considering your resort options, definitely consider the Worthington/​Alcazar/​Villa Venice.

The Worthington is a great resort where great and business oriented employees work. We have been there twice, and it was always a good experience overall.
My problem lays on their cleanliness. The two times we were over I couldn’t help but to notice my black foot prints on the white bed sheets whenever I would walk bare feet on their room floors. I actually grabbed a white, clean towel and used it as a mop on the room floors. Believe me, the towel came out black!
Since this is a clothing optional resort, I expect cleanliness to be a top priority, and that really disappointed me.
Also, the older morning employee whom seems to be the manager always had a witty, and at the same time, snippy comment to make. That kind of bothered me as well.
Again, this is a great place to enjoy the sun, the pool, their hot patrons and yourselves overall, as long as you don’t care for cleanliness.

Can’t say anything bad about this place! My partner and I had our first visit this Memorial Day weekend. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, and made themselves available if we had any questions or concerns. Our room was spotless and very comfortable. Loved that AC was very cold! All three pools and both hot tubs were clean and at the perfect temperature.
I will say that the vending machine by the office ate my dollar, which kind of sucked. The guy working that night fixed that right away and I got my beverage.
I’m already planning our next visit out there for Memorial Day weekend, and hopefully sooner!

This hotel is located 2 blocks from the ocean front. There seemed to be plenty of parking at the hotel. Staff are very friendly and within the 3 hotels, each complex had a hot tub and pool. (No hot tub at Acazar) but I think you are paying for the outside environment being a gay resort. Breakfast is American continental style. The room was very basic and could do with some modernisation work doing to it, as it looked very tired and old fashioned and the door had a gap round if. You do get a safe in the room and some toiletries, but if I returned I would only stay at the Worthington itself.

Fab gay guesthouse in Fort Lauderdale. Rooms are clean and air conditioned. Comfy beds, wifi and continental breakfast alongside lovely pools and hot tubs.
This is my second time here. In a great neighbourhood just a few blocks from the sea front.

This is a nice place to stay if you are a gay man comfortable with nudity around the pool. It’s very clean and well run, and the grounds are pleasant and it’s nice to be able to visit 3 different pool areas and gardens with the 3 properties they have now combined. It is a couple of blocks from the beach. I inadvertantly left my keys behind and they retrieved them for me and arranged to get them back to me.

I previously would have given The Worthington 4 stars. I have been staying at this all men’s resort for more than ten years. Something changed this year, and the change is sending this previously solid mid-​class resort in the wrong direction.
Good stuff: location, pool areas, most staff.
Areas for improvement in light of recent declines: cleanliness, décor, general attention to detail.
The rooms are starting to show their age. Furniture and mattresses need updating and coordinating. Cleaning deep into corners is needed, e.g., scrub those tile floors so my feet stay clean if I decide to walk barefoot. Linens especially pool towels are threadbare.
Grounds maintenance is lax — steam clean those patio bricks and stairways, replace stained lounge chairs, teach staff to clean as they go, wiping tables and other surfaces.
Test a/​c units — ours kept turning off and failed to maintain the set temperature.
Help make guests feel special and a little pampered. THE WORTHINGTON may not be PINEAPPLE POINT (which is far more expensive), but a few upgrades could help guests feel a little special.

I just got home from a three day stay and can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed it. The staff is welcoming and friendly. I arrived late on a Friday night and was given a full tour of all three resorts. My room was impeccably cleaned every day. I met a lot of great guys who were friendly and approachable. There were gorgeous (I mean gorgeous!) guys, unfit guy, nerdy guys, etc., but not one with an attitude. Everyone fit in and mixed. The age range was exceptional. The happy hour on Saturday seemed to be very popular although I shy away from large groups, so I grabbed my free drink (OK 3 free drinks) and headed over to Villa Venice where there was a much smaller crowd. I loved the fact that there was always someplace I wanted to be. If I wanted to be social there was always one of the resorts that was jumping, if I wanted something quieter I was ten seconds from another that was calmer. For those concerned about the clothing optional aspect, you will feel very comfortable wearing a suit. It’s very mixed that way. I’m already checking airfares now for January when I know I will want some sun and fun, I highly recommend this place!

Beautiful place to stay and have fun.
It was our first time to stay in a gay hotel and this resort definitely left a positive impression on us.
The facility is huge with 3 pools and 2 jacuzzis, all with loungers in the sun and shade.
The rooms are clean and spacious. I especially like that there aren’t carpenters on the floors as in so many other hotels.
The personnel is very nice and helpful.

This resort changed our mindset of gay hotels being filthy for sure and we’ll stay at gay places in the future more often.

This was my second stay at the Worthington complex. Both were amazing stays. The place is immaculately clean throughout and the staff couldn’t be nicer. Everyone incredibly friendly and helpful. I stayed at the Worthington last year and Alcazar this visit; both rooms were spotless and the AC’s worked perfectly. Nearly all the cliental were 50’s ish, and all were welcoming and friendly. The gym surprisingly had all the basic equipment one could want for a workout. Its location 15 min walk to the «gay» beach was a plus.

