Kaplan University Online Programs

Worst experience ever. I would put negative stars if I could. I paid over $ 4000 to take two online courses. My advisor never enrolled me. It is like the stole my money. I have been requesting over and over to get a refund and I can’t get anyone to help me. I will be contacting an attorney shortly.

Funds collected from the military or from the Student Loans to cover the cost of tuition are reimbursed to both parties, if the student never begins classes. I love Kaplan University, the pace is great for me as a working adult with a family. The live seminars allow we as students to interact with our fellow students and our professors on a weekly basis. I think it is important when you speak to the Admissions Dept to give them full information about your previous schooling, especially an overseas high school diploma. By the way request for a high school transcript comes from The Dept of Ed, not the college.

Don’t waist ur time with this school, they charged me with out my permission, took out false loans under my name and now I pay the price! Management in there Financial aid department is worthless, I even have emails from my old teachers talking about how bad the school is. Save your time, money and sanity, go somewhere else!

It is disheartening to read the negative reviews on Kaplan University. I have been in the administrative field for 15 years and an Office Manager for 4. My employer offers tuition reimbursement so I decided on Kaplan for my associate of science in business administration, in order to compliment my experience. I loved this school. For the most part my teachers were really encouraging, knowledgeable and they worked with and for their students. My counselor, Jose Raya, checked up on me monthly to give me the opportunity to voice any concerns and to congratulate me on my grades.
This was the perfect fit for me, being a mother and working full-​time. It takes discipline and determination, but most schools do. I can’t say enough great things about Kaplan. I graduated in November, 2014 and I’m taking a little break before starting the bachelors program. Having a degree really does wonders for ones self-​esteem. I am more confident about sharing my knowledge and I feel much smarter than I did prior to this program. It is a great personal accomplishment in life.
I highly recommend Kaplan University.

I went to Kaplan for 2 terms. Worst school ever. I went with them over University of Phoenix since they were less expensive. Well, you get what you pay for. I explained to them I had tuition reimbursement at work and I asked them for 2 months to send me a bill so I could get reimbursed. It was so hard to get that bill, yet they had someone calling me constantly asking me to pay up. Not only that, but I repeatedly asked for a program evaluation that I could use as a rodamap to keep my eye on the finish line. I never got that… it felt like they just wanted me to take classes forever! I don’t know if they still do this, but also you were required to be online at a certain time to view a lecture. That was inconvenient. There are much better schools where I feel like they care more and do right by their students.

I wish I could give this place no stars.
I recently requested to be on one of the their gpa related clubs with the student life section and they said no. The invites are only given twice a year.
I am currently asking why is that? Why do they give out invites like a traditional school when they have a no-​traditional class schedule? Would that not be a plus to have one of their students listing that on a resume and helping their government imposed percentage in helping students get a job after graduation?
This place is so half ass backwards that even a person with a 3.98 gpa like myself, would tells other people to go some where else.

Dear Kaplan,
I am writing this post on your wall to let you know how dissatisfied I am with your advising department. I intially placed an application for admission to your website on 5 April 2014. I was assigned to your Senior Military Advisor Jacqueline Mure. I went through your application proccess. In my application, I indicated that I had attended High School Overseas. During my past eight weeks of working with your advisor, I had provided everything my advisor had requested of me.
I have been out of the education system for 5 years, due to my hectic military committments. I now have reached a point in my life where I want to pursue higher education, and was advised by many to look at Kaplan.
I made every effort to meet the University’s requirements, I was unable to get enrolled twice because I had not fulfilled my requirements of the Navy to be approved for Tuition Assistance. I finally met all my requirements with the Navy and I was motivated to start classes at the earliest possible but your advising team has crushed my dream of starting school on 11 June 2014.
My advisor overlooking the BASIC requirement of an overseas transcript for high school is unacceptable. Your advisor made no attempt to correct her oversight of this major problem. I have no problem requesting this from my highschool at all, but the fact that you advisor has hinted to me that I may not be allowed to start class on 11 June 2014 is unsatisfactory.
My advisor provided me with a Course Description Letter and a Degree plan, and told me to give this to the U.S. Navy to be approved for Tuition Assistance. I took your course advisor’s advice with face value, seeing that she is a representative of your University and her title reads Senior Military Advisor. Your advisor indicated to me that she has been working at your University for seven years, but the fact that she overlooked a need for high school transcripts for eligibility for enrollment makes me wonder how great she is at doing her job.
I and the United States Navy took your advisor’s word, documentation and advice to be approved for Tuition Assistance. Your advisor gave me rogue information, which has now placed my eligibility to start classes on time in JEOPARDY. In addition, with federal spending being looked at closely, and the uncertantity of Tuition Assistance availability in the future, your advisor mistake has costed the Navy $ 1, 650.
Tuition Assistance is not monopoly money. It is tax payers dollars that are going toward offering me the benefit to pursue my education. I am very disastisfied at Kaplan’s advising team. I hope you can come to a solution to my problem. Thank you.
UPDATE: i am launching a full arsenal against KAPLAN. It is 11 June 2014 the Navy has paid you Tuition Assistance but you are not allowing me into school. I have complained to the President of Kaplan, got a response by the Student Advisors apologizing and stating that the advisor made a mistake. But made no attempt to remedy my problem. I have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau, and the DOD Post Secondary School Complaint System. Now I will just sit back with my hands behind my head and wait. You can answer to the Government as to why you think it is acceptable that your advisors make students believe they are enrolled for school and secure money from the United States Navy and then refuse to allow them to pursue school after the Tuition Assistance Voucher has been paid. This is FRAUD.
UPDATE: Recieved a response from Kaplan University regarding their oversight of my transcripts throgh my BBB complaint. Kaplan refused to enter me into school and claimed that no tuition assistance voucher has been recieved. I rebutted back to Kaplan University debunking their story of Tuition Assistance voucher, making them aware that I have one. On 26 June 2014, Kaplan University still refuses to enter me into school. They offered zero help and could care less about me. This is how they treat their military. GREAT JOB! I will ensure that I discourage all of my junior Sailors to attend this University. If this is how you treat me, my Sailors have better choices. Respectfully submitted: HMC (FMF) Active USN.

In my experience, this is what you’ll get when you choose Kaplan:
1. Admission counselors who suddenly no longer respond to emails or phone call questions after they receive your money.
2. Professors who teach so poorly that they have already been dismissed by other institutions.
3. Professors who threaten to ban you from class for informing them that the webinar slides are too small to read.
4. Registrars who call you racist because you ask to change classrooms when your professor has such a thick accent that no one can understand a word uttered (and when classes are all audio, that’s a big issue).
5. Pubic relations personnel who say they are concerned with your bad experience and schedule a time to talk but then are mysteriously unavailable.
6. 400 level classes that are so elementary that one could take the final on day one and pass.
7. Zero support from any department but financial aid. (After all, they want your money to continue to flow unhindered).
Why am I ranting? Because I paid this school a great deal of money for a promised quality education. Instead I am thrown a joke of an overly expensive diploma mill and my concerns ignored. Months of attempts to talk to someone –anyone — at Kaplan via multiple mediums about my horrid educational experience have gone unanswered. One would hope that they would at least want to prevent future students from repeating my experience, but no. Silence.
My next step is reporting these (and many more) ridiculous educational experiences to Kaplan’s accreditation firm.

Academically, you get what you put in. I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing, having already been an RN with my Associate in Nursing degree. For the most part, you are expected to be an adult and get your work done on time, and not expect any hand holding. The statistics course I took was very black or white, you either knew the material or you didn’t. There was no «skating» in this class. However, I could see how others could skate in some my theory type classes. I am one who wants my money’s worth, so I did all the reading and assignments, and got good grades. However, there were some times when others would join our mandatory online meeting sessions having not read any material and clearly there just to put in their attendance, but offer nothing else. Almost every teacher I had was excellent, knowledgeable in their areas, and offered extra help if needed by online chat, email, or even telephone conversation. Again, academically, I worked very hard, and feel I earned every bit of my degree. As far as the billing/​fin aid department, it was a nightmare. I documented over 30 telephone conversations and 20+ emails over various mistakes, or problems with my account. Considering I paid my own money (no financial aid), I think that is ridiculous there were so many problems. Unfortunately, billing area is call center based, so you there is no telling who you will get every time you call, and it seems, anybody was getting into my account and changing things around. One day things would be all figured out and great with my account, and a few days later, I was getting a notice that I suddenly owed them hundreds of dollars. This happened many times. Some times, I could not understand the person in the call center, and actually asked to speak to someone else because their foreign accent was so strong. Very frustrating. Many emails went unanswered by my supposed «account worker». I have gone on to get my Masters in Nursing and am going to a local brick/​mortar school. I am glad I got my BSN from Kaplan, as the online program was necessary for me and I feel academically, it was great; however, I would not get my Masters because I do not want to deal with their nonstop billing issues for a cash payer!

As a whole, I had a great experience and graduated at the top of my class. Throughout my 3 years (yes, I did a 4 yr. degree in 3), I only ran into 1 professional (yes she taught sociology) who allowed her politics to interfere with her grading. Annoying as she was, the department Dean got it sorted in short order. The hours are convenient and their billing works with the VA (GI Bill /​Voc. Rehab) to ensure that Veterans get everything they need to succeed.
I don’t know if I’d pay these prices as a «regular joe» but speaking as a disabled Veteran who can’t carry a backpack across a campus multiple times a day, the Kaplan experience was exactly what I needed.

Online College.
Hmmm — after speaking to them regarding changing from one online university to theirs, I notice a few things.
For one, they are a hard sell. They will call and email the living daylights out of you to get you to sign up. Secondly, they claim that their course credits are cheaper — particularly when compared to the place I am going to now. However, when you do the actual math, you will find that while I am paying a higher amount for 3 credit classes, their lower cost is offset by the same class being 5 credits– so it actually works out the same or more even!
I’d say check these guys really well before you decide to plunk down any coin.