This property continues to get better. Two years ago they added a new property, Villa Venice, and it is a most welcome addition. Suites with kitchens and marble bathrooms, lush vegetation, and more parking. The original Worthington property is still there, as Old-​World charming as ever, evoking a bit of Spanish tile and architecture. The Alcazar property is the most mellow and quiet (even though the complex’s gym is located there). This year, our first trip as a fully married couple, we sort of celebrated our honeymoon and found it both congenial and even more likable. Something for most all tastes.
The owner has taken great pains to update the property with modern amenities and train the staff in customer service, way more than most other competing resorts. The staff here is congenial, sensitive to guests, and eager to please. All the more reason why if you want to come here, make your reservations early, perhaps months in advance.
The clientele is amazing, with people from a generally upscale, cosmopolitan lineage. A mix of Europeans, South Americans, and US folks. Probably 30−40% were from overseas.
There are two continental breakfast areas, one at the Worthington and one more at the Venice, with everything from oatmeal to pastries, fruits and of course plenty of coffee.
The rooms we have stayed in, have invariably contained both air conditioners AND dehumidifiers, which in the Florida Spring are must items to run continuously to ensure the non-​proliferation of mold. One of our new friends was complaining about a moldy smell in his room and when we queried him, he stated that he turns off the AC and the humidifier to get fresh air in. Hello!!! This is Florida! The only way to prevent mold is to ensure a dry room.
Between the staff, management, clientele and facilities, best LBT place in sunny Ft Lauderdale.

Love the Worthington, staff was great, friendly and helpful… resort was spotless, and just a great get away, close to the beach and shops/restaurants…best place in Fort Lauderdale for us boys to stay :)

We had a fab time here. Previously stayed at a similar gay guesthouse nearby but this was much more lively & fun. Top three reasons we liked it are:
1. Variety & friendliness of guests — we met guys from all over the world, wide age range, some couples like us and some singles.
2. Size of complex — the place has 3 big pools & two very busy hot tubs.
3. Though only a simple continental breakfast, it was nice to be able to get something healthy without leaving the courtyard so the sunning & fun could start!
We had a nice, clean room that staff worked very hard to keep comfortable for us. A couple of drawbacks:
1. Beginning of a mold smell in the room; not really bad but annoying
2. Pools & hot tubs weren’t always skimmed & clean early in the day.
All in all, you will have fun here!

Amazing time! We had great service! The continental breakfast was appropriate and just big enough. The atmosphere was very mixed crown when we were there 4÷6−4÷10. We stayed in Villas, which is the newer updated property, which was great. We did have a major problem in the room, which was quickly fixed, and taken care in customer service recovery. We had plastic cups in the pool which looked like glass. It freaked one of the workers out… he went a little nuts, until he discovered it was plastic.
Saturday afternoon, they have a guest get together with wine and cheese and other libations. Very nice… it was a great way to meet people.
I can’t think of any reasons why they do not deserve all five stars!

Not a bad place at all, but it depends what you are looking for in a Guest House.
The nice thing about this place is the social atmosphere. I have stayed at the Worthington three times, and each time I have met some really nice people whom I have kept in touch with. They have quite the happy hour on the weekends: lots of people show up by the pool for an hour of free drinks, most from the guest house, some are locals.
The rooms with kitchenettes are nice. If you have a car you can roll over to the Whole Foods and stock up for your stay. Some of the newly renovated rooms have fantastic showers. You could throw a party in one if that is your thing.
On the down side, it can get a bit loud. The music playing is a bit too «clubby» for my tastes, and some of the guests can get a bit noisy at night. The hot tub and the pool could be maintained a bit better.
Overall, if you are looking to meet new people and socialize, this is probably a good choice for you.

The Worthington and their staff do an incredible job at creating a very open and very friendly atmosphere to relax and meet some fantastic people from all over. My partner and I had a great time hanging out and seldom left the grounds.
Room 226 has a perfect view of the pool and hot tub. Vending and ice machine was just down a flight of stairs. The king mattress was comfortably firm and pillows were overflowing.
The window AC unit was quick to cool the Florida heat and the mini fridge was large enough to store a large pizza box with room left over for mixers and booze.
I am glad the owners kept the hardwood floors. It added to the charm of the unit unlike the overly tiled guesthouses we have been to before.
Service on the rooms to replace towels and tidy up was quick and usually happened while we were down enjoying breakfast and sharing gossip from the night before.
Both pools had plenty of chairs for lounging poolside and Sebastian Beach is within walking distance. A heavy rain storm kept us in one afternoon, but a quick call for take out made for a friendly indoor gathering.
It’s easy to see why all the rooms were filled. A+ guys! We look forward to our next trip back.

I recently stayed at the Worthington with a friend of mine. We’ve been to Ft. Lauderdale several times over the last two years and have always stayed at the W hotel (which is amazing). This time (due to budgetary reasons) we chose to stay here. Overall, the experience was a good one. The clientele runs the gamut from older men (with their much younger Asian boyfriends) to normal 30-​somethings. The front desk/​management is incredibly friendly and the complimentary continental breakfast is a nice touch (coffee, bagels, muffins, cereal, fruit). I found it a little odd that our front desk attendant felt the need to walk us through the entire catalog of adult movies available for rent… but perhaps he thought that he was being «helpful». Aside from that odd exchange, most of our experiences here were great.
We stayed at the Alcazar section of the resort, which is connected to the main house by a short walkway. If this is the only room available, don’t hesitate to book it. I found it nice to be away from the main pool/​hot tub area.
The room had a small kitchenette and was much larger than I expected it to be. The mattresses need some updating and were a far cry from the «heavenly beds» offered down the street at the W. Other than that, i found the accommodations to be satisfactory.
clothing optional?
I’d say that 30% of the clients chose to be naked around the pool. I found those who participated weren’t being «overt» or «suggestive». Rather, they were simply guys who enjoyed the freedom that a resort such as this offers. The hot tub at the main pool (the only hot tub on the property) seats 6 comfortably and is the main gathering area.
Almost all of the guests thatI met at the Worthington were friendly, outgoing, and social. For the money, the property is a great value. I would definitely return.
